“Last night, my wonderful in-laws took my husband and I to a very nice place to celebrate our anniversary. Because the area was full, we sat outside in a fountain area to wait for the 30 minutes they said we had before a table would be free. After 20 minutes, my husband went off to make sure they knew where we were. He was told it would be another 20 minutes. As we waited outside, we watched dozens of people enter the restaurant. After an hour wait they finally seated us outside! Now this might not seem like much at first you think, many restaurants have attractive outdoor seating, and so does this eatery. However, bear in mind that we live in Tucson, and this is SUMMER. We were not seated in the regular restaurant garden seating with misters, fans, or anything like that, but instead in a far off solitary section of two tables set up next to the parking lot and the indoor restrooms. We politely asked to have an inside table as soon as it became available and they said sure. By this time our Sunday best dress clothes, hairstyles, and makeup were all much the worse for waiting so long in the heat. Thirty minutes later my daughter went in to check on the status of our table and theyd given it to someone else. This was when my husband called for the manager. And before he got to the table, the entrees were served. Two of the five of us were served the wrong meal. Rocco was served the wrong sides with his meal. When we spoke with the manager, he said, oh, Im sorry, asked what side Rocco had ordered, and left. Our bill totaled over $150. There was no discount, no complimentary beverage, no dessert on the house, no coupon for return. Nothing. Are we over-reacting here or is this standard service now. This is not the first time weve had celebratory meals made memorable by bad service and a lack of care for the consumer.”

“Having visited Cafe Paraiso several times, I was always of the opinion that even though the staff was generally surly, the food was good. After my most recent visit I'm inclined to believe that something has changed, and not for the better. Our food arrived at the table quite cool, and I asked to have mine sent back to the kitchen. When it was brought back to me, it was warm enough for consumption if not piping hot. Alas, I spent the rest of the day with pretty severe dyspepsia and stabbing stomach pains, which I am certain were from my breakfast as I consumed nothing else that day. My friend and I were treated with the minimum of courtesy, and no apology made for the inconvenience of being served cold food. There are plenty of places to eat on University- avoid Cafe Paraiso and an unpleasant experience.”

“I've visited and lived in Tucson off and on. Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse is one of my all time favorite places to go and eat, relax and then enjoy trail dust town afterwards. It is a great place to take visitors to show them a glimpse of the old west along with old fashioned western hospitality. I highly recommend it.”

“A 'speakeasy' bistro hidden inside a wine shop. FYI: no longer as 3200 E. Speedway, moved across the street to 3131 E. First Street. Intimate midtown bistro. Eclectic selection of 'Little Dishes', 'Green Dishes' and 'Big Dishes' from a Seasonal Menu. 'Dish of the Day' was fresh Opah. Fantastic carrot-ginger soup with beet fritters. Near-endless wine selection, as any bottle in The RumRunner - the adjoining wine shop - can be enjoyed in The Dish for $12 over retail.”

“The owner basically ruins the place. It's in a great location and has so much potential, but he's a very negative person who drives away customers. Another note, I used a debit card to pay for a coffee and scone this morning. He told me the price, swiped my card, and crumpled up my receipt and threw it away without offering it to me at all. When I later checked my account balance, I saw that the amount charged was more than he had told me. I like to patronize local places, but not if I'm going to be insulted or cheated while I'm handing the owner money. Plus, the coffee often has grounds in it and today I bought a scone that was old and disgusting. Be careful here or, better yet, just go somewhere else.”

“Well I read the reviews left prior and glad I havent experienced those. We have been eating at sassos for a few years now. We werent really satisfied with much of anything there until very recently. They just started actually serving and their entire menu did a 360. When we inquired as to what prompted the drastic change, they told us they had new ownership. I have to say, it was just in time, we almost gave up on the old sassos. I still want to order some wine with our food, but yet again they said that was in the works. We went yesterday after a couple of weeks and noticed they have signs in the window announcing a new named restaurant. Inside they had the wall that connected them to the old ice cream shop gone! This is a great sign and my husband and I are very anxious for the re opening!”

“Wanted some good pizza, and remember getting great pizza at Sasso but since last year the business was sold to individuals who don't care or understand good service. I actually found this hard way, I called I would pick up at 1700 hours a simple pizza. Upon arrival I was told it was not done and would take 20 minutes. I waited the 20 minutes, then another 10 minutes and nothing, so I told the cashier I wanted to speak to manager she left then return and told me it would be about 1/2 hour. I was upset so I told her I would wait, When another 1/2 hour passed, and my complaint was not addressed. I went again to the cashier told her the 1/2 hour has passed and I wanted to speak to the manager, she left again then returned and told the manager was too busy and would not be able to speak to me. I was never so insulted so I cancel my order and left. I then drove down to to Papa John Pizza by Fry's and Home depot and had my pizza within 20 minutes. I will never return to this business again.”

“Good food and service, but very noisy and poorly lit (my wife couldn't even read the menu due to the poor lighting). Granted, we were there on a Saturday night, which is generally busier than most other nights, but the ergonomics of the place do not make for a romantic or even peaceful dining experience. Still, if you're looking for good Italian food, Vivace is better than most Italian restaurants in the Tucson area.”

“The place is very fancy; wait-staff wears tuxedos and is very formal. The view is spectacular and the 3-piece combo played nice music. The food is very uneven. My Venison was very good. My wife's crab cakes were so salty that she sent them back. We enjoyed the evening but the food was not up to expectations.”

“I wanted to try this restaurant before bring a group a business associates to dinner. I was less than impressed. My margarita tasted like soap was left in the glass, and my chimichanga was less than expected. The wrap of the chimi was "lightly fried", but tasted more like a puff pastry dropped in a deep fryer. For the price other Tucson Mexican restaurants would be a better choice. It does have rooms for groups, which I thought would be an asset. I won't be bringing my group here. The wait staff was okay, but nothing special.”

“I was looking forward to some authentic Mexican food while staying in Tucson. We happened to pass by El Parador and decided to give it a try. That was a huge mistake. While they have a nice family friendly atmosphere, the food is terrible. I ordered the Valentines Special which was shrimp, scallops, imitation crab and avocado wrapped in a tortilla smothered in chardonnay sauce. Sounds delicious but when it was placed in front of me I knew I was in trouble. It looked like a frozen meal fresh out of the box and had no flavor except that lingering aftertaste of cardboard that lasted for hours. I would not waste my taste buds or money on this place. .”

“Sometimes their food is great some times it's not so good, even when ordering the same item a few days later it does not always taste the same. Service is not always the best either. For example I tried to order for delivery at 4:20pm and was told driver does not get there until 5pm, I asked if I could go ahead and place order now and just deliver it after 5 and I was told no that I would have to call back to order when a delivery driver was there. However about 2 weeks ago I went in and dined and the service was excellent even with the restaurant being noticeably very busy.”

“SERVICE: The experience at Sushi Garden was inefficient, unprofessional and unacceptable. My wife and I went for our Valentines' dinner (the weekend before as usual). My wife opted for a roll while I decided to try the all you can eat menu. She received her food first and with the assurance my food would arrive promptly from the waitress she began to eat. The waitress continued to assure my food would arrive soon. A full 45 minute after my wife had finished and I had yet to get my food. The waitress explained that one chef was backed up and that she would be happy to get the manager. He apologized and went to research the problem. He came back and offered us 20% off the meal and free desert. The waitress finished off the evening by ignoring us (no water refills, no offer of second round of drinks and I had to beg her to get me a second order of all you can eat food) and charging for the complementary desert. Ugh! FOOD: The sushi was average at best with extremely small portions. There must have been a wasabi shortage as well. The mixed drinks were adequate.”

“As much as food and atmosphere is good, service is really poor. The following list is very weak points that you notice it immediately when you enter the cafe: 1-At the door when you step in, on busy days. They practically don't know what to do. They send you in for counter seat then you realize it is full, when you back you are in the end of waiting list. 2-Waitresses do not check on you during the meals. You almost do not get a chance to see them to ask for more water or coffee. You get your coffee or water when your meal is gone. 3- The only time you see their smile and their good side is at the end of the meal when the check comes and for sure they expect a fat tip.”

“For the money, you can find better steak elsewhere (Sullivan's Steakhouse in Tucson tops this restaurant hands down - no contest at all). We ordered the rib eye and it was quite disappointing. The cut didn't seem as tender and flavor as other rib eyes I have tried. Believe me when I say I know my steak (Smith & Wollensky, NY, Union Sq Grill, Seattle, among others). I'm not sure why others have rated this restaurant so high. This restaurant seems to have built it's name from the owner who started other restaurants in Tucson. But it is totally out of character to charge $35 for steak and yet be so woefully lacking in quality piece of meat. Granted the decor, service, and the wine list is exceptional. But when you are charging $35 for steak, you better bring your A-game not some chuck wagon beef on a plate. In summary, try Sullivan's. It happens to have a sister restaurant named Del Frisco's in NY that I would also recommend.”

“Ordered a pizza and soup online at 12:30pm Saturday with a pickup time of 4:30pm. Showed up at the location at 4:30pm - only customer there. Told they were very busy and it would be 15-25 minutes until the pizza would be ready. Said I couldn't wait, cancel pizza and give me the soup. Told soup not available. No apologizes, no phone call to say they were running late and out of items. Tuesday a charge for the pizza and soup appears on my AMEX. Called the location and asked for the manager/owner, put on hold. 4.5 minutes later was disconnected. Called back. Told manager was too busy to answer the phone. The only way these establishments learn is to not patronize them.”

“Food is average. Eating area is average, but separated from the bar and employees. What I really don't like is that the food servers disappear as soon as your food comes. I am a local and have been to McGraw's about 5 times and it's been the same every time. You seat yourself, which I don't mind, but it helps to show the lack of customer service. You order, get your food, and the server disappears, indefinitely. If something is wrong with your order, you have to get up and find the waitress yourself because they don't check to see how your meal is. And when you want your bill, you have to get up yourself and find someone to ring you up. That part of the customer service is absolutely ridiculous. I've given McGraw's plenty of chances and won't be going there again. So, if you decide to go to Tucson McGraw's, I hope you like having to serve yourself.”

“This is a great sushi restaurant for those who love no-frills sushi. Yes, it has a strip mall feel to it, because of the drop-tile ceiling and warehouse outlet furniture. Yes, the servers at the tables speak poor English and are generally inattentive. But the place is well kept and looks nicer than most other sushi places (or any other restaurant) in Tucson. Besides that the rolls, nigiris and cooked food are simple, well crafted and delicious. They even add a few little things like complementary miso and hot towels, like nicer places. They have an excellent sushi bar with some of the most courteous and well trained Japanese chefs I've encountered. (Try to sit in Miura San's section.) The seaweed is crisp, the fish is top quality (for Tucson), and the chefs are more than willing to share everything they can to help you. You have to try the tempura-fried Salvages roll, but save this one for last. If you want to have the romance and ambience though, you can go pay double the price at Ra or Sakura for far worse food.”

“Highly recommended to us, this was a very bad experience. Service was sloppy. I was if the staff felt they were in charge because they were wearing ridiculous prom outfits. They always seemed to know better than us. When I asked to have my empty salad plate cleared away, the waiter told me that they didn't do that while the other guest still had a plate in front of her. He said I would take it away if I insisted, I asked that he do so, and he walked away.”

“My family and I come in from Chicago to Tucson several times a year; it's a second home to us. I've never been as disappointed in a restaurant as I was in Anthony's. We were told it had excellent food, service, etc. The only good things about the visit were the complimentary after dinner beverage and the view of the lights of downtown Tucson. The food was sub-par at best, especially when you consider what you pay. All four of the dishes our family received were at least $40, and none of them worth it. My Mother had a problem with her steak, and it took them three tries to get it right. As mediocre as the food was, the service was even worse. For a fine-dining experience, the service here was probably the worst I have ever come across. Our waiter was a flat-out jerk. He appeared uninterested in us as customers and was in a real foul mood. For example, I ordered Fat Tire ale, and I had to ask for a refill. I asked our waiter once and he said he'd get it. About 10 minutes later he passed by again and I asked him to get it, and he said "Look, its coming, hold on," in a very snippy and irritated tone. I then asked a busboy if he could get it, and he said he would. They finally brought out the Fat Tire about 45 minutes after I initially asked for it, long after my meal was done. Needless to say, I sent it back. Then they had the audacity to charge me for the second beer afterwards. When I go to a meal and drop hundreds of dollars, I want top-rate service to go along with excellent food. Anthony's had neither. Avoid it like the plague.”

“Do not go to this place! I tried to book an event there for my family, did my homework, downloaded their menus off their website, etc. I scheduled an appointment with their event coordinator and was very optimistic. Aside from the fact that I couldn't get in the building because the event coordinator forgot to unlock the doors for our meeting, I quickly learned that they were trying to make a fast buck off of me. They refused to honor the prices set forth on their own menus! The coordinator kept insisting that the prices on the menus. I downloaded off of their website did not apply. When I asked why, she responded, "because they don't." she disappeared into her office and printed another set of menus with different prices (much higher, of course!) And then began to mention all these ridiculous fees that were going to be added to the already advertised "inclusive" price. So when I asked, "just what exactly does the inclusive price include?" she refused to answer and insisted that I pay the higher prices. She even brought out a calculator to 'prove' that the prices she was quoting were fair. Of course, it didn't matter that she had the calculator; the numbers still didn't add up to the prices she was quoting. She even got angry with me when I asked her to break down the prices of the services she claimed warranted the much higher price. The jungle green ceilings and multi colored walls got tiring after the first 5 minutes. Couple that with the ridiculous treatment and what a disaster! It was only when I got up to leave that she began to soften her tone and offer lower priced options. Of course, by then it was far too late. They may very well be a nice place for dinner for two and dancing, but definitely not for group events. Too money hungry and dishonest. Steer clear of this place!”

“One of the best Japanese restaurants my family and I have had the pleasure of visiting in my relatively short time in Tucson. The staff is friendly, attentive, and very helpful to "non-experts" in selecting the ideal meal. I would especially recommend the combination dinners that offer a delectable mixture of tempura, teriyaki, and appetizers, definitely intended for two or more diners. If you're dining as a couple or a family, ask for a booth: they're enclosed, providing for a more intimate setting. Shogun also scores major points for having a children's menu (I've rarely ever come across these in an Asian restaurant), that serves child-sized, but very generous portions of teriyaki beef, chicken, rice, and appetizers. The sushi and sashimi are also first-rate. A must-try experience!”

“I had the eggplant parmagiana and my husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The food was a disappointment. We were not greeted by any family members as their advertisement states. It took the wait staff 25 minutes to take our order after we were seated. Now I know why the Weekly, veritable source for restaurant reviews, lists no review of this establishment despite its claim of being in Tucson for 22 years now. It is not worthy of even a mention.”

“Wow - what can I say? Never miss a chance for dinner at Poca Cosa. I have never experienced "snooty" staff or management; in fact the owner usually speaks to us to assure the meal was up to par. Chef's choice is always the best bet for me. The coffee and flan are great endings to a wonderful meal. Don't expect tacos and burritos here though, this is upscale Mexican with a twist.”

“Ba Dar is the best Chinese restaurant in Tucson. Forget about all the other places to eat at! Their food is delicious and very satisfying. In other words, if you go there hungry, you'll be leaving trying to catch your breath because you've eaten so much. The portions that they serve are enormous. Price range is medium ($6-$8) but well worth! Their lunch specials are the greatest (sure beats the hell out of drive through Chinese takeouts), a great place to have business lunches, and a good place to have a family dinner. I was about to give up on Chinese food altogether in Tucson because every Chinese restaurant I ate at was either too salty (other restaurants use way too much salt or too expensive (I ate at another restaurant where they charged me $10 for fried rice!). Wasn't to my expectations of the reviews that were written about the restaurant (a big boo on the reviewers who ate at those restaurants). Buffet style restaurants I recommend you get their sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. Their chicken fried rice is phenomenal and their honey walnut shrimp/prawns are to die for. The service is very friendly and you don't get that from other restaurants in Tucson (at least the ones I've been to and that's a lot). As this being my first review, I wouldn't give to any other restaurant but BA-DAR Chinese Restaurant and the only reason why I don't give them a perfect 10 all the way across the board is their location. I gave them an 8 for their atmosphere because I think they can do so much better in another part of the town. And I apologize if you don't agree with my review, but coming from the Bay Area where there's Chinese restaurants on every street or street corner, there's only a select few that stick out for their food, service, and price range.”

“I have to admit, the food was pretty good, but that is almost immediately neutralized by the snooty staff and owner. I love Mexican food and had heard a lot about Cafe Poca Casa and wanted to try it. The first time I went with my whole family (daughter -8 son -6). I know that sometimes that can be inappropriate, but I went at 5:00 pm, which should still be doable. From the moment I walked in the door I could sense the unwelcome feeling. We were ushered to a table fed as quickly as possible and sent on our way. I decided to try it again without the kid factor with just my wife and myself. Once again, I felt that the staff was snooty and that I should be honored to be served by them. The hostess looked great, almost too great. She took a long time to give us any attention even though we had a reservation and nobody else was there. She seemed to find things to do throughout the restaurant to avoid helping us. Once again, the food was good, but the experience and romanticism of the evening was ruined by the staff. Let me just say that I am a very presentable person and my wife as well with impeccable manners so appearance and dress was not the problem here. Just bad service and rude staff.”

“My husband and I were visiting family in Tucson. We wanted to take them to a nice restaurant and chose Anthony's. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Two of the four meals were definitely not up to par and certainly not worth the price we paid. I ordered the crab ravioli with spinach and tomato confit. The raviolis were tough, the spinach was not done right and worst of all the tomato confit was bitter tasting, really almost inedible. I left most of the meal on my plate. When the waiter inquired, I mentioned that the tomato confit was bitter. He hardly acknowledged this complaint at all and said nothing. He did not convey his apology -- simply no response. It is inexcusable for any meal that costs over $25 to be of such poor quality. My brother-in-law had the duck and thought it was okay but not excellent. My husband enjoyed his osso bucco and my sister-in-law liked her rack of lamb. However, I believe that a restaurant that is touted to be so good should do better than two out of four. We would certainly never go back and neither will our family.”

“The food is tasty, and it's very well priced. It's in downtown Tucson, and that means that it's only open during business hours Monday through Friday, and that's a bit of a bummer. However, they have great specials, and I can get a meal with leftovers for $4.50 - $5.50. You can buy one of their meals, their daily specials, or a la carte. I highly recommend Alejandro's. It is, indeed, good for business travelers, but only if they are traveling to downtown Tucson.”

“After hearing rave reviews about Yuki, I took my Sushi loving spouse for dinner. We ordered the Sushi boat and had Kirin beer to wash it down. The sushi and sashimi were good, miso soup excellent. It was the indifferent service that was appalling. Our food was literally pitched on table and the bill was practically tossed down. No thank you or check ins from our servers, one who was apparently the wife of the owner. We'll buy our sushi at Costco while we look for a much more customer service oriented Japanese restaurant in town.”

“I recently visited Cattle town and I have nothing to complain about it. The food was great and the service too. I am a big meat eater and I have never had a steak as good as the one I got at Cattle Town. It was perfectly cooked, I got the biggest steak and it was really tender and juicy. My server was really good. She had a smile on her face the entire time, as she made my experience enjoyable. Visit Cattle town, you will not be disappointed.”

“Blue Willow is my favorite place to eat in Tucson. I no longer live in Arizona, but visit this restaurant everytime I get back to Tucson. This restaurant defines what "service" is supposed to mean. In addition, the enviroment is spectacular. You escape the blazing sun of AZ, but you can still enjoy your meal outside in a cooler environment. Also, the raspberry tea is heaven on earth! Lastly, the DESSERTS are the best ones in all the Sonoran DESERT! This restaurant combines great food, a superb ambience, and service all into one burrito! Visit it soon!”
