“Excellent food and good prices. Will definitely come here again. Friendly staff.”

“It's tough finding a good bagel in San Antonio. Benny's comes closest; they're tough and chewy and definitely hand made as a good bagel should be. The only complaint is that the hand-makers must not be very experienced because their shape is very irregular; hard to slice for the toaster. They're still 'way better than the soft no-character offerings elsewhere. Maybe Tooties can get some good shapers there.”

“We have eaten there many times. We think this is one of the best places to eat in Coprus Christi. I usually get the Prome rib which is excellent.”

“The Chili & Soup are warmed up from a can. The fries & onion rings tasted like they had been in the freeze forever and were barely warm. The service was great. The place had some old fashion appeal. The service and the place really doesn't matter since the food was terrible! The hamburger tasted like it had been around too long!”

“Ordered Burgers and got home to find fish burgers in the bag. Punk teens run the place and clown around the whole time. For your money I would suggest MG'S on Woods St.”

“Pretty basic Deli. Food is average for a Deli type place. Lots of choices for all tastes. Nothing really special. Not a place I would probably eat at, better for take-out. For business you can place a bunch of individual orders and have them delivered. Great for a working lunch!”
Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided to other MYTravelGuide members. Your vote will be counted and will soon appear on the review page. Golden Corral
“Golden Corral is a pretty expensive all you can eat buffet. As is usually for such a place, given any single type of food, the food is usually below average, except for their fresh baked rolls, which tend to be pretty good. Since they added Steaks and such on, the buffet price went up. With the general food quality, all you can eat is only good if you are very, very hungry, otherwise your money is probably much better spent on a nicer restaurants.”

“Food is pretty basic down-home and stick-to-the-ribs type food. I like there hamburgers and onion strings. Have eaten there several times. Lots of selection so most likely something appealing to everyone. Decent pricing - I'd say $6 - $15 per meal range, not including drink and appetizers. Nice atmosphere. Not fantastic food, just basic food done well.”

“I eat here quite often - one of my favorites in town. Food is good, well above average of Mexican Restaurants I have eaten at. It is a chain but I have only eaten at the one in Lubbock. As a side dish, I absolutely love the Papas Con Chile! Food is reasonably priced. Service is great. Free Chips and Salsa before the meal. They can handle large groups if you have the need (call ahead or make reservations, they can have a wait if you just show up). This is a place we often take visitors when in town.”

“It has been several years since I ate there, hopefully it has changed. The food was excellent, however, while I was seated in a non-smoking section, the cigarette smoke was constantly drifting from the smoking section and ruined what could have been a nice meal - after a while I could taste the smoke more than the food. Place is a combination restaurant/bar/video game parlor/pool hall.”

“I travel a lot and like Japanese food, however, Tokyo Steakhouse had the worst food of any Japanese restaurant I have ever eaten at - not terrible mind you, just well below average. Someone recommended Tokyo Steakhouse as the best Japanese restaurant in town. I haven't tried the others, but if this is the best in town, Lubbock has no good Japanese restaurants. On the flip side, people were friendly and the atmosphere was very nice. Also, in regards to other reviews of this place, it is primarily a Teppanyaki place, not Hibachi.”

“This restaurant is close to where I live and in years past has received some negative reviews (including my own). Deservedly so as it was dirty and smelled heavily of cigarettes. About a year ago it became a non-smoking establishment with new carpet and better food. I have eaten there several times since and so far have not had a disappointing meal. (The home-made meatloaf served on Monday's lunch buffet is great).”

“This is a restaurant that has been there forever! Out of the way, you have to remember it, but it's worth it. Reminds me of the old diners in the movies, but the food is very good. Enchiladas, the way they tasted back in the old days served in the metal plates, Chicken fried steak, the way mama made it at home. Atmosphere is just down home, nothing fancy.”
Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided to other MYTravelGuide members. Your vote will be counted and will soon appear on the review page. Ole West Steakhouse
“If you eat off the buffet, expect your food to be overheated from the lamp. It tastes dry. Also, the waitresses they hire I swear, have no education. They prance around looking for attention more than anything. One girl was decent, but you could tell she had no brain cells. People like this don't make my experience pleasant. They did have a good dessert menu, however, but if you are looking for country bumpkins and people with no brains to serve you, then this is your place. If not, then you need to position yourself around educated people.”

“I'm originally from Chicago and after a night of drinking and dancing we would go to White Castle Burger. Chico's is the White Castle of El Paso. You could get a sack of rolled Tacos covered in some kind of spicy green sauce that 20 minutes after eating would make you sleep like a baby. This is a local stop after the bars closed so it was always very busy at 2:15 A.M. on Fridays and Saturdays.”

“I used to spend a lot of time in El Paso and Smokeys was my home away from home away from home. The people were always friendly and warm. They had a great juke box, reasonable prices, and a hometown atmosphere.”

“Took adult grandkids to an evening meal. Grandson's Chicken fried steak was good; granddaughter's Filet mignon was overcooked and over seasoned as was my Pork chop. Potatoes were also overcooked. Waitress was being trained, supposedly, but trainer really needed work. Will never go back there again.”

“While we waited for the rest of our party of nine to arrive we had a drink at the bar and the atmosphere and service was excellent. Thinking that good things were in store for us in the future I was disappointed when we were finally seated. The fried olives were amazing and the calamari was pretty standard. The soup arrived and was a big disappointment. The tomato basil soup was bland with no basil flavor and filled with potatoes and various other vegetables. Not my idea of tomato basil soup. When our entrees arrived the discrepancy between the quality of two of the same dishes was astonishing. Two of our party ordered the tenderloins and the while one of the dishes was what you would expect, the other was tough and almost inedible. Other dishes that were ordered were okay, but nothing to write home about. The one thing that we all agreed on were that The Greenhouse knows how to make potatoes. While the sweet potato fries were cold, the mashed potatoes were excellent.”

“I am 29 and have been going to Mis Cazuelas since I was 15 or 16. I love the food here. Their chips and salsa are to die for. Their salsa is not too bland and yet not overwhelmingly spicy either. The service is not the greatest but their food is so good that you tend to forget the quality of the service. I like Tex Mex food but prefer real Mexican food. If you want authentic Mexican food, Mis Cazuelas is the place for you.”

“The food was good and the waitresses were beautiful! When I was leaving I wanted to give the cook good accolades on the steak as it was very good and had a very pleasant conversation with him and when we were leaving he mentioned to me "Hey you guys are on your bikes you can just go through the fence that way you go straight through the crossover in the road without having to go all the way down and turn around and never pointed or told me what fence. So we went through the rear fence as this looked like what he was talking about, when we came around the rear of the building the restaurant workers especially the cook screamed at my wife and told her that we should have never come back there and yelling at her that we need to read the signs that said do not enter. but as far as what we determined he gave us permission to go around the back fence. Very rude and disrespectful to my wife and I will never return to this restaurant because of it. Could have been handled in an adult manner without screaming at my wife!”

“Used to be great. Now I would not recommend eating there. Food was cold, not what was listed on the menu. Wait staff seemed to dislike the job or the ownership. Not a pleasant dining experience.”

“After spending 2 hours waiting for a table, our meal was cut short due to a roach crawling on my leg. After reporting it to the general manager, he stated, "it happens," and proceeded to offer me an on the house dessert. The prices are too high for the quality and service of the food, the inner portion of the restaurant was dingy and dirty. All and all, what a disappointment.”

“It has a special flair for making everything delicious, all family recipes. I've almost everything and have never been disappointed. The homemade salad dressing is also great.”

“I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The service was great but it was the food that really astonished me, there are several different selections not normally found in a small cafe. This is not your usual run of the mill Chinese restaurant but can be taken seriously by someone looking for good Chinese food.”

“I love the Green Tea. I've gone there for seven years, I even went before they moved across the street. The atmosphere is very calming most of the time. The food is delicious and the chocolate frozen milk shake is wonderful. You can go in the morning and just grab a croissant or something and at lunch you can get just about anything. The only problem is how long the food takes, but you must excuse them for this because they only have two people working in a very small kitchen most of the time.”

“My family ate here and we like spicy food but the taco sauce was so hot you could not eat it. The Queso Dip tasted like it had onions and chili powder in it. It was just awful! A month later we decided to give it another try to see if things had changed but sadly everything tasted the same. After tasting the Queso dip the last time and realizing it was still awful I asked the server if she could just take it away and off my bill she acted like I had insulted her and she was rude. We will not be going back again.”

“My sister, my brothers and I visited the restaurant on Aug 22, 2009 for lunch. The prices seemed rather high for lunch. Service was slow because our waitress was trying to service tables of 30, 18, and 12 patrons in addition to the 4 of us. We were disappointed that the restaurant has stopped serving a side of pinto beans. The filets are mostly breading and very little fish. The instant tea was awful. Real tea should be served, or none at all.”

“We love catfish and David Beard's is one of the best in our estimate. We ordered the catfish fillets, which we realized wasn't a good choice, as it was mostly breading with little scraps of catfish. However, it was piping hot. The hush puppies were passable. The biggest disappointment was the instant ice tea. I don't expect to be served powered ice tea in a restaurant except the very cheapest. Since I would never drink it even in my home, I certainly don't want to pay restaurant prices for it. The cold slaw, French fries, and tomato relish were up to our expectations. The French fries were piping hot. The problem was that it advertises all you can eat. The waitress brought out tiny, little saucers of relish, cold slaw, and tartar sauce. A small platter of fish, French fries, and hush puppies and then disappeared. There were four adults in our party. She eventually reappeared after about 15 minutes and asked "is everything OK." We said no and she asked what we needed. Since every tiny little dish was empty, it should have been apparent what we needed. She did bring back another serving, but didn't refill our drinks. She apologized that she couldn't serve us in a timely manner because she was serving two large parties in a different area of the restaurant. We eventually just gave up and left. The one other thing that we would like is that they start serving the pinto beans again. They used to serve beans. This is something that we all miss.”

“Located in an old, remodeled steakhouse - it really doesn't Feel like a Chinese Food place. The generous portions (especially lunch buffets) and great taste will help you forget about the decor though.”

“Not a bad place to dine - but certainly not worth the solid 10 star rating the previous reviewer provided. Portion size is moderate, food quality is good, service was average, price was good on specials, a little high on other offerings. Recommended - but not amazing.”

“As out of town travelers we had heard of Port A and the amazing seafood. Well it was not to be found here. On arrival there were two teenage girls sitting with feet up in the air and smacking gum - was a major effort to show us to the table. The menu well, the less said the better, what with those prices and the rubbish we were served - I will add I have been on a hunt for frozen crab cakes that could possibly compare to those. Please do not waste your money going to eat there! We have told all our friends visiting not to eat there.”

“I went to the Knox Street location last week with my daughter. I had been there before and my daughter visits this very location on average twice a week! You would think that in today's economy, a restaurant would greatly appreciate loyalty like that. Think again! I will simply say this: I have never been treated worse in a restaurant and neither of us will ever be going back to any on the border location as long as I live. Their food is alright so I could make the case that I will miss it, but there are so many good Mexican restaurants in this town.”

“Priced a little high, even with Military discount for two adults and four children (ages 8, 6, 3, and 11 months). With that price, I expected the food to taste better, or at least not get cold within the first 60 seconds of sitting down. Positive: China Garden has a very large selection of items, and they are kept well stocked; you'll get full if you sample all items. They have a large selection of after lunch/dinner treats as well. The wait staff was extremely accommodating towards my large family, keeping our table clear for extra trips to the buffet line and cleaning up spilled soup and drinks.”

“Each year I look forward to going to a Catfish King restaurant somewhere in Northeast Texas (we don't have them in the Chicago, IL area). Last year it was Texarkana (just a week or two before it burned down!). This year, I stopped in for lunch at the one in Sherman, TX on July 23, 2009. I placed my order for the Special Catch (four pieces of catfish, fries, beans and Cole Slaw). It arrived at my table about 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, the thing Catfish King is best known for, its catfish, was not as tasty as in the past. In fact, it was just a bit on the fishy tasting side. Otherwise, the hush puppies, fries, beans, Cole Slaw and tomato relish were fine. Could be one of those days when the cooking staff missed the fact that the fish wasn't quite up to par. I'll give this chain another try as they've always had excellent catfish in the past. Hope this day was an exception.”

“I have traveled plenty and have had my share of bad customer service, but this is the worst place of all! The lady served us was nothing but rude. She never asked us for water, we had to yell over to call her. We were the only people in the restaurant so it's not rocket science to figure out that she should have attended us longer. Then, when I needed to pay, she wanted me to sign the receipt exactly the same as on my ID. Hello, not all signatures are identical. We were actually going to leave her cash as tip n no credit card because that's what I always do. But, she just went on and on about how she made our drinks and we need to leave at least a five dollar tip. We left a dollar at the table. I will never go back. I wish she would go out of business so no one makes the same mistake I made and have to deal with her. The food was pretty good, but for that much poor service it's not worth it. Never again! I will run into traffic on the freeway before having to eat there and see that ugly Asian again! If I could give it negative stars it would have at least ten negative stars. But, this thing makes me give it something. This place needs to crash and burn and I won't be surprised when it does with an owner like her, yup, that's right. She was the owner.”

“This is a five star seafood restaurant for sure. We have eaten at some of the best seafood restaurants in the Galveston, Corpus Christi, South Padre Island and Rockport areas and none can compare to Bayside Restaurant in Port Lavaca. The shrimp and oysters are absolutely the freshest and will melt in your mouth. The seafood portions are generous and very reasonable. Discovered this place by accident while on a fishing trip to nearby Seadrift. No better fried shrimp and oysters anywhere.”

“For the past five years I've hated to pass Watson's without stopping. My Mom and wife have all had opportunity to sample it and agree with me that the food is great. Burgers have great onion and mustard flavor. Fries have skins attached and taste like those I make at home. My iPhone told me they even have WiFi if you're stopping in. This is major cut above your typical drive through fare!”

“This was my first time traveling to Port Aransas, and we overheard someone at the hotel mention this place. The food was great and the atmosphere was too. They had a great selection of fish and shrimp dishes. My husband had the Mahi-mahi and he really loved it! I will definitely visit again.”

“Canton is a small town (except during First Monday), so not that many eating establishments. They've got the usual - McDonald's, a pizza place, other fast food places and of course - Whataburger. No matter where you are, you can never got wrong with Whataburger. I like a place that just assumes you want mustard on your burger, not mayonnaise. I like the fact that I order a burger and I don't have to say, with mustard, no mayo. I grew up in Corpus Christi, where Whataburger originated and had my fair share of burgers, for sure. I live in Houston and am having a Whataburger. Whenever we go to First Monday, we always make it a point to eat at Whataburger at least once.”

“They advertise voted best BBQ on the lake, and I could have told them that, even before I knew that! I have had gastric bypass, and can't tolerate fat-it! They have the best beef, ever. I've eaten there for about 25 years off and on, my folks live here, and after I retired and we moved here. We start the car and if it's lunchtime or dinner, we go to Tommy's! Don't want to brag too much or we'd have to move in with Tommy to get a seat!”

“Being a local who has been to Idabel Catfish King many times, I would say that the restaurant has changed for the better over the years. Everyone knows about this restaurant. Being on a prominent junction of highways in Idabel is great. Locals even use the restaurant as a landmark for giving directions. The atmosphere is much improved over the old store. The decor is just about the best of any catfish restaurant I have ever visited. The fountain and stream outside are outstanding. We were seated pretty quickly this last visit and the waitress immediately took our drink order. She seemed to do her best to take care of us and was one of the best things about the whole visit a couple of weeks ago. She appeared to be working hard and was very pleasant and welcoming. The meal was provided in a relatively quick amount of time though it is not a fast food restaurant. The salad bar is one of the best in the whole county. It was reasonably well stocked, appeared fresh and tasty. The restaurant appears to be clean, reasonable place to eat. I really like the Cajun catfish recipe. I will say that they appear to be using a very meager portioning guide. If the menu says 3-4 pieces, you will only get 3. If the menu item says 5-6, you will only get 6 and so on. The pieces themselves look like they have been chopped into very small sizes to ration the portions. The portion size is the reason I marked down the overall value score. I am not a huge eater, but it just appears to take up a small area on the plate and not be generous portions. I wish there had been a middle answer for the question about being a good value for your money. Since it was either a yes or no proposition, I had to choose no due to portion size. Otherwise, I enjoy the Catfish King.”
