• The waitress was tired.
• Marginal food and very bad ambiance.

“I can easily say this was one of the two worst restaurant experiences I've had in 5 years, the other being in Santa Fe New Mexico. On entering the foyer, you were greeted with a pile of dirty dishes in the foyer left of the door. The windows were dirty, including bird poop on ours. The window sill was covered in crumbs. There was a spider web directly over my wife's head. They do not have a wine list. After a long wait, we were brought four bottles of wine to pick from. The first wine glasses were received were tiny, seemingly for chocolate mousse and they were dirty. We sent them back and despite appropriate wine glasses being on the other tables, we didn't get any. The chicken roll was overcooked and I only ate half of it. The salad served on plates was too small and only 2 dressings were available. All around us, tables were left with dirty dishes and one table was even served their dirt before their dirty dishes were cleared. The menu, which was leather enclosing a sheet of paper, was stained. We tipped our waitress well, because she tried to serve. We were offered free desserts, but just wanted to leave. This kitchen was badly run. And the overall impression when you enter the restaurant, from floors that needed sanding years ago, to sad tired furniture, gives a feeling that there was so much dirt you wouldn't want to see what goes on in the kitchen. This time, we truly never will go back and cannot recommend this restaurant.”

• Not putting fries in the bag with the above combo.

“Most every time I've ordered from this place, I have failed to receive it correctly. From wrongfully dressing sandwiches to neglecting to put fries in the bag when ordering a combo, they somehow repeatedly do it wrong! It's fast food people! It only takes a little bit of thought to get it right! How sad it is that this chain's reputation as a decent establishment be tainted by this location.”

“I was not impressed. The portions were extremely small and the price was over the top for a lunch special. A small bowl of Chicken & dumplings, A small bowl of greens, mac & cheese and potato salad, 1 biscuit and an Ice Tea for $11.00. The food was so, so. The service was friendly. I'd give it a 4 out of 10 and I won't go back. I can eat at KFC, the food is as good and the buffet.”

“Although the menu and hours are very limited, it's a great place for a fresh and unique lunch with excellent service. Most often many of the 40 seats are filled. Menu carries about ten salad or sandwich entrees with a daily special hot dish and salad bar. The chicken salad dishes are excellent! It is painted a bright white inside, very clean and open feeling. The next time I'm Paducah I will definitely plan my itinerary so as to hit the 11-2 weekday time slot here.”

“Don't go to this restaurant if you need handicapped accessibility. My son is in a wheelchair, we were directed to this establishment we walked all the way there, and then found there were steps to go down to get into the restaurant. He waited outside while I went in, and stood waiting for someone to acknowledge me, so I could ask if we could get in or not. When someone finally did let me ask, I was directed (not shown)to go down the side of the building past one door to some other door. We started to do this, and could not find the side door, not could we get any further because the whole sidewalk was blocked with several boxes and garbage cans. Shame on this restaurant Thought we were in 2000's not the 1970's when we don't make accommodations for the handicapped!”

“This is the most disgusting place I can think of! Gaudy experience to get, homemade grits is beyond my comprehension. Give me a break! How hard is it to make a pan of grits? It's just water, salt, butter and water and you add the grits! This place is not worth the trouble of finding a parking spot.”

• It's still one of the nicest places to go in town.
• But, even with the doors closed to Jack's it felt like I was sitting in the bar!

• Beautiful decor.
• All sorts of things, but I think service takes the cake.

“Upon arriving at Rumors, my group and I were impressed with the decor; when we saw a sign stating there was karaoke going on, I found myself thinking, "Yeah, this is probably hip. "I was mistaken. My group and I walked in, were required to seat ourselves, and then waited 20+ minutes for service while our waiter enjoyed a leisurely meal. Mind you, there were about five other people in the (deserted) restaurant and we had come at a reasonable dinner hour. While we waited, we had ample time to peruse the menu which included many overpriced entries and appetizers. So we walked away.”

“At alfalfa you will always receive a smile and some good, home-made food. nothing comes pre-packaged. It has an eclectic menu that anyone can find something they like. brunch is a little crazy, you will probably have to wait to be seated, but the cinnamon swirl French toast is well worth the wait. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, or carnivore, you will find something good!”

• I'm not a smoker, so the cigarette smoke does bother me. However, the food is so good I overlook it!

“I've been going to Charlie's since I was a young girl (over 30 years ago) growing up in KY. Al of the food at Charlie's is excellent - steaks, burgers, chicken, etc. but of course, the steaks are top-notch. I even get cravings for their salad - YUM! Now that I live in the Nashville-area, we still meet friends and family at Charlie's for special occasions, and enjoy introducing a whole new generation of our family to the great food at Charlie's. It opens at 4:00 pm, so get in line. If you're not there at 4:00, you'll have to wait a while to get in, but it's well worth the wait.”

“A Hazard in Hazard! I hadn't been to a Cliff Hagan Restaurant for some time. Now I remember why. The service was very good and I tipped the waitress at 20% because I felt sorry for her working hard and serving sub-par food. My wife and I both got the 8oz filet, which is not a filet; it was the rib-eye portion of the rib-eye steak. Between the two filets there was more waste to the two steaks than good. If I add to guess, of the 16oz between the two, we left 10oz on the plate of fat and grissel. Meal turned out to be worse than, an all you can eat, steakhouse meal. The server avoided asking if the steak was good, satisfactory, or anything else. By the look on her face, it didn't appear to be abnormal. The facility was clean and the salad bar, which I normally avoid in the cold and flu season, was clean and well keep. The baked potato was very good. After our meal there we went to Giovanni's Pizza just down the street and spent $12.00 for a great pizza. My recommendation, get the pizza!”

“We brought my mom (from the nursing home) there as a birthday get together the summer before she passed away. Our whole family and her close friends got to come. The nursing home drove my mom there (due to her wheel chair and our inability to load it and her into our vehicle). It was such a nice time, she had all her kids, grandkids, sister and friends there. The food was very good, the servers went out of their way to make it a pleasant party. I wish there was a Ponderosa Steakhouse here in Marshall! By the way, love the sweet and saucy French dressing!”

“This place is a great small town, family owned restaurant with great food and great service. Everyone there seems to know everyone else, and if you are a stranger passing through, you are just as welcome. In fact, if you are a stranger passing through someone there is still bound to have met you somewhere sometime long ago! The restaurant has been around since before I was born and it is a staple in Dayton, Kentucky. They aren't a chain and they don't sell chain foods. They are one of the last of a dying breed of small hometown restaurants. A GREAT place to sit, relax and eat.”

“I love the cheese bread that they have on the buffet. It was wonderful this time I visited. The last time was a totally different experience. I would really love to return to this restaurant. The pizza and overall was good. The lines were not long and the cashier was very helpful to me. I will be back.”

“I was totally disappointed with my visit. Do not let the outside appearance fool you. The food is terrible & extremely overpriced. They charged $8 for tuna salad as an appetizer. We were also charged extra for sides. Not to mention we had to seat ourselves and waited 45 min for our food (no crowd). The food is very generic and thrown together. There is nothing about this place that screams restaurant quality. The only positive aspects were the drink selections. Good place to get drink but please eat before you go”

• Skip the chicken salad. Too heavy on the sweet pickles.

“Great menu, great prices, friendly service. Delta serves Mexican and American cuisine as well as a variety of sandwiches (fried fish, chicken salad, club.) and they offer low crab options and healthier choices. The building is really wonderful. It looks like an old Italian restaurant on the inside, like something you'd find in New York. Not sure about it being family friendly. The lighting is dim and it's a quiet restaurant. I went during the week for a business lunch so there weren't any children, but they do serve hamburgers and fries so there would be menu items that kids would eat. Prices were very inexpensive compared to a lot of restaurants. I would recommend and will definitely go back.”

• Very slow service for groups of 10 or more.

“Food is average/good for this type restaurant. Have been to this one several times both with large groups as well as just a couple. I refuse to ever go there again as a large group as a 1 hour lunch turns into a 2.5 hour lunch because they take so long to get orders out and splitting up checks etc. Dining as a couple everything took as long as it was supposed to. Servers are friendly, just slow.”

“We went to DeShay's last week for lunch. It was not great at all, or good either for that matter. I could normally have 2 of those with lunch, but stopped after one and ordered water. For lunch I had the French Onion soup, which was greasy, but pretty tasty. I split the crab cake and deep fried peppers with my husband. The crab cakes were disappointing in that they were bland and the fried peppers were very unappetizing because they were not very warm by the time I got them. Our server was friendly enough, but not outstanding. The decor is dark and kind of creepy. I did not care for the stuffed and mounted fox that was in the dining area, it looked dirty. For all of the fuss that is made about this place, I expected more.”

“As a cross country traveler, I eat at this restaurants, in many states, with regularity. This is by far, the very worst I have experienced anywhere (I have visited this location twice now). Lousy service and food and an unkempt atmosphere. It appears it is not managed well at all, and someone needs to inquire about the legal status of most of the employees as well.”

“I just had dinner at Karlos 6 pm 8/16/08. I just happened to have my camera in my purse. When my appetizer arrived. I could not resist taking a picture it was so beautiful! My dinner was delicious. Just great. The service was great. We hadn't been to Karlos for a number of years and it seems to have improved greatly during that time.”
