Does Wrld Fmous Steaks Tamales
Sep 4, 2006 by Greg from Olive Branch, MS

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • The waters edge location is fabulous for a romantic dinner.
  • Steak had excellent flavor but chewed like a dog's toy.

“I have never been more disappointed in a restaurant!! I had always loved Doe's in Greenville, MS. I moved away from Greenville nearly 18 years ago and sadly had not been to Doe's since. We arrived at 6:30 to a less than friendly greeting from a hostess who might have been 18 and not interested in working on a Sunday, the day before Labor Day. We were seated within 10 minutes outside on the dock at water's edge. This would have been a perfect spot for me and my wife, but we also had our five year old daughter and two year old son with us. When I asked to be seated anywhere else but water's edge, you would have thought I told the hostess I had just keyed her car out front. We were told this was the only available table, but if we wanted to go back up front and wait they would see what they could do. I visited the men's room and counted 17 open tables scattered throughout the inside of the building at this point. My wife said in my absence they seated two walk up tables of younger people, appearing to be peers of the hostess, with no reservations. 6:55 we were seated at an inside table with two very hungry children. My wife overheard the apology from our waitress to the table directly behind us regarding the delay in there receiving there dinner. Apparently over an hour and a half, and 5 reminders from the waitress to the cook staff is what it took to get these folks some food. My wife wanted to leave at that point, but I assured her it was worth the wait. The kids devoured a basket full of saltine crackers that were sitting on the table while we waited on a server to take our drink order. 7:05 our waitress takes our drink order, but our request for cranberry juice for the kids can't be fulfilled because that is served at the bar, and she can not do this. Our only option given was from a soda fountain, and we don't let our kids drink colas. They settled for water my wife a tea and I ordered a Michelob Ultra. 7:10 Water and tea show up, waitress says she will be right back with beer. I stopped her long enough to place an appetizer order and our entry order. I of course ordered steak and my wife being the tamale fan she is ordered tamales, and the kids ordered shrimp. 7:15 Beer shows up, not cold but not hot. I went a head and ordered a second beer for when the appetizer platter showed up. 7:30 Appetizer shows up, it's called the sampler platter. Some cajun crayfish, onion rings and fried pickle spears. Crayfish was excellent although not plentiful, 4 pickle spears, and 4 small onion rings. A little disappointed in the appetizer but we got through it. 7:45 Appetizer platter having long been gone, my beer shows up, this time there was little if any coldness to it. My waitress said they have been going through Michelob Ultra so fast that can't keep it cold. Who am I to question her, but I never realized Ultra was so popular among the masses. She did however offer me a cold mug, but when the cold mug arrived at my table it was no longer deserving of the name "cold mug." 7:50 Our entries show up, the wait is over and I am excited. I will admit the conversations around us regarding the experiences of several different diners had me a little spooked and at this point my wife visibly upset with me. We got the kids straight and I bit into my first Doe's steak in nearly 20 years, and I have to say the flavor was there! Then the chewing began. I tried to mask it from my wife at this point; I knew it would be a long night of I told you son's. 8:15 waitress asks how everything was, and I nicely tell her how disappointing our evening and meal had been. I also asked her to take the salad that my wife ordered and never received off our bill. This in my wifes opinion as well as my own, was by far, the worst dining experience we had in Hot Springs and also was a huge blow to my memory of Doe's.”

Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • No chance to get bored with so many great options!
  • Lunch hour seems stressful for the harried staff.

“All made-from-scratch. Great variety of delicious foods. The tomato soup is a favorite, and their chicken salad on croissant is tops. Many choices of fresh salads. The minted lemonade is the best! Cute bistro tables provide an upscale atmosphere.”

  • Everything.
  • Nothing.

“We were there in May 2006. Very impressed with the atmosphere, nice balcony tables, great food selection. I had the white pepper seared steak with roasted potatoes and green beans. I am not sure how they seasoned the green beans, but they were superb, as was the potatoes. The steak is absolutely the best I've ever eaten. My husband had shrimp cannelloni, and was very pleased. Great service.”

Bohemia Restaurant
Jun 11, 2006 by Michele from Hooks,Tex.

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Wonderful food, always very clean, service is spectacular. You won't be disappointed.
  • The only negative thing I can think of is that I can't eat here often enough.

“I've been eating at The Bohemia since My husband introduced me to it when we were dating.18 years & three kids later it has become a family favorite for us. We now live 150 miles away but make special trips to Hot Springs every few months to eat with Adolph & Christa, the owners. The restaurant is always very clean, the service is always exceptional,& the food is always spectacular. My favorite is the Strogganoff. My husband & oldest son love the Duck. We have never had a bad meal .Be sure & try the dumplings. The salad bursts in your mouth it so crisp. The house dressing is so good. No trip to Hot Springs is complete unless you stop by the Bohemia. Adolph & Christa will make you feel so welcome.”
