“We stayed right down the street at the Rock Crest Lodge great! and so this restaurant was a quick 2 mile straight shot down from our cabin. Wonderful food - the Walleye was fantastic. Nice wine & beer selections. We came on a Thursday, in late Sept. so it was slightly off-season already. It was busy but not uncomfortable. I can see why this restaurant maybe very busy on weekends and the summer season when some reviewers have complained about a waiting time. It's a small place-worth waiting if you want a gourmet healthy quality food dinner.”

“Can't believe you have any good ratings. Ask for a very well done steak. It was completely raw and cold. Waiter set it down and said that it looked like they forgot to put it on the grill. Ha Ha. Did we want it that way. Said no. Please feel free to take it back and burn it. The second one came back just as raw. It was not rare. It was cold and raw. Ask to have it cooked more and was told sorry we will take off your soft drink price. We were polite at all times. I am 50 years old and this is only the second time in my life I have sent anything back or complained. It has to be pretty bad for me to say anything. I told everyone at our hotel not to eat there. It was horrible. The twice baked potato tasted like it came out of a grocery store frozen food package. It was awful also.”

“Food quality is institutional. Absolutely the worst meal my wife and I have ever had. My wife had the Turkey dinner which consisted of one slice of turkey lunch meat between 2 slices of bread with gravy. Rubber like turkey with the cheapest wonder bread available. My pork dinner was way over-cooked and the mash potatoes were quite laughable. They take no pride in what they do and I assume most of the dinners are prepared beforehand as it took only a couple of minutes for us to get our so-called food. Eating out of the garbage at McDonald's would have been better.”

“This used to be my favorite restaurant but now the new owners have run it into the ground, the last 4 times I have been there the food really was nothing like before, chicken overcooked, artichoke dip with beer bread burnt, and for 2 plates of food an appetizer and 2 drinks between me and my girlfriend over an hr, 1 time the waiters was so slow after ordering within the first 10 min we didn't see our appetizer for 40 min and our food came 5 min following, it wasn't busy actually pretty dead and it still took that long.”

“This place has been the only game in town, until the new chef arrived at St Charles Hotel, so the uninformed folk of Pierre have made this owner somewhat rich. Pretentious. Staff not very polished. Appetizer of clams were okay. My entree was Sailfish. Should of stopped there, according to the menu's description of this dish, it favored Swordfish. OMG! Fish was dry, and swimming in a broth of the unknown with soggy veggies. Mind you I requested to not have the veggies, but to instead have a caesar salad. WOW, you' d think I was asking for the keys to the restaurant. Meltdown in the kitchen. Couldn't fill my request. Overpriced and horrible food.”

“The name says it all. Cattleman's. One other item was fried shrimp. Oh boy! Tacky plastic containers with salad items, onions, tomatoes, etc. Very noisy atmosphere. Nothing fancy at all. Would never go there again.”

“We went to the Empire Mall on a very cold day to celebrate a birthday the person I was with had special needs. We were first greeted by a waitress which assisted us to a table which was wheelchair friendly and the other guests were friendly wishing her a happy birthday. We were in no rush. She brought us coffee and menus. Coffee was cold. She took our order with explanation of special need, she later came back telling us they were unable to meet need. I handed a machine to her and later she came back saying they did not have time to do this. She the said we would have to talk to the managing floor waitress. She said they were too busy (the place was only 25% full) I told her we were in no hurry, soon waitress came with my order along with her telling us they could not operate the machine. (It is quite simple and it does work.) The special needs person tried to convince me that my food was here and I should eat, I said no if they can not meet your needs they can not meet mine. Patrons around us were also sadden, we would just like to thank you for making this a very dishearten birthday, shame on you!”

“There are some servers who are better than others. They often have good entertainment on the weekends and even on the weekdays during the summer out on the patio. Overall it is a very good dining experience, so I always return in the summers when I visit family Rapid City.”

“I've been here 3 times. The first was during lunch, and the food was just ok, keeping in mind its a buffet. The other times it was terrible. My husband and I went during dinner time. It was full of loud obnoxious people, the food even smelled bad, and the Mongolian barbecue, they had setup was full of meat that wasn't even frozen! Seriously the meat was floppy and warm. We mostly ate noodles and things that were fried and still got sick!”

• Our sweet waitperson kept saying 'awesome'! The young can be so tiresome.

“An eye-round buffalo steak was perfect - medium rare, tender, and delicious, served with a tall cylinder of baked sweet potato topped with a frizzle of fried sweet potato. A Caesar salad - a heaping platter of Romaine lettuce, conveniently served with its dressing on the side - was a blessed relief from all that coast-to-coast iceberg. Portions were generous, service was attentive, and the restaurant had an impressive wine list. Even on a Monday night, locals drifted in two's and four's to fill most of the tables.”

“I would have rated a zero had it been an option. Upon entering the restaurant the atmosphere was very tense. The hostess was cold and rude, they were not busy, yet seemed to take a while to get service. The coffee although Starbucks, had floating grounds and other unknown foreign objects. The waitress had a scowl and was short with us. Even though we were eating breakfast at 9:20 am on a Saturday, it took quite awhile to get our food. When the food finally arrived, my toast was burnt, hash brown potatoes were dry and cold, the eggs were to be scrambled yet were greasy and folded several times like an omelet, and extremely hard. I had to ask for silverware 3 times and she brought each one not on the table individually. The menu was way over priced and my meal cost more the my dinner a couple nights before in Rapid City. I would not recommend eating at this place as the floor was filthy and the tables were dirty. The bathroom floor was a wet mess and it appeared that all of the employees hated their jobs, not a smile or hello to be found.”

• Great, unique pasta creations.
• Its ok for wait staff to write things down. It might help with mistakes.

“The restaurant itself was nice. It was a romantic setting but almost too dark especially in the bar area. It was busy but we were seated right away. It took a little while to get our waiter and drinks seemed to take forever. One thing I noticed is that none of the wait staff used pens or paper to take orders; they all just "memorized" what you wanted. I thought it was neat until our dinner arrived and one of the plates was wrong. It was immediately replaced but with some gruff from the waiter. The food was phenomenal. It was full of flavor and the portions are huge. I expected some kind of discount on the wrong food but when we got the bill there was nothing there.”

“Food was overdone and tasteless. Noodles and pasta too limp and soggy like it was sitting for awhile. Not like the Olive Garden when it first came out years ago. Even the breadsticks were tasteless. The service was below par for this type of restaurant. We had to find our waitress and beg for more drinks. She seemed like she wanted us to hurry and get out too. We had about 8 people with us and of course that takes some time for everything. I felt we overpaid for crap!”

• Slow neg. waitress, noise, no atmosphere-seemed a dull color and like eating in a factory caf. Need some color and tone the metal down.

“Expensive for more than a family of four. Food is good as a one time try, but very, very salty and too strong on the flavorings like the peppercorn/bleu cheese hamburger. The taste was overwhelming and hard to eat after the first half. My tongue was numb. I am a food critic and use to all kinds of flavors/seasonings and taste. The fries were too hard to eat and a salt lick. It was noisy for having only about 12 tables full. During the buffet, about 10 employees came out around 2:30PM to tear it down making it noisier and seem like we were intruding at the close of the restaurant. Good menu, keep your hands off the salt shaker and it may be a nice place to go especially if you like the bar types.”

• Rude, order was incorrect.

“We placed a fairly large order to go, it was to be delivered (delivery times start from 11-2) but we couldn't get it in the time we needed. We went to get the order only to get back to the office and the soup was correct, but the sizzling rice soup had little to no rice, 1 shrimp. They gave us 2 out of 7 entrees that were correct, the rest we aren't sure what it was. There was supposed to be a beef dish and that was not there. The Happy Family dish had no scallops or crab as described and 3 shrimp, 2 of which still had the tail on (shouldn't have). The entire meal was about $90. When we called to talk to them about the problems, we were basically called liars or in their words "a difficult customer" and was told "you never have to order from us again." Guaranteed we will never, ever, order from there again.”

“There service was ok. The food took forever to get and when we did it was cold and undercooked. After telling the waitress about the problems the food was taken back to the kitchen and warmed to a more acceptable manner. Apparently the owner had an issue with a customer who was doing nothing more than sitting and having a drink. The owner proceeded to swear at this man and then kicked him out of the restaurant. So we had food and entertainment!”
