Bum Rodgers

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[6] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Cheap beer $2, and spicy garlic crabs make this place legend.

“I come here to drink the entire summer. With $2 beers and a live band every weekend. Honestly can't go wrong. Love the locals. Try the spicy garlic crabs. That's the only thing I eat here, by the dozens.”

Lucas Ristorante & Pizza
Sep 16, 2009 by Steven from Monmouth Junction

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Food.
  • The Owner.

“This place had a lot going for it until I could hear the owner screaming berating comments at his staff. I own a business. I understand what it means to wish your staff cared as much as you do, however, there is a time for training employees, and it isn't accomplished by insulting them. The food was good, but it turned my stomach to hear him.”

“My wife got sick after we ate there. She spent the night vomiting. She had Yellowfin Tuna Steak. The staff was pleasant. The plastic flowers on the table were low class, plus they were dusty.”

“We love this restaurant. An authentic Italian menu, fabulous food, knowledgeable waiters, fantastic selection and top notch specials. We have never been disappointed in the five years we have been going there, either with family, a romantic dinner with my wife or for various celebrations and get together with friends.”

Spikes Fish Market
Sep 8, 2009 by Rickybobby from Bayville

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[5] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Fresh seafood.
  • Price.

“Overpriced fish market. Looks gorgeous from the recently renovated exterior. The interior on the other hand is that of a beat up old fish market with the smell to accompany that picture in your mind. More of a local favorite that misleads people to be an outstanding eatery. Service is good and very speedy. Soups are bland. Rice is a terrible abomination. Do not order rice. Everything else is quite good though very fresh seafood although hygiene appears to be an issue at a glance. Overall: food is good, service is good but price is outrageous. Expect to empty your wallet, $20 a plate on average. I know it's seafood. But wait till you see the portions. At that point you'll get fed up and write a review. But I feel like I've been frank in this review heed my words. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.”

Akbar Restaurant, Inc
Sep 6, 2009 by Magnish from Howell

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[3] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • None.
  • The service and food.

“They skimp you on everything. Their alcohol was horrible, very watered down, and cheap. They do not know how to run a fine banquet facility. Food takes hours. Wait did I say food?, I mean dirt. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for such a D-List banquet hall. The bathrooms were very dirty, and smelt horrible. Their outside is ugly, featuring a view of the back of the hall. It looks like it was run down. They had one bartender for over 200 people and he cant serve for his life. So expensive, yet they are so cheap when it comes to portions. Serving drinks in short size glasses is not normal, and refusing a larger glass is even more unacceptable.”

Island Grill
Sep 5, 2009 by Sarah from CT

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[3] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Wait staff fairly attentive.
  • Dirty food, extremely rude manager, ultra slow service.

“Food is OK but very overpriced, but to be expected in a vacation city. What is not expected is the unbelievable rudeness of the manager. She was rude from the moment we walked in (and it should have been a clue to leave, but we waited against our better judgment). By the end I left in tears from her rude behavior and she was rude still when my husband spoke to her about her behavior. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They prey on vacationers and apparently have decided that they can act however they want because there will always be new tourists next week. Zucchini was sandy to the point of being inedible.”

Pad Thai Inc
Sep 4, 2009 by Courtney from Sayreville

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[3] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • The food is very spicy.
  • Service is rude and they have a roach infestation. Stay away!

“After I began eating my entree, a Pad Thai noodle dish, which was below average at best. I completely lost my appetite when I saw a roach climbing up the wall behind our table. I discretely asked the very rude waitress to please have my meal taken off of the bill, because I would no longer be able to eat it. The equally rude manager came over and said, " well we are bombing for them, since it wasn't in your food you pay half" And I said absolutely not. The roach then proceeded to fall on one of my friend's shirt while he was eating! If they are coming out in the day light, you can only imagine what is like where the food is being stored and prepared! Do yourself a favor, make the trip to either Mai Thai in Edison, or the Noodle House. The staff is much more friendly and you will get a great meal and a clean atmosphere.”

Jack Bakers Lobster Shanty 19
Aug 22, 2009 by TJ

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • 4 bread balls with sugar were better than the food.
  • Everything, total waste of time and money and expensive for frozen food.

“The restaurant was dingy and dark in the day time. The menu lacked any lobster which is strange for they call it lobster shanty. We have tasted better frozen food at home. The shrimp cocktail were ridiculously small, the fried shrimp were small, the steak fries were smaller than MacDonald's. The only thing large was the 50 dollar lunch bill for 2. Will never go back and waste our hard earned money. We can have the same items at home from the Shop-Rite frozen section that tastes better are way larger portions and have more flavor. Better off going for the 2 for 20 at Applebee's or spend the extra 20 at Red Lobster. It's amazing that anyone would return after eating here once.”

Il Villaggio Inc
Aug 20, 2009 by Ann

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • I really can't think of anything.
  • This was just not anything close to a fine dining experience.

“I had one of the worst Italian meals of my life here. The Penne Vodka was like glue, the salad had an overly acidic oil & vinegar concoction. This is Italian American cooking at its worst. I have no resemblance to anything authentically Italian. I have eaten better food in Pizzerias. The carpet was dirty, my flatware was dirty and I had to ask for replacements, as was my water glass. The room we were in, which was all windows, was hot as in the middle of winter. Every diner I was with, all 12 of us thought it was awful. I would never, ever eat here again. Not if you paid me. I'd rather heat up Stouffer. That's pretty bad.”

  • Food used to be excellent, service used to be good. Both are now poor.

“Food used to be excellent. Now it is mediocre at best. The place was not crowded when we were there but either our server, who was friendly but with a tinge of arrogance and indifference, or the kitchen made us wait for our meals. This used to be one of our favorite places. Food, atmosphere and service have all plummeted.”

Jerry's Pizza
Aug 18, 2009 by Adam from Trenton

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great food, great consistency, awesome staff.
  • Mediocre Pizza, not so good Chicken Cheese steaks.

“I eat here every other Friday, and more often than that if possible. A staff member and me are on a first name basis. He is very nice, and cares very much about the quality of the food that he puts out. Just the fact that the place's namesake actually answers the phone, and works there is amazing. The food is fairly priced, and so far everything I have had has been superb (and I have had mostly everything). The pizza is actually not the best in the world, but it's pretty good. Their wings are in the mid range, which is surprising, usually they are either horrible, or really good. They have the BEST cheese steaks I have seen in a while, and an amazing cheese steak on garlic bread. Hoagies are good, and made with good quality bread and meat. The salads are fantastic, especially the Antipasto. Their sides are all fantastic as well. Jalapeņo poppers are great, French fries are good, as are the Pizza fries. Cheese fries are a little lackluster, only having melted Mozzarella cheese. My favorite are the Buffalo Chicken Fingers. The sauce is great, hot but not overwhelming. Even the plain old cheeseburger is cooked perfectly, seared on the outside, and a tiny bit pink on the inside. The thing that really sets this place apart (aside from the amazingly good, and consistent food) is their speed. They always get the order right, and deliver it with blazing fast speed, almost always under 30 minutes.”

410 Bank Street Restaurant
Aug 16, 2009 by Joseph from Roselle Park

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

“Manager refused to allow me to use the handicap ramp. I was forced to get out of wheelchair with oxygen tank or no service. I have leukemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant. As a result of high dose Chemo therapy and radiation, I now have lung issues. I am forced to use a wheelchair and oxygen to survive and attempt to live somewhat normal life. I can assure you that living this way is not my first choice. I made a reservation for 7:15 pm on May 14, 2009 at the restaurant 410 Bank Street, located in Cape May, New Jersey. The restaurant was advertised as Handicapped Accessible. Upon arrival I had a problem with the manager. While I waited outside, my wife informed her that I would need to use a ramp for my power chair. She immediately became enraged and quite loudly declared no! He can't come in. If it was a manual wheelchair I would say okay but not a power chair. Aside from my extreme embarrassment by her behavior I was quite disappointed. Clearly there was a handicap ramp but she felt it was her personal discretion if someone was worthy of using it. I tried to enjoy the rest of the evening. For my trouble, manager offered to give me a free desert. I find it insulting.”

Scottys Steak House
Aug 13, 2009 by Mark from Short Hills

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food and outrageous comedy shows, fun place.
  • Sometimes we get a new server that isn't good, so now we ask for one of their seasoned staff.

“Ever since their new chef came on board a few months ago, I've become a regular since I'm always craving his Thai Salad with Calamari and Jack Daniels Filet Mignon. The food is so good now. We like going on the weekends to see their comedy shows upstairs in the Comedy Club. Our favorite shows there so far have been Angel Salazar, Bob Kelly, Rich Ramirez and Rich Vos. A few times we've taken friends there, and now they have become steady there too. After going to the show, it seems like everyone congregates around the Tiki Bar on the Patio drinking, smoking & joking. I think this place is turning into a local hangout for all the upcoming star comics. All in all it has a laid back comfortable atmosphere and everyone late at night seems to know each other. We stopped going there for a while, but I'm glad I gave it another chance. It has turned around for the better.”

Food:[10] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The Food is delicious & the Comedy Shows are absolutely the Best
  • The service needs a little improvement

“Since their new chef started a few months ago, I've become a regular there because I'm addicted to his food. The Jack Daniels Filet Mignon, Ginger Carrot Salad & Thai Specialties are my favorite. On the weekends we enjoy their Comedy Shows. Back in the Spring we watched Seymour Swan perform while Daymon Wayons sat back & laughed. Angel Salazar, Bob Kelly and Rich Vos are the best comedians I've seen there so far. After the shows are over everyone seems to congregate around their outdoor Tiki Bar Smoking and Drinking. All in all it has a very laid back comfortable atmosphere with Great Food, Okay service and the best Comedy Shows I've ever seen. They are better than the old Rascals. I also heard its turning into a hang out for all the up & coming star comedians.”

“I try the wings everywhere I go, and this place gets my top rating, because not only are the wings prepared correctly (fried, never breaded) but they have garlic sauce which is loaded with garlic and very delicious. I can't comment about the wait staff (as others have) because I generally sit at the bar. The wings are so good that after I order them I sometimes see others smell them and order the same thing.”

Izumi Japanese Steak House

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Bartender was nice and made decent drink.
  • The hotel manager not concerned about giving importance to health measures of customers.

“I tried this restaurant but I was very disappointed in the quality of way the food was prepared. I noticed that the chef had dropped the meat on the floor which was for the next hibachi table beside me. He picked it up and continued to cook on the hibachi table. I almost could not believe it happened. I did say something but they denied it happened. I called Manager over and he said he pulled it out from cooking tray. I did not want to continue to eat my meal at all. If they had been doing it right from the beginning, I would have considered that but the lack of respect for health of their clients will make me never go back there.”

The bartender always has a puss on his face, barely talks to anyone and practically throws your drink at you. Worse yet is the manager who is rude and nasty to everyone. I have no idea why the owner keeps these people who are ruining his business. This place has potential but needs some house cleaning.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nice atmosphere.
  • Worst customer service experience in many years.

“My wife and I walked into Rick's at 9 pm on Saturday evening. We both work hard all week and look forward to our Saturday night dates, even after 24 years! As we walked in, the owner opened us up with welcome, but you need to get your order in quick. This should have been our warning to get out fast! Before we sat, the waitress was putting bread and water on the table. Within 30 seconds of ordering the salad arrived. Three minutes later, as we were in the middle of eating our salads, the waitress put down our entrees, half cooked. When we told the owner how we were being treated, she said there are two sides to every story, and that the kitchen was very hot, and the staff was tired. She said we should be more understanding. We are in our early fifties, eat our several times per week, and I have to say this was the worst experience in many, years.”

Food:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Service, food, atmosphere, and prices were good.
  • Wish they had a bigger room for bigger parties.

“I had my daughter's engagement party in their dining room and it was absolutely amazing! Everyone enjoyed the warm garlic bread, tasty appetizers, the al dente pasta in real authentic Italian sauces, and the entrees all served to perfection at just the right temperature, portion size, and texture. Staff managed to serve all my 41 guests and attend to all their requests with exceptional professionalism, efficiency, and friendliness. The young man assisting her was also very sweet and attentive. I worked with them in planning my party and I must say that I've never worked with anyone so flexible and easygoing. Being very detail oriented, I valued his sincerity in wanting to meet all my requests and not worry about a thing. The dining area itself is very warm and inviting with large windows, some mirrors, and a soft decor with flowers and candles. The bathroom is very clean. And lastly, the price is right. You get plenty of food for your money. All my guests commented on the great food and service. They all asked me how I ever found this place! Thank you staff of Tony's Brothers - truly the best kept secret that I'm glad I discovered. Stop by when you're in the area, even if it's just for pizza and you'll see what I mean!”

  • LOVED the food, not a single complaint.
  • The ambience's needs a little work, but who cares when the food is delicious.

“We went to Nonna's in July 2009 after passing it on the street and we were VERY happy with our meal! Having no idea what to expect, we were a little put off by the entrance door (no windows, doesn't look like an entrance at all), and upon entering the restaurant at 7:30pm on a Friday night, we were one of only a couple tables. We were nervous that we'd made the wrong choice; we couldn't even smell food cooking. But miraculously we had a wonderful waiter, fantastic service, and delicious food. Get the lobster ravioli if you're into seafood, there are huge amounts of lobster meat in large ravioli! The owner is a wonderful man who will chat with you about the specials for the evening and you can tell he knows his menu very well. Help make this restaurant flourish by dining with them; it's too good to be almost empty on a Friday night.”

Rusty Nail Bar And Grill
Jul 9, 2009 by Danielle from Cape May

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[4] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The sand pit, colors, interior design.
  • Everything else!

“I used to love going to the Nail! I saw it was open a couple days ago so I decided to stop by my old stomping ground. That was my biggest mistake! It is now owned by Cape Resorts Group (same people who own Congress Hall and many others). Didn't have half the items on the menu, loud arguments in the kitchen, slow service. The list could go on. Everything just seemed to be very chaotic and unorganized. First and last time going there!”

Soonja's Cafe With Sushi
Jul 7, 2009 by Sean from Plainsboro

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Good sushi.
  • Bad ramen.

“Sushi is fairly good for the price at least. However, there ramen leaves much to be desired. The Salmon Miso Rament taste extremely bland. The miso stock is very diluted. Miso ramen should be rich in the miso flavor and I did not find any miso taste until the last bit of soup. Not worth nearly $10. The ramen itself is a grade above instant, but no where near what true ramen should taste like. It lacks any firmness whatsoever. The entire meal just seemed tasteless. The sushi on the other hand is pretty good, definitely the best bang for the buck in the area. For over that Sushi Palace will offer better value with their AYCE.”

Di Mattias Restaurant
Jul 6, 2009 by Secret Reviewer from NYC

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Waitress was very nice.
  • Owner/chef provided horrible service.

“First visit to restaurant. Nice looking place with a friendly waitress who seated us and took our order of two cheeseburgers. Now in all fairness, no one asked how we wanted our burgers cooked nor did we specify we wouldn't like them burnt to a crisp. The two burgers arrived at the table with all of the things one might like on a burger. They looked great except one was cooked perfectly medium and the other burnt (way past well-done). Just so we're clear. So well done that the charred burger no longer resembled meat inside or out. Now, being from a restaurant owning family, I know that these things can happen. It was not a big deal. So when the waitress returned, we simply asked if it was possible to get one cooked closer to medium. The gracious waitress said no problem and disappeared. 5 minutes later she came back with a message from the chef/owner, "He said, you should have said how you wanted it cooked." A little inappropriate but again, fair enough. And had both burgers came out the same way, we would have understood that this chef believes in extremely well done burgers, but they did not. We apologized for our oversight, demonstrated the difference between the two burgers and asked if it was possible to get one cooked like the medium burger. She saw the difference, acknowledged one was burnt and took the burnt burger into the kitchen. Another 5 minutes go by and the waitress, now completely embarrassed says, "I'm so sorry. He said he will not make you another burger". Shocked, we asked why. To which she replies, "He said it will only come out the same way." And that was it. No offer of something else, no apologies, no customer service whatsoever. The owner's mantra seems to be. "This is how I cook. Eat it, or get out! "To add to our experience, while we were waiting for our change, we overheard the waitress telling another table they only had one and a half racks of ribs in the kitchen. Mind you, we were there before the dinner rush and I use the word rush with optimism. There are other establishments in Allentown. I would highly suggest supporting one that actually appreciates your business. Its as easy as walking across the street - which is what we will do from now on.”

Jakeabobs Bay, Inc
Jun 30, 2009 by Susan from Aberdeen

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[1] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Nice ocean view.
  • Smoking, low food quality and overpriced.

“They allow smoking outside, both on the deck and in the outdoor bar. Well then, except for the view, why would I subject myself to smoke and lousy food that's way over priced? This place either needs to step up it's food quality (including less than popular food selections), service and smoking policy (which is illegal anyway, but the township apparently doesn't care). Off my list of decent outdoor eateries.”

Dominic's Tavern Inc
Jun 29, 2009 by Colin from Haddonfield

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The service, the pizza.
  • Uninteresting beer selection.

“Domenick's was recently recommended to me, but the previous reviews raised doubts. I went anyway and am happy to report that the service was very fast and attentive, so perhaps the owners did take notice. It is half dining area, half bar, an open layout that is pleasant. The food, once extolled, is fine, but my partner observed that it is all the sort of food that comes frozen. So if you want home-cooking, this is probably not your place. But the prices are very good, everything seems fine and competent, and I must say I very much enjoyed the pizza, it's a cut above expectations. I'll go again.”
