“Honestly, I have no idea what the person beneath my comment is talking about. I go there at least 3 times a week after work. I never be in there for more then 5 minutes. I feel like family there. They are unbelievably friendly. The food is great. I could honestly say that it is my favorite place to go and eat. They were voted Best Italian Deli in the Best of the West issue of West Suburban Living by the people.”

Bill's Pizza & Pub, Inc.
Oct 13, 2009 by Mike from Mundelein

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great Pizza, Peanut Shells on the floor, feels like a cabin in the woods.
  • If you're in PETA, you won't be a fan of the decorum.

“If you have never been to Bill's, their signature is the big basket of peanuts you get when you dine in. The deal is, the shells just go on the floor. Their pizza is amazing, but a little pricey. Bill's has been in Mundelein for years, and it's definitely the trademark restaurant of the area. Very long bar if you want to watch a football game, but it's more of a dimly lit family place. Everything is made of dark wood or stained glass, with a couple of big tables by the fireplace.”

Pizza Hut
Oct 13, 2009 by Mike from Mundelein

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[8] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great service, and only drivers around able to find my house.
  • Pan Pizza was a bit greasy, and 1 hour+ delivery time on football nights.

“Though you've probably tried it before, the service is what makes this one stand apart. Tasty Pizza is a given, though the pan is a bit on the greasy side. They have a large dining room able to accommodate big parties at short notice. More a family atmosphere than romantic, but on a slow night you can grab a corner booth and have some privacy. They have an accommodating staff, who once made me a half well-done Pizza. Generous toppings, and if anything is wrong, they're quick to fix it. Very cute waitresses and managers are a plus too.”

Taco & Burrito Express
Oct 13, 2009 by Mike from Mundelein

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Free chips and tasty Salsa for every table.
  • The re-fried Beans were greasy.

“If you want Nachos, go to the County Fair, this restaurant has tasty authentic Mexican food. Although it's not a large classy place, it's a good spot for a casual lunch or dinner. It seems like a family-owned place, as I've seen the same waitresses there for years. It feels like a small sit-down hot dog place, but Mexican. Nothing expensive or crazy, but good food for the price. I suggest the King Burrito dinner.”

Royal Catonese
Oct 13, 2009 by Mike from Mundelein

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Try the Green Leaves, and you'll love their Steak Cantonese.
  • Dishes don't come as per descriptions in the menu.

“Hands down the best Chinese I have ever eaten. My favorite restaurant in Mundelein. Beef in hot Garlic Sauce is my favorite dish, but try the Green Leaves. My family has been trying to duplicate them at home since we first tried them 15 years ago, but they're original. Rotating table platters for family style, and a few intimate booths for romance. Cheap lunch specials, a great time to try their pork fried rice if you never have. Carry out around 10 bucks a head, dining in 20 - 25, more if you're drinking, but the food is worth it.”

“I agree 100% with Chuck from Crystal Lake. And yes, the fillet is inexpensive and tasty. A lot of food for the money. We also had the fried chicken. They have an all you can eat at night. Service is great and the staff is hometown friendly. The ambiance is dated but, I think that makes it quaint. Oh, beer usually comes in cans, if you're so inclined.”

Stans Steakhouse
Oct 5, 2009 by Catherine from Bloomington, IL

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Worth the drive for a great steak!
  • Atmosphere could be improved.

“After last year's experience with limited restaurant selection, poor quality food, and crowded conditions during EIU Family Weekend at Mattoon/Charleston, IL, I was determined to find something better. I was willing to drive and found Stan's Steakhouse in Findley. What a find! It is located in a very small rural community. The 30 minutes drive through the rural darkness made my 19 year old son question my sanity. However, all that changed when his rib eye and crab legs were served. I chose prime rib and grilled shrimp and my 16 year old had a rib eye. All were very tender, well prepared, and tasty. My sons enjoyed waffle fries and my baked potato was quite good. The shrimp were smaller than I expected, but nicely seasoned. The wait staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. She recommended pie for dessert and my sons took her recommendation. Both were pleased. The peach pie had flaky with plenty of sweet peaches. The chocolate cream was superior. The 16 year old savored every bite and only gave his brother one small bite. Both agreed it tasted like hot chocolate with fresh whipped cream.”

Hooters
Sep 30, 2009 by Jamie Botcelli from Troy

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Buffalo Chicken Sandwich hot with provolone cheese is the best.
  • Worst place overall, I've ever eaten.

“The girls are rude. Their rule about making them sit down and talk with you is annoying. I wouldn't call this a family oriented place. They make it fun for kids but, the place is so tacky that I would never want my little kids to be around trashy people like that. The restaurant isn't good for travelers because it is hard to find. It is placed in a very odd area. The value isn't worth your money. Drinks are almost $3.00 and fries are almost $4.00. They have nothing of any nutritional value there. It is just an addition to the world's obesity problem. I had the worst service ever. The girls just stand around and talk to each other, and when you need something they look at you like your dumb.”

Eduardo's
Sep 13, 2009 by NIUBooster from Thomson, Illinois

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[6] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great ambiance & excellent service.
  • Food was mediocre at best.

“A recent first time visit found Eduardo's to be a very clean, romantic and spacious restaurant with an extremely friendly staff. The food was a bit disappointing. My Fiesta fajitas were overdone and dry. There were 3 times as many onions and peppers as there was meat & shrimp. The guacamole, cheese and sour cream was served over a large bed of shredded lettuce in a boat type dish, leaving one to believe that there was more condiments than met the eye. Overall, the food is mediocre at best. I'll go back and try another dish.”

Last Chance Saloon
Sep 10, 2009 by cutiemoose from Lake Villa

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • A great place for locals meeting their friends for a drink.
  • Mediocre food, thoughtless service, nothing to draw in a stranger.

“Unfortunately this was my first visit, and I wasn't at all at home. Too bad the food wasn't great. The Swiss Cheese on our burger was certainly the white flavorless sliced block you can buy at GFS. Not a hint of Swiss flavor, just a light color. The first on-tap beer my hubby ordered was downright terrible, although it had been recommended. The recommended home-made blue cheese dressing was nothing to speak of. The cheese was a cheap grade floating in a bland white sauce. Any of us can do better by finding a recipe online. All in all the food isn't worth going. The staff isn't worth going. But if you live in Gray Slake and your friends are hanging there. You'll love it.”

Sidetrack Inn
Sep 3, 2009 by Chuck from Crystal Lake, Il

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Highly recommended.
  • Can't think of any.

“A little hole in the wall off the beaten path. The restaurant is part of a bar which is divided by a wall, so family is fine. Probably set up for locals. Prices are wonderful, $15.95 for a fillet and all you can eat specials on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Check the days that they are open. I rated the atmosphere a 7. I will admit it is was very clean and comfortable. We ordered their special Grinder Burger and the soup of the day. This was probably one of the top five burgers I have ever had. We could have made a meal of the soup, it was wonderful. The special of the day was Pepper Steak and rice and those that had it raved on it. To really add to the flavor of the place, there were three horses tied to the hitching post outside while their owners were inside eating. I grabbed a photo which I hope to add to this review. I programmed this place into my GPS. We plan on having lunch when we go back home and will certainly return when we come back to Galena. Lastly, don't pass on the homemade apple pie a-la-mode. Summary: We had two huge loaded burgers, three drinks (soda), two large soups, fries and apple pie with 2 scoops of vanilla, $23.00 plus tip.”

Silvercreek
Aug 31, 2009 by Sara from Urbana

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[8] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The food (if you get what your order) is great!
  • Service.

“I visited Silver Creek for a happy hour event (half-priced drinks and appetizers). After having eaten at the restaurant a couple of times before for dinner, we arrived for happy hour at 5:30 and finally waited on (i.e. given water) at about 6pm and were able to order about 6:15. Once we ordered, our waitress returned to tell us that the half-price deals were over at 6pm and since it was 6:15 we could no longer take advantage of this special. Had we been able to order soon after we arrived, this would not have been a problem. Once our food did arrive, it was not what we ordered and some of it was cold. Typically, this restaurant has good food, but the service is horrible. The waitresses in the greenhouse (where we were seated) acted like we were inconveniencing them if we asked for anything (like silverware!). We will not be returning.”

“This is definitely a place to make a ritual at least once a week. Their portions are HUGE, their prices are very inexpensive, they are faster than any restaurant I have ever been to, the food is DELICIOUS, and the owner and waitresses are by far the friendliest I have ever been around. They get busy on weekends, but the tables turn over fairly quickly, I am assuming since the service is so quick. I always look forward to my weekends, so I can take that 40 minute drive to eat at Yannis. I also heard they just opened up a location in Momence not too long ago!”

“I have frequented this restaurant for over 10 years now. The taste of the food is amazing! Their best dishes in my opinion are Basil Fried Rice (Beef), Tom Yum Noodle Soup (Thai style with ground chicken, Basil Chicken (Thai style), and Pad Kee Mao with Beef. Over the years the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have increased. But still one of the better Thai restaurants in terms of taste in town.”

“Best pizza ever, period. We travel to Savanna once a month just to eat at Manny's, a two hour drive. We also bring home about 20 frozen pizzas from each trip. The sauce is amazing, and the crust is thin, making it possible to eat so much! If you love mushrooms, you will love their mushroom pizza. They load their mushroom pizzas with tons of mushrooms! I also love the attached bar and small arcade room for the kids. I would strongly recommend Manny's Pizza to everyone.”

Chinns 34th Street Fishery
Jul 20, 2009 by Seafood Lover from Naperville, Illinois

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • King Crab on Mondays - Can't beat the price or quality!
  • Ask for melted butter instead of the butter/oil mixture they give you for crab.

“I wanted a sloppy, sweet, blender drink from the bar. The waitress suggested their Pina Colada. The drink was just what the doctor ordered & the size was a value at $6.00. We ordered iced tea & it was perfectly brewed. Not warm or bitter, not too strong, & not too weak with ample ice. The garlic rolls come drizzled with a helping of warm, freshly minced garlic cloves, butter, & herbs. The house salad had fresh cold crisp greens (not warm, limp or with that old lettuce stink that even some of the best restaurants can't seem to avoid), cucumbers (crisp, not soggy with the centers fallen out), tomatoes (meaty & fresh tasting, not mealy, bruised or green & hard), hearty red onion (sweet like it should be, not hot like a pepper that burns your tongue as they often are), & my favorite, black olives that tasted like black olives (ripe colossal ones, not sliced, & not tasting like a can or a chemical). I noticed what looked like clarified butter, but it was a mix of butter & oil. I asked instead for some plain melted butter, which has a bit more salt taste (complimenting the crab). The crab was steaming hot (not room temp. or on the verge of downright cold). The shell was rock-hard & fresh (not soggy or rubbery as is the case at some places). The meat alone was delicious. Maybe a dip here or there in the butter or a drop of lemon to switch it up in between bites of delectable naked sweet crab. He said his blackened salmon tasted terrific but was a bit on the mushy side. Possibly over-cooked or a softer-fleshed breed of Salmon. The green beans were at the peak of freshness (not pre-frozen), they were cooked to perfection. Same goes for the carrots & zucchini in the mix. There was a small side of sweet Cole Slaw. Among all the decadent desert choices, the waitress mentioned they had coconut cake which wasnt on the menu. We opted for a slice & 2 forks. Coconut cake is one of my prized favorites. I was looking forward to tasting Chinns version of it. Holy smokes! This is the stuff they must serve in Heaven. Completely tasted as though it was just baked by hand - by someone with a lot of loving! Then the waitress confirmed that in fact a little lady bakes deserts fresh for them daily, right there in the kitchen! It had thick layers of some kind of whipped cream & Heaven, which had a light, refreshing flavor, allowing the flaked coconut to do the talking. This was a cake youd find at one of your better weddings. In fact, the waitress added that, The coconut cake, & any of Chinns other fresh baked deserts can be baked to order for just such an event. P.S. When youre dealing with sloppy butter-fingers, it is a must to have a pile of thick absorbent napkins (which they give you right off, & really theyre more like paper towels which do the trick). Those other re-usable/washable polyester fabric napkins may look great, but only serve to move messy food around, rather than removing it from your digits. As if that all wasnt wonderful enough, at meals end we were treated to oversized, sturdy, hot, moist disposable finger towels, wrapped in sterile plastic sleeves with just a pleasant hint of refreshing citrus (not those foil-packed, cheap & tiny, paper-thin towelettes that barely clean one finger off, & tear at the slightest sign of stress). All-in-all, we left that place fat & happy!”

“I was raised on Frank's pizza. Lived in Quad City for years and have since lived in several other areas around US. We had NEVER found another pizza like Frank's. Whenever we return to area, MUST have Frank's. My brother, uncle and cousins feel the same. Crust, sauce and sausage; all are unique and haven't found duplicates. My brother once picked up a Frank's pizza when driving through from Minnesota to Florida (frozen and on dry ice) and brought home to share. I love my brother. May be a little expensive, may be a little greasy, but it is the BEST. Really saying my mouth is watering just thinking about it.”

Potbelly Sandwich Works
Jul 12, 2009 by Sally from Salem

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • The marinated vegetables/giardino.
  • Crowded and busy during peak times.

“We used to live in Deerfield and the thing I miss most are the wonderful inexpensive sandwiches at Potbellies. We also really enjoyed the live local musicians that have a neat perch up above the seating area in a kind of balcony. This would be my fist stop if ever go back.”

Bimbos
Jul 11, 2009 by Marie from Algonquin

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[5] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Atmosphere was okay.
  • Service, manager's disregard for customer complaints.

“Horrible service! It took at least an hour to get our food, and there were only two of us. Ordered a side of roasted potatoes and they came out charred. Told manager, all he did was offer a free dessert, which we declined; he did not even offer to take the side of potatoes off of our bill. Waitress was rude until she brought out the check. Will not be going back.”

Hen House Family Restaurants
Jul 8, 2009 by ellen from champaign

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great pancakes.
  • No real butter.

“Real food, real people. Romantic in the old-fashioned sense if you enjoy watching real farmers eat breakfast and shoot the breeze while you play the "leave one peg" board game at your table, which I think it is.”

Gino's East Restaurants
Jul 3, 2009 by Rachel from Cleveland, OH

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • The food was amazing.
  • The service was just okay. Servers didn't give you much personal attention.

“We asked the hotel desk clerk, If you were going to get real Chicago-style deep dish pizza, where would you go? He quickly replied, Gino's, now resting in it's second home on Wells Street, is perfect for anyone who wants to experience authentic Chicago dining. The beer list is formidable, the atmosphere great, and, of course, the deep dish pizza is AMAZING. A little pricey but two people still couldn't finish it but completely worth it. I'll never go to Chicago again without visiting Gino's!”
