Tony Sparagna's Restaurant
Oct 30, 2009 by Michael from Melbourne FL

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • I can't eat more.

“Go there. It is a glimpse of what the old Italian neighborhood of Utica used to be. It is a place for good Italian gravy red sauce, macaroni pasta, a Utica Club beer. If those things mean something to you, then go. If not, go and find out! If you are Italian, you owe it to your stomach. The patrons and the staffs are the nicest people you'll ever meet.”

Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Convenient location, adequate parking.
  • Dirty, tattooed, surly teenage servers, dirty floors and restrooms.

“Slow service, not clean, indifferent food. The floor was dirty, the menu was dirty. I worked at a Friendly's years ago when I was in college. This place is definitely not up to standards.”

Laguna Restaurant
Oct 15, 2009 by Marie from NY

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • The bus boys.
  • Staff, wait, food, and manager.

“We should have known when we walked in on a Friday night. With all of the open tables they sat us right next to the kitchen. The food was pricey but we didn't mind. When our food took over one hour, and the Eggplant was burnt then we were not pleased at all. The manager practically laughed it off and once we complained, the servers never came by again. What a disappointment. I have never been treated so rudely for mediocre at best food.”

Quinta Steakhouse
Oct 13, 2009 by Roy from Montvale

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[2] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Close to home, so I didn't have to wait to use my bathroom.
  • Food.

“Just terrible food, enough salt in every item to raise your blood pressure 100 points. The food was fatty, undercooked, lacked any flavor, the fries, drenched in oil, with a bottle of salt. Stay away from this so called steak house and to add insult to injury, they rush to leave after you finish your meal. Wife's Stuffed Fish was right out of the freezer, and into the microwave!”

Wok And Roll Cafe
Oct 13, 2009 by Pamela from Southport CT

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The food is excellent, a light touch with much subtle Asian flavors.
  • The ambiance is not as lovely as the original location, but still is nice and cozy in a wonderful place in town.

“The head chef and owner of Wok and Roll had been with the original Little Bear in Bearsville, just on the other side of Woodstock years ago. He still has his magic touch and the dishes, particularly those with his special signature are truly excellent. He has a light touch and each plate is full of flavor, and so very nicely presented. Having not been back to Woodstock for years, it is wonderful that this lovely Chinese treasure is still in town! Looking forward to a repeat visit soon.”

Quinta Steakhouse
Oct 12, 2009 by Roy from Montvale

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[3] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Cleared the table in record time.
  • Just about everything.

“The food was the worst I have ever had, fatty, undercooked, no flavor. The fries that came with, were so salt covered and oily that I had sickness for two days. They give you the buns rush on a Saturday night, couldn't have forced you out sooner. My wife's stuffed fish, came right out of the freezer into the microwave, definitely not made on premises. Then there's the noise factor, the acoustics are terrible, the sounds resound against the walls, totally unpleasant dining experience and not inexpensive.”

  • Can sometime be a wait to get seated on a busy Fri or Sat night. Reservations recommended.

“I've been to the Ripe Tomato many times over the years and have always had a pleasant and memorable experience. Whether I am looking for a romantic dinner for two or to take the family out for Sunday brunch or even for a corporate lunch on meeting which I have done there twice now, the atmosphere at this place just always seems to fit because if the way that the space is broken up. As for the food, the restaurant has some unique and inspired dishes and also some classic favorites and I always find myself impressed with the flavor combinations. Truly a great restaurant for those who enjoy delicious cuisine. I would highly recommend.”

Lushane's
Oct 8, 2009 by Nathalie from Nyack

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[1] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Appetizer fried calamari was good.
  • Main courses, stale wine, dessert.

“I just recently moved to Nyack. One of the reasons for choosing this river town was the availability of good restaurants. Therefore, I was very excited to try Lushane's, especially having read such amazing reviews. Granted they were dated and I ate there on a Wednesday night. Yet, that it was a weekday is hardly an excuse for serving food that was mediocre at best. The butternut squash ravioli was a completely bland disappointment. The special pork tenderloin was overcooked and the sides were tasteless. The red snapper special was also overcooked and the presentation was ridiculous. And, as if it weren't bad enough, the Crianza I was served had surely been sitting around for a while. For the prices, one expects so much more. I won't be going back ever.”

  • Rudest delivery people on the planet.

“I placed an order for delivery, and when my food was brought to my office the delivery person threw my change at me - this is after I paid extra for the delivery. Too bad, I used to love this place - but I will not be giving them any more of my money. Rudest delivery person I have ever encountered, and for absolutely no reason at all. You should be ashamed Johnny's!”

V & R Restaurant And Pizzeria
Oct 6, 2009 by Anne from Albany

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[4] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • The place is pleasant.
  • Our wait person did not know the deserts. He told us one and we listened to another from another person.

“We used to eat at V&r quite often and I do not know why we changed. We had a so-so meal tonight. We wandered in having forgotten about restaurant week. The bread was warm and good. My salad was not very good: a small plate with the greens whole so you had to cut them on the small plate. I had one lettuce leaf with a large bad hole in it. The tomato had been refrigerated so forget that. My husband had the lasagna which was large and not very good. I had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp was overcooked as was the pasta. The sauce was too runny. Will we go back I doubt it.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Everything.
  • Nothing.

“One of the finest restaurants I have eaten in, in a long time. We on long Island are surrounded by water but there are very few really good seafood restaurants. This is one! On a recent visit. The cold seafood platter was excellent and plentiful the desserts were to die for especially the Bobbe. Coffee freshly brewed service concerned and friendly. My husband and I dine out often in and around the Island and some of the best restaurants in Manhattan River view can hold it's own with any restaurant in the Metro area.”

Cafe Dolce
Oct 5, 2009 by ANGELA from PATTERSON, NY

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Appetizers.
  • Service.

“The service here was the absolute worst. The place is small with maybe six tables so we took seats at the bar. Ten minutes after we sat another couple, obviously friendly with the staff and owner, sat at the bar next to us. Although they arrived after us and ordered after us, they received both their appetizers and entrees 10 minutes before us. While waiting for our entrees, we could here the kitchen ringing a bell to pick-up food, hoping it was ours. But the waitress/bartender continues to clean a table, take an order and serve drinks, while our food sat in the kitchen and then once we finally got it, arrived cold. The appetizers, carpaccio and beets with goat cheese were good, but the entrees skirt steak and chicken piccatta pasta, in addition to being cold were nothing above ordinary. I do not recommend a visit.”

Food:[7] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The service was fairly fast although they were busy, friendly and efficient.
  • Food was good but not great.

“September 2009. First of all, this restaurant is located at the corner of Routes 318 and 414. It is not on Pumphouse Road. That is the home of the owner! Three of us had lunch, one breakfast. The breakfast was very good. The Chicken Gary salad was good. The cheeseburger was good. The turkey sandwich while good was in little pieces. Side orders of fries are HUGE! The sweet potato fries are good. Nothing really spectacular. Nothing was bad. The fish sandwiches looked good. They were very busy but the service was pretty fast and friendly. It is near the throughway.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • The flowers outside.
  • Everything else. Will never return!

“I am in the restaurant business. The restaurant I am in, is all fresh to order. I did not eat in Mahopac, I ate at the Four Brothers in Dover Plains. The service was horrific! A milkshake was ordered, a chocolate milk was brought. Asking for a burger, medium, with red onion and only Hellman's mayo. No red onion, lied about the mayo being Hellman's. The waitress wasn't sure at 1st, but then started reassuring me that they must have Hellman's. She never checked. Bread was brought, without plates. Garlic bread was ordered, it arrived burnt. My children wouldn't eat the French fries. They weren't cooked. However; my burger was a frozen, over cooked, hockey-puck, that I didn't eat either. The twister fries I ordered were ice cold, didn't eat that either. My son ordered a pizza. like rubber, again.”

Thursday and Friday is very loud starting around 8:00 P.M. The food is great and service quick. Good for a casual meal. We don't order burgers from any place else.”

Applebee's
Sep 13, 2009 by Skitty from Ottawa

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[5] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Price.
  • Service, some food.

“My husband, two kids and mother recently took a trip to Watertown to do some back to school shopping. One of the main reasons we go to town is to have our meals at the local Applebee's which has always had the best steak and wonderful service. We were seated by a server who informed us that our server was on a dinner break and she would take our drink and meal order and would be with us shortly. We received our beverages and appies (from a runner) and waited about 25 minutes to receive our meal (also by a runner). Four of us had ordered steak and all of the plate bottoms were full of water, I assume from the vegetables. Not very appetizing. We were in need of drink refills, when the server finally stopped by the table. He didn't ask if we needed anything but raised his eyebrows as if to so Well? We ordered more drinks and he returned with a sour face an attitude that said he was doing us a favor. He didn't stop by again and we had to ask someone else for the last drink refill. We decided to give it a go the next night and the service was even worse. I asked the bartender if there was a comment card we could fill out and she said that we could speak to the manager. I didn't really want to do that, but he wandered over and asked if there was a problem and I explained the situation. He looked unconcerned and said that sometimes that happens. We have always enjoyed our visits to this Applebee's but think that it has gone downhill.”

It seems as the new owners have dedicated themselves to revamping and drastically improving the menu. Also check out the interesting beers they have on tap.”

“Being that I am from Brazil I understand the culture difference of Brasilia, North American. The way the waiters and owner talk, not accent, but use of words is sometimes a direct translation from Portuguese, which does not always work, and may be lost in translation and seem rude to an American. While the Brazilian person might think she is being courteous, she/he might be perceived as rude. My experience was fine, I really liked the coffee and desserts.”

Food:[2] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Good and convenient locale.
  • Food, staff, service, menu are all awful.

“This restaurant has the worst service, worst food but best location if you're using the train. Located directly across from the train station makes it a hot spot for coffee and breakfast early in the morning. The staff is rude and don't even try to stop in for snacks and coffee at dinnertime because they'll tell you that you're "taking a table" when no one is waiting at all. I stopped going there after getting a piece of pie with a huge hair baked into the center. Never will go there again.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • The ambiance
  • Slow, rude service.

“I was lured into this restaurant by the warm, soft ambiance of the dining room. Little did I know this would turn out to be the worst dining experience that I've ever experienced in my life. We were seated far back in the outdoor seating, practically in the parking lot. With a party of 3, it took over an hour and a half from the time we were seated to the time that our entrees arrived. Meanwhile, several tables around us, including a table of seven who had arrived after us, and had a diabetic woman who threw a tantrum over the slow service, were served. The waiter was rude, unapologetic and shrugged off three requests for extra bread (we were given only 3 slices initially), as well as two inquiries about our appetizer by stating that he had 240 other customers to serve. The manager was reluctant to get involved and comped our original drinks and appetizer only after we pitched a fit. By that time I had a screaming headache and too angry to eat. What little I tasted of the Pasta was badly overcooked.”

“The only reason me & my husband went was because we had gift certificates to use. The first time we went, the service was as terrible as was the food. I don't know what kind of spices they use. Maybe they just make the recipe up as they go to cook which isn't bad if it tastes good at the end but it doesn't. The second time we went was just a few days ago the service was wonderful but the food was no better than the first time. My husband ordered mussels with fries thinking a side order of fries, but they put them on top of the mussels. Strange!”

“Very small portions, overpriced. Potato chips out of a bag, they give some fancy name, and then they want to charge for a coffee refill!”

  • None.
  • Expensive, small portions, not tasty.

“Expensive and not good at all. Ordered spaghetti, was $10.00 for a plate without meat, $1.25 per meatball if you want them. Lasagna had an odd taste to it and was tiny, $12.00. Meals came with two small bowls of lettuce with one black olive in it. Also a small loaf of bread that was the only enjoyable item of this meal.”

Honeys Niagara Falls

  • Nothing.
  • Food, filthy loud-mouth at outside bar.

“It was busy as it was Saturday evening (7 pm). We had to wait just inside the door and two other groups were ahead of us. About 15 minutes it was our turn. The lady skipped right over us and was going to seat what appeared to be some friends of her that were behind us and others. We spoke up as we had put our name in for seating. She apologized and sat us at an outside table which was fine. There were three of us (me, my wife, and our five year old grandson). The server was friendly and courteous (at first). When asked about a kids menu, he said they were out, but told us what was on it. We ordered the boy a hamburger meal but everything at the end was charged separately for a total of about $8. Way too much. After finding out it would be over an hour's wait for a pizza, we ordered something else. My wife got a chicken finger sub that was way overcooked. I ordered a Clam Strip dinner which came with French fries and Cole Slaw. The fries (which are supposed to be home made) were soggy with oil and limp. The Clam Strips were so undercooked that the batter was soaked with oil and falling off. There was so much oil saturated into the batter that I could ball up the batter on my plate. The Cole Slaw was tasteless. The grandson's hamburger was undercooked and still had almost raw meat in it, and the meal was cold. It must have sat around for a while. We decided not to complain to the server and ate what we could of the meal. While waiting for the check (almost 20 minutes) after we finished, the server came walking by and I had to ask for the check. While waiting for the check, a lady sitting at the outside bar was using language fitting for a steel mill. Her mouth should have been parked at a toilet instead of at the bar. Slinging out abusive words bombed like the fine trooper she was. Could hear her clearly and we were sitting at good 40 feet away. If you go there, don't sit outside near the bar, because I think she is a regular. We overheard our server and another worker verbally fighting each other.”

Docksider Restaurant

  • Views of the lake.
  • Food and service.

“What a disappointment! Although the view is spectacular, the service and food were horrible! Do not waste your time or $. We waited at the bar for our table which was fine, but we also got a view of the goings on in the kitchen. We watched as someone who might have worked there or maybe was just the local drunk, would visit the kitchen to pick food off customers plates and eat it! The staff was so overworked and stressed. We finally got a table and waited an hour just for our appetizers. Steamers, which were so dried out they were cracked! but, being diligent and hoping for the best we proceeded to wait another 45 minutes for our entrees! We finally had enough, and paid for our appetizers and got out of there! Tables all around us were complaining as well. And, the local drunk/employee was meandering thru and making a nuisance of himself. Too bad, this was the perfect setting for a great restaurant with much better management.”

The New Robin Hood Diner

  • Not the only place to eat.
  • Same old, same old.

“Ate there once, boring. Ate there last month, boring, ate there last year, boring. The place is a boring diner, that is in the beginning of town. Luckily, other eateries are in the town so you don't need to eat here. best of all, Liberty is a short drive and the food selection and amount of places to eat are plentiful. Don't waste your time here. The bar drinks are watered down and taste funny.”

Center Street Smoke House, Inc.

  • Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. Spotless bathrooms. Awesome decor.
  • Pricey.

“Delicious food. My mom found the chicken wings completely addicting! The building is much bigger inside than it looked from the outside! The booths are very big, the food is delicious, the decorations are VERY cool such as working phone booths, old punch-clocks and a turn-of-the-century phone. You can eat on the roof, on the second floor overlooking the first floor (if you can take the stairs), or sit on the ground floor where we did. I would have expected the bathrooms to keep the feel of your typical bar and grill but stepping into the women's bathroom, there was a classic feel and high level of elegance that Id compare to the powder rooms in the theaters where you might see Rent or something. Beautiful and spotless. The staff was friendly. My only complaint is the food is pricey (but their food holds up to such prices) and they ran out of the drink, my mother had wanted to order. But besides that, a terrific place and a surprising little gem well hidden in the tiny city of Batavia.”
