“After last year's experience with limited restaurant selection, poor quality food, and crowded conditions during EIU Family Weekend at Mattoon/Charleston, IL, I was determined to find something better. I was willing to drive and found Stan's Steakhouse in Findley. What a find! It is located in a very small rural community. The 30 minutes drive through the rural darkness made my 19 year old son question my sanity. However, all that changed when his rib eye and crab legs were served. I chose prime rib and grilled shrimp and my 16 year old had a rib eye. All were very tender, well prepared, and tasty. My sons enjoyed waffle fries and my baked potato was quite good. The shrimp were smaller than I expected, but nicely seasoned. The wait staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. She recommended pie for dessert and my sons took her recommendation. Both were pleased. The peach pie had flaky with plenty of sweet peaches. The chocolate cream was superior. The 16 year old savored every bite and only gave his brother one small bite. Both agreed it tasted like hot chocolate with fresh whipped cream.”

“The girls are rude. Their rule about making them sit down and talk with you is annoying. I wouldn't call this a family oriented place. They make it fun for kids but, the place is so tacky that I would never want my little kids to be around trashy people like that. The restaurant isn't good for travelers because it is hard to find. It is placed in a very odd area. The value isn't worth your money. Drinks are almost $3.00 and fries are almost $4.00. They have nothing of any nutritional value there. It is just an addition to the world's obesity problem. I had the worst service ever. The girls just stand around and talk to each other, and when you need something they look at you like your dumb.”

“Buffet style business, very clean and friendly. Small gift shop in the building with unique items. Not too far off interstate, but well worth the distance. Don't miss out on this if you get he chance.”

“A recent first time visit found Eduardo's to be a very clean, romantic and spacious restaurant with an extremely friendly staff. The food was a bit disappointing. My Fiesta fajitas were overdone and dry. There were 3 times as many onions and peppers as there was meat & shrimp. The guacamole, cheese and sour cream was served over a large bed of shredded lettuce in a boat type dish, leaving one to believe that there was more condiments than met the eye. Overall, the food is mediocre at best. I'll go back and try another dish.”

“Terrible! stay away at all costs. Food is horrible. Presentation is awful. Bathrooms as well as the tables are disgusting. Prices are outrageous. Nothing good about this place. Stay away.”

“Unfortunately this was my first visit, and I wasn't at all at home. Too bad the food wasn't great. The Swiss Cheese on our burger was certainly the white flavorless sliced block you can buy at GFS. Not a hint of Swiss flavor, just a light color. The first on-tap beer my hubby ordered was downright terrible, although it had been recommended. The recommended home-made blue cheese dressing was nothing to speak of. The cheese was a cheap grade floating in a bland white sauce. Any of us can do better by finding a recipe online. All in all the food isn't worth going. The staff isn't worth going. But if you live in Gray Slake and your friends are hanging there. You'll love it.”

“A little hole in the wall off the beaten path. The restaurant is part of a bar which is divided by a wall, so family is fine. Probably set up for locals. Prices are wonderful, $15.95 for a fillet and all you can eat specials on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Check the days that they are open. I rated the atmosphere a 7. I will admit it is was very clean and comfortable. We ordered their special Grinder Burger and the soup of the day. This was probably one of the top five burgers I have ever had. We could have made a meal of the soup, it was wonderful. The special of the day was Pepper Steak and rice and those that had it raved on it. To really add to the flavor of the place, there were three horses tied to the hitching post outside while their owners were inside eating. I grabbed a photo which I hope to add to this review. I programmed this place into my GPS. We plan on having lunch when we go back home and will certainly return when we come back to Galena. Lastly, don't pass on the homemade apple pie a-la-mode. Summary: We had two huge loaded burgers, three drinks (soda), two large soups, fries and apple pie with 2 scoops of vanilla, $23.00 plus tip.”

“I visited Silver Creek for a happy hour event (half-priced drinks and appetizers). After having eaten at the restaurant a couple of times before for dinner, we arrived for happy hour at 5:30 and finally waited on (i.e. given water) at about 6pm and were able to order about 6:15. Once we ordered, our waitress returned to tell us that the half-price deals were over at 6pm and since it was 6:15 we could no longer take advantage of this special. Had we been able to order soon after we arrived, this would not have been a problem. Once our food did arrive, it was not what we ordered and some of it was cold. Typically, this restaurant has good food, but the service is horrible. The waitresses in the greenhouse (where we were seated) acted like we were inconveniencing them if we asked for anything (like silverware!). We will not be returning.”

“I have eaten lunch and breakfast here. The staff is always very friendly, and the food is excellent. I like the burgers, and fried cheese curds for lunch. Breakfast items are good. They have a lot of train decor, and old pictures of downtown Fox Lake. Bring your family, tell your friends, it will not be the last time you go.”

“This is definitely a place to make a ritual at least once a week. Their portions are HUGE, their prices are very inexpensive, they are faster than any restaurant I have ever been to, the food is DELICIOUS, and the owner and waitresses are by far the friendliest I have ever been around. They get busy on weekends, but the tables turn over fairly quickly, I am assuming since the service is so quick. I always look forward to my weekends, so I can take that 40 minute drive to eat at Yannis. I also heard they just opened up a location in Momence not too long ago!”

“I have been to many Japanese restaurants In Chicagoland and elsewhere, and this was by far the most expensive. $6.95 for Edamame? $8.95 for a small sake? Please. In my opinion, it was not very clean, with just passable food at sky-high prices. I do not know how they stay open.”

“Farmington Pizza Company has the best thin crust pizza I have ever experienced. Probably because they pride themselves with only fresh ingredients, value and friendliest staff. The onion rings are a bonus! Long time customer for over 20 years and nothing compares. Small town, small price and big taste.”

“I have frequented this restaurant for over 10 years now. The taste of the food is amazing! Their best dishes in my opinion are Basil Fried Rice (Beef), Tom Yum Noodle Soup (Thai style with ground chicken, Basil Chicken (Thai style), and Pad Kee Mao with Beef. Over the years the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have increased. But still one of the better Thai restaurants in terms of taste in town.”

“Best pizza ever, period. We travel to Savanna once a month just to eat at Manny's, a two hour drive. We also bring home about 20 frozen pizzas from each trip. The sauce is amazing, and the crust is thin, making it possible to eat so much! If you love mushrooms, you will love their mushroom pizza. They load their mushroom pizzas with tons of mushrooms! I also love the attached bar and small arcade room for the kids. I would strongly recommend Manny's Pizza to everyone.”

“I've been to this restaurant on several occasions and I like the taste of the roasted chicken. It even has a familiar taste of an experience I once encountered in the Cook County prison. I just can't put my finger on it. The guy with the pony tail is very entertaining. The food came quick as I'm sure the server does too. Great restaurant and I'll be back!”

“Nancy's Pizzeria is amazing. If you haven't had Nancy's, you haven't had pizza. Everything from salad to pasta to pizza to bread sticks is always delicious from Nancy's in Mokena. The food is always very fresh and prepared to perfection. The store is clean and everyone is very friendly. The service is first rate and the food is second to none. If you want the best pizza in Mokena (and the surrounding area) go to Nancy's. You won't be disappointed.”

“I wanted a sloppy, sweet, blender drink from the bar. The waitress suggested their Pina Colada. The drink was just what the doctor ordered & the size was a value at $6.00. We ordered iced tea & it was perfectly brewed. Not warm or bitter, not too strong, & not too weak with ample ice. The garlic rolls come drizzled with a helping of warm, freshly minced garlic cloves, butter, & herbs. The house salad had fresh cold crisp greens (not warm, limp or with that old lettuce stink that even some of the best restaurants can't seem to avoid), cucumbers (crisp, not soggy with the centers fallen out), tomatoes (meaty & fresh tasting, not mealy, bruised or green & hard), hearty red onion (sweet like it should be, not hot like a pepper that burns your tongue as they often are), & my favorite, black olives that tasted like black olives (ripe colossal ones, not sliced, & not tasting like a can or a chemical). I noticed what looked like clarified butter, but it was a mix of butter & oil. I asked instead for some plain melted butter, which has a bit more salt taste (complimenting the crab). The crab was steaming hot (not room temp. or on the verge of downright cold). The shell was rock-hard & fresh (not soggy or rubbery as is the case at some places). The meat alone was delicious. Maybe a dip here or there in the butter or a drop of lemon to switch it up in between bites of delectable naked sweet crab. He said his blackened salmon tasted terrific but was a bit on the mushy side. Possibly over-cooked or a softer-fleshed breed of Salmon. The green beans were at the peak of freshness (not pre-frozen), they were cooked to perfection. Same goes for the carrots & zucchini in the mix. There was a small side of sweet Cole Slaw. Among all the decadent desert choices, the waitress mentioned they had coconut cake which wasnt on the menu. We opted for a slice & 2 forks. Coconut cake is one of my prized favorites. I was looking forward to tasting Chinns version of it. Holy smokes! This is the stuff they must serve in Heaven. Completely tasted as though it was just baked by hand - by someone with a lot of loving! Then the waitress confirmed that in fact a little lady bakes deserts fresh for them daily, right there in the kitchen! It had thick layers of some kind of whipped cream & Heaven, which had a light, refreshing flavor, allowing the flaked coconut to do the talking. This was a cake youd find at one of your better weddings. In fact, the waitress added that, The coconut cake, & any of Chinns other fresh baked deserts can be baked to order for just such an event. P.S. When youre dealing with sloppy butter-fingers, it is a must to have a pile of thick absorbent napkins (which they give you right off, & really theyre more like paper towels which do the trick). Those other re-usable/washable polyester fabric napkins may look great, but only serve to move messy food around, rather than removing it from your digits. As if that all wasnt wonderful enough, at meals end we were treated to oversized, sturdy, hot, moist disposable finger towels, wrapped in sterile plastic sleeves with just a pleasant hint of refreshing citrus (not those foil-packed, cheap & tiny, paper-thin towelettes that barely clean one finger off, & tear at the slightest sign of stress). All-in-all, we left that place fat & happy!”

“I was raised on Frank's pizza. Lived in Quad City for years and have since lived in several other areas around US. We had NEVER found another pizza like Frank's. Whenever we return to area, MUST have Frank's. My brother, uncle and cousins feel the same. Crust, sauce and sausage; all are unique and haven't found duplicates. My brother once picked up a Frank's pizza when driving through from Minnesota to Florida (frozen and on dry ice) and brought home to share. I love my brother. May be a little expensive, may be a little greasy, but it is the BEST. Really saying my mouth is watering just thinking about it.”

“Horrible service! It took at least an hour to get our food, and there were only two of us. Ordered a side of roasted potatoes and they came out charred. “We asked the hotel desk clerk, If you were going to get real Chicago-style deep dish pizza, where would you go? He quickly replied, Gino's, now resting in it's second home on Wells Street, is perfect for anyone who wants to experience authentic Chicago dining. The beer list is formidable, the atmosphere great, and, of course, the deep dish pizza is AMAZING. A little pricey but two people still couldn't finish it but completely worth it. I'll never go to Chicago again without visiting Gino's!”

“I am originally from the Buffalo area and although their traditional wings are far from Buffalo's original wings, they are probably the closest I have found in my 12+ years in Chicago. I typically order pickup and can't speak to the actual restaurant. They have a traditional wing special on Tuesdays (FYI). I would recommend asking them to make the wings crispy (but not extra crispy because that is too much) if you are going for the original Buffalo wing style.”

“I am lactose intolerant, allergic to MSG, phosphates, other chemical preservatives and flavor enhancers. I have been refused service in some other restaurants because of all of my food issues. I have explained my issues at other restaurants, requesting no butter and then the steamed veges are served to me dripping with butter. I explained all this in detail to the wait staff at La Vigna and they were more than happy to help me find items on their menu without butter or cheese, or anything else that might give me a problem. Their service was exceptional. The chicken grilled with olive oil was excellent, the angel hair pasta and steamed broccoli were done to perfection. And their freshly made sorbets with no milk for us who happen to be lactose intolerant are to die for! I left this restaurant very happy and satisfied and I highly recommend it.”

“I grew up in Rolling Meadows so when ever my family wanted a great burger and fry we went to Fratellos. Now I live in Hoffman Estates which is about 30 minutes away. I am a vegetarian and my husband and son only eat poultry so it's hard to find a burger place that accommodate us but Fratellos does. They have the best veggie burger! Each pregnancy I get obese with their cheese fries so my mom (who lives in RM) makes special trips for me.”

“We were told by some friends? That this was a really good steak house to eat at. Boy did they pull our legs, they must of meant it sarcastically ! The service was fair at the best. The salad bar was a 5/10 rating. The steaks were small tasteless, grisly. The bread was also pretty much tasteless ! The drink glasses were small and took forever to get a refill, after we had to ask for a refill. And were given a kind of strange look when we asked. If you want a real good steak. Don't go here !”

I was shocked to see the new Doyle's, they really did an amazing job remodeling. The inside is one of the nicest restaurants in the county, done up with a fantastic Irish pub feel. This is a must stop when traveling through Richmond. The new covered porch is fantastic to sit at for outside dining.”
