User Reviews for Michigan Restaurants« Go back to Sharjah HotelsResearch User Reviews for Michigan (1-20 of 883)White Horse Restaurant & Tav
“I've been to the White Horse many times during my trips to Flint, and find it to be a great lunch or "pub-grub" dinner place. The pizza is probably the best in Flint, and is a special value on 1/2 price nights. It can be a little noisy, and it does seem that there are singles there "looking" in the evening (this can be a plus or minus, depending on who you are). For lunch and happy hour, it's filled with a variety of clientele, mostly from the nearby courthouse (e.g., lawyers and judges) as well as other professionals and blue collar workers alike. I wouldn't take kids there, but otherwise, I highly recommend the White Horse if you're in the mood for this kind of experience.”

“We actually stumbled across this place when we are aiming to eat at the Subway across the street. The food there was very good. There were four of us, we all ordered something different and we were all satisfied without meal. I also liked the senior pictures from what I'm guessing is the local high school on the walls. Also worth noting, the bathrooms in this place are clean. To me, this makes or breaks a restaurant experience. If you're stopping through on your way to anywhere along I94, I highly recommend stopping here. It'll be a great story, telling your friends about the time you ate at a restaurant called Shingle Diggins.”

“Now under new management. I sampled the food and service at a private opening dinner. Same sunset views on the water, decor is refreshed, menu is outstanding and priced right. Chefs worked in top Manhattan restaurants and it shows. Opening to public in mid November 2009.”

“Same family for over 70 years! My 70 year old father had his first beer there at the bar. I am in my 40's and have been going there since birth. First place my own children ever had a French fry. The legacy lives on for another generation! The best pizza and spaghetti you can get anywhere! Great fish fries on Friday too.”

“Quite si, If you want to taste a real pasty, this is the place to go, period. I've been stopping at Toni's on my way through the Keewenaw for years and you will not find a better pasty anywhere! This is a small, no-frills establishment, but that's exactly what makes them great. You don't visit the U.P. to be dazzled by 5-star restaurants, you go to eat at places like this. If you have any doubts, just stop by there at any time during the day and you'll see why. It's almost always filled with locals who appreciate the good stuff. Their recipe is traditional, but their preparation is a closely guarded secret and that's why they might be emulated but never equaled. My wife and I have tried pasties all across the Upper Peninsula and northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, but Toni's simply cannot be outdone. My inlaws' family is originally from Calumet and have been going to Toni's for years and years and we'll be going there for as long as the oven is working. They'll even prepare an order for you if you call ahead. Great folks!”

“They have some Subs that about 2 feet long and much better than Subway for $10 bucks. They also make a really good BBQ Chicken Pizza.”

“The food all tasted the same to me. Like there was a big vat of sauce, and little variations to the sauce depending on the food. Its not bad, but don't eat it as leftovers. It tastes funny and some of the sauce becomes gelatinous.”

“I've been going to Michelle's for many years and was very disappointed with my last visit this week. The new hostess was rude and my waitress was unavailable most of the time. The menu has also changed and many of my favorite items are no longer available. This will be my last visit there.”

“The food is wonderful. The Manager and her staff is great. While I was in Sutton's Bay for three months I got to know the people there and had a wonderful time. I really hated to say good-bye, but will return there as soon as possible. I would recommend Bonnes Prime Time Pub to anyone going through Sutton's Bay.”

“I went in for dinner with my wife and mother. My wife ordered onion soup. When it arrived it was absolutely inedible due to being dangerously salty. The waitress was summoned and the soup sent back and a cup of Bean ordered. The bean was okay but tasted like watered down Campbell's Bean which had been somewhat doctored up. The bill came to almost $17 for the following: Chicken sandwich with a few Tator tots on the side, cup of Bean soup, bowl of Bean soup, one diet Pepsi and we were also charged for the soup sent back. I'd not recommend or return to this restaurant. Atmosphere reminds one of a Greyhound bus station eatery! The soups were disgusting and management should get on the ball and start tasting the stuff they're sending out to the customers!”

“Gar's has a separate section of their bar/restaurant that is non-smoking which is where we go all the time, but also has the traditional bar/smoking area that's the perfect setting for your small-town night on the town. The burgers are huge and delicious, and the fries and onion rings are always cooked perfectly - not soggy, not burned, just crispy and great! Seating is somewhat limited and the turn around is not that quick, but if you get there early enough or later than the rush, there's no problems sitting down.”

“Traveling for business and I run into yet another over priced Italian meal. Someone should open a Fazoli's, cheap Italian food, all you can eat bread sticks. This place was a big waste of my time. I had to apologize to everybody for bringing them here and not to Burger King.”

“The Ravioli tasted bad, the prices were too high for poor food and stuck up service. I can't believe the Casa can stay open with there stuck up attitudes. The food is not even good. I will never go there again.”

“Worst steak in the world got a raw steak when I asked for medium well, we found it not edible. We complained 10 minutes later when our waitress could finally be flagged down and had to argue with the manager to get 1/2 off of a steak I had 3 bites of. I then wrote them an email the next day, and the owner told me that we were demanding and demeaning. I only asked for half off of the steak and my mushrooms for free, seeing they were ice cold. This place does no wrong, they can't cook a steak to save their lives. Worst meal I have ever had and the rudest most arrogant employees I have ever met in my life. Do not eat here, you would be better off using there parking lot and walking across the street to Jimmy Johns and getting a sub.”

“Our party of 8 went for a business luncheon. We had one hour to eat. After 50 minutes, our order still was not served. Waitress was not problem, kitchen is not efficient in handling business luncheons for size larger than 2. Other tables around us were served before us, even though they entered restaurant 30 minutes after us. Don't go there unless you have time to spare for waiting.”

“The food creativity is wonderful. One of the best Mac and Cheese dishes I've had anywhere - globally! The wait staff was non-existent, the bartender was rushed / running / sweaty - I purposely did not go to the local Dive Bar up the street - seems like I should have? This place must be like game or a novelty to the owners as there is no real focus on the customer - only on atmosphere: newer building built as a turn-of-the-century structure, 12 or so micro-brewed tap beers, tidy and very nicely appointed dining area, however, the chairs / stools in the bar area were falling apart and wobbly to the point of dangerous. While I was there, two tables came in - and left prior to getting served (20 minutes waiting for a waiter). The beer selection was varied but mediocre in quality - the bartender ill-knowledgeable on the taste / flavor / styles. This was a festival weekend too. Maybe it is not necessary to ensure transient patrons are served well? The people seemed like they wanted to help - like they were genuine - but were over-worked as there were not enough on-staff and did not know enough about the products. The manager sat at the bar texting - it's good to be king! Good potential - poor management - which flows down to the lack of knowledge of the staff and the survival mode they are put in with too little of them to go around - and it flows into this unhappy customer. Pity.”

“We live locally and have been coming here for a number of years. The staff is accommodating, friendly and greets us by name. The food is excellent value for the price (which is reasonable) and is family owned and operated. We love the atmosphere (which is romantic) and have never heard them play anything other than fine Italian music. They also have great Cannolis. They are also very good with larger groups and take reservations for parties over 6. It is definitely a must for the out-of town traveler who wants to go where the locals dine.”

“Friday August 21, 2009 during Danish Festival for lunch. We live in Greenville so we are aware that everyone raises their prices at this time to get as much as possible from visitors and locals alike. Well my wife ordered a deluxe hamburger with extra tomato. When we got the bill we were charged 99 cents 3 times for the three slices of tomato on the hamburger This is terrible. She did not even get free tomato with the burger, nor was she advised it would cost a dollar a slice for each slice of tomato in the burger. I could buy 3 lbs of tomatoes for that price (about 1/2 sliced tomato). Is this right! This is not how you treat your supporters, friends, customers and expect them to come back again. I am very disappointed in the way we were treated and how we were charged with even being told the costs until too late. She never would have gotten extra tomato if she knows this. Where was her tomato that comes with the burger? Did she have to pay for that, too? There were four of us together and believe me they were taken aback also. Is it that necessary for Huck's to raise its prices for Danish? You gain a few bucks, but lose your customers. Take a hint from Down Home, they kept their regular prices and charged more for specials. They were crowded all the time. You can hardly find a seat on Sundays each and every week. Their prices are good, food good, and although the first place failed, this one is extremely successful. What's their secret?”

“As a Quasi - Hollander, by marriage and frequent visits to the city, my wife and me are well acquainted with good places to grab dinner. Lackluster service, at least from our waitress, mixed with bad food created a rather big disappointment for what are usually great culinary experiences when we visit. If you chose to drop in, skip the Carbonara and opt instead for the baked spaghetti pie. Otherwise, expect a bland flavor from the house Alfredo (so skip some of the other dishes with this base sauce) and an after-taste you cannot quite place but just won't go away fast enough. Well, I am off to try and fix the food I brought home with or on second thought I am going to eat the reminder of my wife's meal which she really enjoyed!”

“First impressions walking in the door is that this is an okay restaurant. The tables are close together, there isn't much walking room. We get seated, with our two little boys and the waitress was right there. She was pretty attentive throughout our visit. We order our food from a menu with lots of choices (I like that). They are known for their rib, so I ordered ribs and shrimp (Cayjun style), my husband ordered a Stuffed Wet Burrito. Quite possibly the best meal I have eaten at a restaurant - ever! The ribs were spectacular, tender, moist, fall off the bone. The shrimp were hands down better than anything I've ever had at a restaurant. My husbands dinner was incredible too. The stuffed wet burrito was huge, it filled the plate. He could only eat half of it. It had lots of flavor and spice - AWESOME! My oldest boy ordered their children's fish. Obviously that was great too because he finished his plate, which he rarely does, and he didn't say a peep through the whole meal. Generally he talks non-stop. The other one, ordered chicken, but he was too busy making paper airplanes with the lady sitting next to us, he couldn't finish his meal, so we brought it home for lunch.”

“The food and service are adequate, but it is the live band that really makes the place worth a visit! The jazz band plays every other Sunday and they are fantastic! The drummer is an 80-year-old woman and she just blows your mind. The banjo player was extraordinary! There is a pretty decent dance floor. Do yourself a favor and check this place out some Sunday when this band is playing. You won't be sorry.”

“I love this place. They offer all sorts of things from ice cream to hot dogs and slushes. They are small but cozy. They have outdoor seating only but also offer a drive through window. The prices are nice and cheap and the servings are very decent sizes. Go there; I promise you won't be disappointed.”

“10 of us walked-in politely, quietly and were seated immediately. We ordered cocktails and a pitcher of beer for the adults and 3 sodas for the kids. Our friend's child has diabetes and brought his own can of diet pink lemonade because restaurants usually only have diet cola which has caffeine. As we were about to order the waitress told us we couldn't bring and outside drink in. I tried to subtly tell her (without drawing attention to our friend's son) that he has special dietary needs and if necessary we could just pour the drink in a cup. The waitress stormed off in a huff just saying she couldn't allow this. I chose to ignore this and we were about to order (what probably would have amounted to well over $150 in food and drink) when the owner/manager came over and made a very public issue over us brining in an outside drink. He said we could be trying to smuggle in booze. For crying out load, the child was drinking it when he said this! Again I tried to quietly reason with this person but he kept loudly objecting and further singling out our friend's son. At this point I simply asked for the check for the drinks we had ordered and we left. We went down the road to the Daily Limit on Grand Lake and had a fantastic dinner and excellent service from our waitress. By the way, we asked her if we could bring in a drink and she obliged by bringing us a cup with ice. We wound up spending over $160 and left her a nice tip. Too bad Kelly's Venture Inn thinks they have enough money to rudely turn away legitimate business. I would never recommend these rude people to anyone!”

“A simple breakfast of 2 eggs, bacon and coffee for three people cost $31.00 (toast was not included, because it is extra). When questioned, the manager said the coffee was charged at 1 pot per person. We had 2 cups of regular and 1 of decaf. There were 2 pots on the table (one regular, one decaf), yet we were charged for three.”

“Brown Bear was and always has been AWESOME! Best burgers ANYWHERE and we live in Chicago and have access to some of the best food anywhere. I've never had their roast beef sub (but who orders roast beef sub sandwiches at Brown Bear anyway. It's a burger joint. Duh) Anyway beats the best of the best, hands down! And those seasonal soups during asparagus season the fresh Wisconsin cheddar-asparagus was to absolutely die for. Always our first stop in Michigan. I will ALWAYS.”

“The best Pizza on the planet, period! No other pizza maker can match the thickness, texture and hint of sweetness in the dough parlayed with the sauce that has just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. “Finally a restaurant in a tourist town that knows about service and how to be friendly to travelers. The food was the best we found in the area (Darrows was recommended and good, too, but was too much a Grey hair hangout for us). The pizza palace servers were good even though the place was really busy (a Saturday night) and the pizza is really the best we've had anywhere. One of the owners actually asked us for our suggestions on anything and also said they make dough and sauce every day. We used the pizza sauce to dip our appetizers its that good. We were surprised to see so much variety, its not just pizza, they, ribs, chicken, steak salads, on and on. We'll definitely be back our next trip.”
