Scoop's Homemade Ice Cream

• Not enough chairs, gets really crowded at times.

“I went to Scoop's with my family while I was there on vacation. We stayed there for one week and we ate there 4 times. The ice cream was great, and the service was spectacular. The store had three young men that worked every night and they never failed to make us laugh. Truth be told that was part of the reason we kept going back, they didn't treat us like any other customer. They talked and interacted with us in a way I have not noticed anywhere else. I would strongly recommend the place to anyone traveling to the area and I know that I will for sure stop by the store on my next vacation!”

• Love the Soul food and Southern down home cooking.
• Need to remember to bring your Tums. You will overeat.

“It's a short drive down highway 521 from Charlotte, NC to Lancaster, SC. But, if you want down home country cooking, and you are very hungry, you can't go wrong at JoMars. You pay one price and get all you can eat and they have a lot of food that other restaurants don't have. And, it's fresh, not frozen. Great collard greens, butter beans, fried okra, and even fried catfish. The staff and waitresses are friendly and I guarantee you that you will find something you will like. You can order off the menu if you're not that hungry. We love this place and hope it never changes.”

• The food was disliked by all. No flavor and just seemed nasty. Had to throw it out and money wasted.

“Until the last month or so, the food has always been great. The last month I've ordered twice and there was no taste to the toppings except the pepperoni. So the next time I ordered I ordered double bacon, double pepperoni, onion, sausage etc. you would think this would definitely have flavor, but none! I was so disappointed and I was shocked that a placed I liked so much had gone so down hill. It's like the toppings had been frozen for months and months and had no flavor. Delivery guys are great! But this place won't last long with old food and no flavor.”

“For my first time at Nick's, I had a wonderful experience. I went there with a couple of people and I would definitely go back with more. The servers are internationally spread and knowledgeable about the restaurant and the island. The food was reasonably priced for the quantity they give. I was most excited about their all-you-can-eat crab legs. Even though I did not personally have them, my guests enjoyed them and found that they were delicious. I had the filet. They cooked it to perfection and topped it off with caramelized onions and mushrooms. I would recommend this restaurant to friends who are coming to have a great meal. The atmosphere is also kid-friendly.”

• You can get pizza by a click if you are willing to pay a lot for it.
• The pizza isn't very good and there isn't a decent salad to be had on the menu.

“Just when you thought you can't screw up pizza. I am not a fan of Fernando's. Pizza is mediocre and worst of all, they don't have a decent salad! If you get a Greek salad, you get a Ken's Greek dressing packet. They can't even make their own vinaigrette. Lazy and poor quality food! PS- friend worked there. The lasagna is Stouffer's! Swear to God! They add sauce to the top and put it under the broiler!”

• The long wait on weekends. Sometimes the wait can be as long as one hour!

“Sato was very different from what I expected. From trying other Japanese restaurants like Sumo, I was able to experience a different taste and a different level of authenticity. Sumo's food was also good, but Sato's food just tasted like something out of the ordinary. For example, the fried rice at Sumo's tasted somewhat like a mediocre dish that you can acquire at a nearby China Hut. But Sato's rice is very different and has a taste that must be experienced yourself to be believed. The staff was friendly but I don't think it is a very romantic atmosphere because of the different parties that you have to sit with and the loudness of the restaurant itself (with other chefs cooking and lots of other people talking.) But one thing that I did not like but I guess it couldn't be helped was the long wait time during weekends. I did not have a reservation and had to wait for 45 minutes to actually sit down. But other than that, it was a great experience!”

“They are known for there Ribs but the rib eye was off the chart I am very picky when it comes to my steak and usually mask most steaks with A1 I asked for A1 when they brought it out and never touched the bottle. Do not expect a fancy salad or upscale Ruth Chris type of place it is laid back and casual.”

“The food is bland and tasteless at best, extremely overpriced, and when I went under cooked. Everything is deep fried in a batter composed mainly of sawdust scraped off the floor of an old style saloon. Never got any one to wait on us until we went to a manager and asked, then some very disgruntled waitress came over and asked what it'll be? I could only imagine that the culinary staff was decrepitly organized as we had to wait for 45 minutes for our food, which was very sad. Stay away from this place.”

• Location! Can't be beat for location and atmosphere with live music at night and lake views.
• Service could be more attentive. Dog night on Thursdays.

“Lake Lanier Tea House is not a Chinese restaurant (as of this writing, this site had it classified as such). It is upscale dining American cuisine including steak, fish, pork and chicken. I highly commend the chef for presentation and complex flavor that is pleasing. The location is exceptional and relaxing with live music on the night we were there. Our service could have been better with our waitress on her cell phone for a long time when we were waiting to order, not taking away used drink glasses, getting our order wrong and not providing a discount when my beef was far from the medium-well I had requested. The service wasn't terrible, but it wasn't up to par for the price range either (average entree). So basically, the location is great, the food is great, the service is okay. And if you don't want to sit next to a bunch of dogs, stay away from the patio seating on Thursday nights.”

“The food taste like it was warmed over not fresh. They would not allow us to sit down because they were getting ready to close. Although there were people still eating, they still had to clean up and they charged us full price for left over they would not let four women aged 55 - 85 sit down for 15 minutes. The temperature out side was about 100 F.”

• Not really a fan of their French fries, but it doesn't keep me away!

“This place is small and built strictly for drive through service, but you just can't let the small fool you. Any local will tell you that they have the best burgers in town. The Half Pound Bubba in a comb was less than $6.00 and that includes a drink! You can drive up on the left or right hand side of the building. And they are very fast.”

• The hash wasn't bad. I've had worse.
• The BBQ is baked in an oven and flavorless.

“Visited the Robert's BBQ on Rivers Ave. The place is very run down with lots of duct tape patching holes on the booths. Our order consisted of a rib plate and a BBQ plate. Both with hash, one with potato salad, and one with onion rings. First the meats. The ribs looked to be baked. They didn't really look boiled, but they may have been. I say baked as they were undercoked. Most boiled ribs fall off the bone (overcooked) and these were not like that at all. You could hardly bite through the meat they were so tough. There was absolutely no flavor except for the mustard based sauce slathered on top. The ribs were not seasoned at all. The BBQ I had was much the same. Baked in an oven and not seasoned except for that mustard sauce. This was some of the worst BBQ I've experienced in the SC Lowcountry. The hash & rice was only saving grace. It wasn't bad. The potato salad was obviously store bought and bland. The onion rings were the regular Charleston-style rings that several BBQ restaurants in the area serve. By Charleston style I mean over breaded and under onioned. There was a tiny little sliver of an onion ring surrounded by a batter that can only be described as hush puppy like. The rings are all bread and little onion (just like at all the Bessinger's places). I would not recommend anyone to visit Robert's for BBQ.”

• The amount of homemade food you get on most of the plates, also the Greek chicken and BBQ Pork chops huge portions.
• Some of the girls in front not as friendly as they can be but overall a family atmosphere.

“Best sweet tea in the world. Also the fastest drive through in the county and the one with the least mistakes98% of time your order is right ( get that at a chain). These guys still pile on the fries like they did when they first opened up some 20 years ago. Hurry and get your money's worth. A little pricey on some items but wait till you get your plate.”

• The greeter was very friendly and tried to make our stay more pleasant by speaking to the owner who still declined our request.
• The manager was very rude.

“The greeter was very nice and welcoming but the waitress, manager and owner were not service-oriented and very unfriendly. My 9 year old daughter only wanted clam chowder but the waitress said she couldn't order just a bowl of clam chowder. Then after speaking to her manager, he agreed to sell us a bowl of clam chowder for $2.95 if she shared my shrimp platter which was $19.99. I feel they accused us of being liars and trying to steal their food because we fit the mold of other families who have done that in the past. Whatever happened to service? My family and I have always patronized Bennett's Calabash, but never again!”

“My family and I go back and forth to the beach often. We always stop at Blue Ocean going to the beach and on our way back from the beach. The food is hot and fresh. The servers are great. They get what we need and take good care of us. We love the walls, the way they are painted. The restaurant is always clean. We love it here. The food is better than what we get at the beach. We will continue to keep going there.”

“My husband and I go to Blue Ocean once a week. We love it. The food is always good. The servers are real friendly. We also get a senior discount on our meals, which is great. We tell everyone about it. Our church also goes there to celebrate birthdays once a month. They sing happy birthday and bring out a slice of pie for the birthday people and make them feel special. We all love it there.”

“I can't remember a worse restaurant experience in recent history than the Glass House in Walterboro, SC. I ordered the Prime Rib Special. My wife had the Salmon Special. We waited forever for our dinners to come out. Dinner was okay, but very salty. My prime rib was inedible. I ordered a medium and it came out so well done that it was hard to cut. Pretty gutsy charging $18 for an Entree in SC that does not even include a salad. So, of course no prime rib left, so no replacement steak. I probably got the last piece of boot sole foisted off on me. Also, now they had no more rice. The waitress seemed to think this was all pretty normal and was diligently trying to shirk any responsibility. I ate what I could then we left. I think this restaurant is overpriced and poor quality both in terms of food and service.”

“We visited for brunch which was busy, but we got seated right away. Lots of good food, but this place seems to like to put cheese on everything. I ordered the shrimp and grits. In retrospect, I wish I had waited and gotten it somewhere without so much cheese. Friendly waitress, good people watching, nice outdoor patio. Several folks with babies/ small children. Look for coupons around town for this place.”

• Don't order the porch chop unless you like them very pink inside.

“Attractive decor in a historic home. The night we visited, my companion ordered the grilled porch chop on the recommendation of the waiter. The very thick chop was pink and raw looking in the middle. After we pointed that out they took it away and brought another one. It wasn't done right either. I ordered gumbo and a crab cake. Both were delicious. After we asked they comped the under done dinner cheerfully, but didn't offer to do it.”

“On the night we visited, getting our food seemed to take a while. Servers were attentive however. Oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious. My salad came out without the cheese described on the menu. No compensation was offered. Still, we had a coupon so we did okay. Server brought me a small taste of a local beer before I ordered. That was nice. Much of the seating is outdoors and there's a patio for people watching.”

“Worst service we have ever had. Started with drinks in the bar during happy hour. We could not get waited on so we went to the bar and served ourselves. When we went for our 7:30 reservation, the waiter only came after we requested some one take our order. When we asked for a substitution to the menu item the waiter was rude and later yelled at me when I made a comment to a friend seated next to me. Our party of five got up and left with out ever eating.”

“We got there early for the 50 cent oysters on the half shell and drinks. Staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. Two dozen oysters later our appetites were sated. Crowd was fun and seemed to enjoy this seafood spot tremendously! Bought great long-sleeve t-shirts too!”
