Side Street Inn
Oct 30, 2009 by Wally from Sacramento

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • I'm going back tonight!
  • I'm leaving on Tuesday and won't be able to eat here again for awhile.

“A wonderful local restaurant for a meal that is full of taste explosions. The rib eye and the pork chops to do die for. And don't leave out the Volcano desert. The best eruption of all.”

Makawao Steak House Inc
Oct 10, 2009 by Steve from Makawao

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[6] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great atmosphere, nice bar area.
  • Weak salad bar, slow service.

“3 minutes to be greeted by a hostess is an eternity. Tried to seat us 12 inches from a big biker. Had the soup and salad bar but still waited over ten minutes after we were done for the entrees. The waitress said they were a little backed up. Baked potato was tasty but cold. Not worth the 30 dollar entrees.”

Molokai Drive-Inn
Sep 26, 2009 by Brian from Dallas

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Unable to comment positively.
  • Too much to write here, just avoid the place, simple easy choice.

“Molokai Drive-in has sub par food and management will not cater to your own specific sandwich request, the customer to them, is not first! Quick and fast low quality meals are the order here, catering specifically to the local blue collar worker. If you have thought of or felt that Molokai does not want visitors or tourists, just make a visit here and you will have your answer.”

Seafood Vlg Chinese Cuisine
Sep 15, 2009 by phil from tucson

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Everything, waiters couldn't even speak or understand English very well.

“I had a coupon! When I got there we should have left after looking at menu! We got the seafood combo, it had some shrimps, some rubbery calamari and some fishy stuff. If you like sushi, you may have liked it. A bowl of stuck together rice and 3 drinks bill was OK with tip. This was bad enough but then they billed my credit card twice for same meal. Don't go there.”

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[3] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • My daughter had a fork so she didn't have to use chopsticks.
  • Food bad, too expensive, not friendly at all!

“This lunch buffet for me and my 4 year old daughter was $20! And the food was horrible. I actually had to question myself about the type of meat they were using in their food. My daughter ate white rice. That's it. It is not very child friendly, and the food was disgusting and it was way too much money! Don't waste your time or money.”

  • Slow service and very rude.

“Pacific was a great restaurant, if you don't mind being treated like trailer trash. We live in the Seattle area but have a condo on Beach. We eat out at fine establishments 3 to 4 times a week. We have frequented Pacific for years and liked it. For years this was a great restaurant, but sadly no more. If you want Oceanside dining consider Leilani's On The beach.”

Alexander's Fish & Chips
Apr 4, 2009 by Janet from Denver, CO

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Reasonable costs, good quality.
  • Not a place for romantic lovers' dining, but for lunch with friends, it's the best!

“I am wild for their oysters, plump and juicy. Great batter! If the Mahi is not overcooked, it's good, too. Once again, I now recommend the place to passengers and fellow flight crew members. My best advice. Stick to what Alexander's does best: Fish and oysters and clam strips, along with a large side of cole slaw.”

  • Food poisoning.

“I've been vacationing in Kauai for the past 12 years, and have eaten at the Beach House at least once on every visit. Always had great food, good service and a wonderful view. However, this time my visit (March 2009) was not happy: I was violently ill all night after returning home from the restaurant. Food poisoning? Sure felt like it to me. But for me the sad thing was not that this happened - sometimes these events are just part of life.”

Lapperts Ice Cream
Mar 30, 2009 by Elle from Mililani

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[8] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Ice cream was good.
  • Poor service and value.

“The ice cream was good, but the service and value were not. We got 2 kiddie scoops and 3 adult scoops (5 people in our party) - it came out to $23. The scoops were tiny. I would not go there again. The server was not friendly and was making me feel rushed. Lappert's has good ice cream, but Lappert's at the Hilton Hawaiian Village is not worth it.”

Hanamaulu Restaurant Tea House
Feb 24, 2009 by Jennifer from Portland, OR

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[6] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Tea rooms are quaint and overlook garden area.
  • Noisy, long buffet lines.

“The restaurant has a strange layout and can be noisy. We came on a Sunday and had the buffet. I thought the shrimp tempura was very good. There was a distinct lack of typical Chinese dishes like Lo Mein or any mixed meat and vegetable dish. The kids buffet price was an excellent value, but the adults, not a good value unless you are a big volume eater. We sat in one of the tea rooms on the floor straw mats which was very quaint. Courteous service. Overall a decent choice.”

Marco's Grill & Deli
Jan 16, 2009 by Rebekah from Mesa, AZ

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • GREAT service! Excellent food! Good value! Huge portions! You can't skip coffee or desert! Marco's will not disappoint!
  • The only bad thing about Marco's was that we hadn't heard of it sooner. It was our last meal on the island.

“Marco's was one of those after thoughts for us. We drove by, and said."There's a mom & pop shop! Let's eat there!" Well, it ended up being the best food, service, and dining experience we had on the entire trip! A year later, I found this empty Marco's Blend coffee bag in the back of the cupboard I had saved, and I couldn't not stop by and give this great deli my utmost praises! The service was phenomenal! Smiles, helpfulness, and my coffee cup never got to the half-way mark! The food was great! This is the kind of place you look at the next table, when their order is delivered and go. "oh! I want one of those!) The food will not disappoint! Great value too! Big portions, and the coffee. WOW! Marco's blend was incredible! We took home two bags, but they went way too fast. We will definitely make Marco's our first stop for lunch our next trip to Maui!”

Banditos Cantina
Jan 13, 2009 by Arturo from San Antonio,Texas

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[3] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Banditos has excellent atmosphere for serving Mexican food and beer.
  • Food does not have a Mexican flavor.

“The food came out cold. The food was not close to being Mexican food. I have eaten at many Mexican food places but today was a big disappointment. The rice was not Mexican rice. The beans were without any juice and the refried beans were thick and had no water. The chips and salsa were poor in quality. The use of yellow tortillas for chips not a good idea. The salsa was like eating tomato sauce; no jalapeno at all. The salsa is very mild. The taco shells had to have been purchased at SAM's zero flavor. Overall I would give this place a C+-at least they try to cook Mexican food but I would not visit again.”

“Staff was super friendly in helping to direct us back to our hotel. Staff was outgoing and energetic. Store was brightly lit and clean. Parking was easy to find. Store decorations really appealed to the kids. Very inviting for families. Prices were reasonable and product tasted great! There were both no sugar added and nondairy options available as well as hand-scooped yogurt that you could swear tasted just like regular ice cream! plus, there's a Mrs. Fields cookies at the same location.”

Pacifico Restaurant
Jan 6, 2009 by Bill

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[2] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Location.
  • Food, music, value, our expectations not being met.

“We have been eating at Pacifico's for years and had always found the food very good, pricey but tolerable, and a place we would recommend to friends and always eat there at least once a trip (we own a home in Kapalua so that means 3-4 times or more per year). But no longer! We went there for New Years Eve with four friends from New York (adults who eat out often), telling them what a great place this would be to celebrate. It was so embarrassing. We ordered drinks, and they were fine. The menu was fixed depending on entree. The oyster appetizer was in an unpleasant sauce, and we each ate only half of it. The salads looked like yesterday's leftovers. The entrees were indifferent, mine an ahi/marlin roll that was nicely covered in a fried exterior, but totally tasteless. The desserts were also undistinguished and left unfinished. We had wine with dinner by the glass and they were poured with a stingy eye. The waiter tried, but was working alone and as we had the 9:00 seating, he seemed tired and burnt out, as did the rest of the staff. Then there was the single musician, a very average singer/acoustic guitar player who played non-stop oldies, like, Tie a Yellow Ribbon, and others, for the whole time we were there and was playing when we left. Then there were the party favors: noise makers and shiny hats, tiaras and cardboard horns. The only good entertainment was on the beach where kids were setting off fireworks. It was a New Years Eve dinner, a terrible value and bad experience. (What was the inflated New Years pricing paying for?) Worst, I left my cell number and full name on the comments card and that was the 31st. Not a call yet so now this review. I ended that comment card with these words, and I still mean them: "What happened to you." I had read the other reviews and could not believe the bad ones, now I do. There is a sister restaurant next door, which we also always liked. There is a recent review on them that looks bad, but maybe they are worth a try as the other reviews are good. But after this experience at Pacifico, I would not risk my dining out enjoyment to give Pacifico another chance, there are too many wonderful restaurants in beautiful places on Maui to fool around.”

El Charro Mexican Restaurant

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Decent decor.
  • Bad service. Super Slow. Food just not worth it!

“This place is incredibly bad. The restaurant itself looks nice but the service is horrible. Everything took forever. We never managed to get enough silverware or even drinks. Despite our efforts to clearly relay our order to the continually confused waitress, our order came out wrong. The food itself wasn't worth the wait. Their salsa is gross; it tastes more like spicy spaghetti sauce. Their rice is okay but they honestly need to learn how to sauté some vegetables because everything came out raw. And they don't have a children's menu. or at least that's what they told us. Who knows? While it only took us about 20 minutes to eat, we spent over 2 hours there waiting. The place was empty; we were to only people there. I just don't understand. I will never, ever go there again.”

Extensive catering menu, worked within our budget, delivered even after normal hours and included all kinds of extras. Guests loved the food and kept asking where we catered from. Loved the Shrimp Tempura (light, crispy, not oily), Panko Furikake encrusted mahi, 24-hour salad and Fried Calamari. Thought they were reasonable and best of all, food was hot and fresh! The best!”

Mama's Fish House
Jul 29, 2008 by Bill from Mission Viejo, CA

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[7] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Great unique setting.
  • Small portions. No soup or salad. $8-9 Island drinks are $16.

“No doubt Mama's is a fine restaurant, but for the price, they must be laughing all the way to the bank. Great snob appeal. They even tell you who supposedly caught the fish you are eating so you can really have that unique experience. That may appeal to some, but it is not worth the extra $75 to $80 you will spend here for a meal that is comparable to a half dozen or so other fish houses on the island. We suspected all this and went anyway because it was our fourth time on Maui and we had never gone there. For sure we won't go again.”

Food:[9] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Elevator work, no house keeping, expensive valet, no restaurants.

“Waikiki Marina Resort is a hotel inside the Ilikai hotel. The Ilikai is going through a Reno and as a result, only 2 of 4 elevators were servicing the 35 floor building. Guests at the Waikiki Marina Resort do not receive housekeeping service, only fresh towels. If you plan to rent a car, it costs $25 a night to park. In addition, all the restaurants were closed as part of the Reno. Fortunately, this is Waikiki and there are quality restaurants everywhere! Hotel rooms were spacious and well equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, plate ware and cutlery.”

Food:[7] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • The service.

“This place was just ok. They gave large portions, but the food was ordinary. They were chintzy with the cheese on our nachos, and the service was very slow.
