“Nice interior decor with atmosphere and outside patio area. Food only average, small portions and above average price.”

“It was a pleasant late evening meal on my birthday until I presented for partial payment a "San Diego 100 restaurant" card I had received as a gift and the trouble began. Not true. She brought out the large bartender as protection and refused to accept the card as $50 toward the bill. I finally left two $20s with her and we agreed I would return to settle the bill with the owner. When I returned, an owner (a short surly man) didn't want to discuss the matter of change for what I had left. He threatened to call the police if I didn't leave. I didn't leave. Then he wanted to know how much I wanted to leave as a gratuity. I told him that was none of his business. He kept arguing (the amount of gratuity rapidly diminished in my mind). Finally he got my change from his office and gave it to me. He told me never to come back. A woman stepped up from the side and said she was an owner and could we discuss the matter at a quiet sidewalk table. We did and I explained to her just what had happened on the evening of our dining there. The male owner had been busy taking care of some customers but he came out and insisted on breaking up the conversation, refusing to go back inside until the lady I was talking with went with him. Obviously she was not an owner of much standing. Strange how a small thing can ruin our memory of a pleasant meal.”

“Ate there a few months ago, food tasted like it was old and dried out. Went there tonight and was served a meal with a cooked cockroach/water bug type Beatles in with the food. With all the dangers of cheap seafood coming from china, I say please people think twice about eating at this establishment for your and your family's sake.”

“Akita has great food. Sushi, sashimi, and cooked dishes. My personal favorite is the ginger beef. If you want a really cool experience, they have a little room in the back of the restaurant with low tables and you can dine "Japanese style". Leave your shoes at the steps, take a seat on the (actually quite comfortable) cushions on the floor, and enjoy! The staff is very friendly and helpful. I've never had an unknowable dinner at this restaurant.”

“One of my favorite restaurants around! I have never had a bad experience, always served great hot food!! Also a favorite restaurant of my moms and aunt. Great for a nice date or even a quiet evening with the family!! Don't knock it till you try it! ”

“To start off - as we walk in it's unclear whether we are supposed to seat ourselves or be led to a table. It was relatively slow and people were waiting yet clearing off empty/dirty tables seemed to be low on the waitresses priorities. Our waitress seemed downright mean - never once did she smile or ask how our food was or refill our empty water glasses. When we finished she walked by and looked at us at least a few times but didn't clear our table or bring a bill - I had to go to the counter to ask for the bill. The Men's Restroom is basically IN THE KITCHEN. Doesn't seem sanitary if you ask me. If the bad service were an isolated incident that would be one thing - but, I been to this restaurant more than a few times (last time was the last for me) and the bad service and bad attitudes of the waitresses seem to be the norm.”

“Went to the Downey Restaurant when it was first opened (since closed) - had to track them down in Escondido to get my fix. The relaxed, nautical atmosphere is funky and fun; the staff is attentive and friendly. But it's the food that's the draw - you can feed two people until they are generously stuffed full of crab, shrimp, corn, potatoes, sausage links, beer and great sourdough bread for under $50 - a great deal for seafood of this quality. Like Eastern Crab shacks, they toss it on the table in front of you, no pretensions of elegance here. The spice mix is just right, and the freshness is undeniable. A great little restaurant in a weird location - definitely worth hunting for!”

“My wifes food came out cold they claim to be Sicilian restaurant but the taste was no where near it, it may be under new management it shows they try to give you something if things go wrong they offered us a certificate but after the bad experience do we really want to come back.”

“Although it may seem somewhat romantic once you get passed the cheap table ware and hideous looking out of style design it's not the worst place. The service takes way to long and if you like watery food by all means go ahead and enjoy your watered pasta. They may seem what they know and the food taste isn't the worst but it's no Olive Garden .”

“This is not an Italian restaurant. It's roots are in French cuisine. The sauces are incredible. The owner/chef is from France. Well worth repeat dining.”
