Double Musky Inn
Aug 9, 2008 by EVOLET (See all reviews by EVOLET)
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • The import beer was the best thing all evening.
  • Barely enough space to walk in, host/hostess placed as so too intrusive to diners.

“After living in Alaksa for over 10 years and hearing such wonderful things about this place, I decided to make it the pinnacle of the evening for my first wedding anniversary. I still wonder, did I end up in a paralell universe? I feel like I got hosed after reading everyone else's reviews. Nothing about this experience was good. It started with waiting to be seen and then escorted to the bar to wait. Once there we order very over priced drinks, but the cheapest on the menu. My husbands tasted like nothing, but did come with a cherry. My drink was o.k. but for the price, a fresh strawberry would have been nice, vs. a frozen one that resembled a blot clot in my drink, making it most unappealing. Next, we had the cajun mushroom, that touts it's spicey...not sure where the spice was. There was more deep fried batter than anything. Finally, after 1 hour and being bumped into by other patrons, our table was ready. But even though we only needed to walk only 15ft, we had to clear out tab of 18.00 for 2 drinks and 11.00 for mushrooms. Needless to say our table was right by the entrance where anyone else coming for a meal would have to loiter and as close to the mens room as you could get. We were greeted reasonably fast by our waitress. We both knew we wanted the "world famous pepper steak" so our order was easy, the only difference was the salad dressing. Salads arrived, nothing there except lettuce and dressing which they got wrong on my husbands. Dressing amount too much for amount of salad. She said a few times she'd be back with fresh pepper, but we ended up using the shaker from the table. The bread was cold and hard, we didn't eat it. It suposedly had cheese and jalapenos, but we didn't see any. Steak finally arrived. From the first bite we were repulsed. The steak was decent once you got past the fat, but gravy was putrid. Our potato had twice the amount of sour cream needed. We both love sour cream, but OMG! The atmosphere is horrible. Seems like most emphasis is on the wine cellar. There is a beatiful fire place that serves as a storage area rather then lend itself to some ambiance. We also got to listen to "poopie" stories most of our meal by a 8-9 yo boy. Nice. Maybe a "pricey" and promotedly upscale restaurant could cater a little more to the adults that frequent this playground called Girdwood and have a separate area for those with children much like bar is for adults. While some of this is the issue of the Double Musky and some is not, the fact remains on what should have been a romantic evening back at the B&B that we paid $200.00 for the night was wasted as we were both sick with horrible diahrea in the bathrooms. Try as I might I can not find one saving grace for this place. Oh, yeah..forgot the imported beers we ordered were awesome. In talking with some Girdwood locals were heard stories of the place having gone down hill in the last few years. A mention of "the son took over" was the promient reason for the decline. Skip it! Double Musky meal was $100.00 for two for two drinks, two beers and two steaks. I have had better steaks at Lone Star. I should also mention we have eaten all over the world, maybe some folks who haven't will continue to recommend this kibble, I for one can not. I truly would not have fed that steak to my dog. Avoid it. If you want to eat in Girdwood, you want quality food, serice and atmosphere, go to Seven Glacier Restaurant at Alyeska Resort. I recommend the Ahi, but that's another review.”

Food:[1] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • I liked the "idea" behind what this place must have been like one day.
  • I really did not like the closing of the bar tab before dinner. Two credit card charges is not necesary.

Phyllis's Cafe & Salmon Bake
Jul 22, 2008 by Maureen from Connecticut

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Crab cakes were good.
  • Service terrible.

“On July 16, 2008 we ate at Phyllis' after hearing great reviews from another couple from our home state. The service was terrible. The menu stated your choice of potatoes with dinner, we ordered French fries not realizing or being told they were extra. We never saw our waitress again for the rest of the meal. The tip was already included on our bill. After seeking our waitress out and finding her sitting at a table reading the paper (to her benefit tip included). I guess customer service is not big to them they take their tip either way. Food was also not that great corn on cob was so soggy you could not eat it.”

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Friendly staff and warm inviting atmosphere.
  • I can't think of anything negative to say!

“I was told about Fat Olives by the Ocean Shores Motel in Homer. (Excellent Motel by the way, ocean views!) We went our for second night in town and WOW, what a great place! Excellent menu with a wide variety of salads and appetizers. My friend ordered the marinated Rib Eye. I tried the fettuccini with meat balls and both were excellent! The gentlemen at the next table were raving about the pizza and how they travel to Homer every year, look forward to all meals at Fat Olives! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who travels to Homer Alaska.”

Colony Kitchen The Noisy Goose Cafe
Jun 4, 2008 by Pat from Wasilla

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Restaurant decor nice.
  • Tasteless, expensive food not worth two cents.

“We ate there for the first and the last time the other day. Breakfast came to $36 for 2 people. Food was horrible. They charged 1.25 each to add peppers, onions and sausage. The breakfast scramble had about 5 small pieces of pepper in it, very few onions and skimpy sausage. The meal was tasteless! The scramble was loaded with potatoes, hard to find the eggs and the peppers, onions and sausage. I will not ever waste a penny there again. Really bad, would not recommend it to anyone.”

Turnagain House
May 18, 2008 by John from Anchorage

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5

  • Service and drinks were great!
  • Food quality has not met our expectations.

“We had a couple appetizers: Stuffed mushrooms with seafood which came out cold and the chef had to reheat them. My stuffed clam which was bitten into was reheated and returned -- that was not appropriate. The pan fried razor clams were tough and overcooked. I ordered the l/2 rack of lamb it was not cooked -- so I refused to pay for it. We used to go there many years ago -- when the food was excellent -- but now the food was not up to our expectations like before. The waitress was great -- she tried hard to please us by taking off the lamb off the bill and bringing a free dessert. I would not recommend this place in the future.”

Mac Murray's Alaska Halibut House
Apr 27, 2008 by Amy from Yuba City, CA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • The freshness of the halibut and the great way it was prepared.
  • That it's so far from my home town.

“We discovered the Halibut House in Sept. of '07. For someone, who is not a lover of fish, I can tell you that I can hardly wait to return to have another meal of the halibut fish and chips. We ordered that last year and found it to be absolutely excellent. We are scheduled to return in Sept. of this year and my first thought was that we could revisit Mac Murray's. We'll only be in Valdez for a matter of hours, as we'll be traveling with a Princess cruise, but I intend to make the most of my time there. If only my stomach could old more!”

Colony Kitchen The Noisy Goose Cafe
Mar 3, 2008 by Wes from Eagle River, AK

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Like most of Alaska, the view is nice.
  • Food, service, price.

“We were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food and the service here at Palmer, AK's Noisy Goose. Their Reuben was served on white bread without any dressing, their Burgers cost 9.50 and were comparable in size and quality to something you'd buy at a fast food joint, and our waitress never refilled our coffee. I was so dissatisfied with my meal that I'm spending the time to complain about it here, so take my advice and don't waste your money here.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Food, wine list, desert, scenic drive.
  • Wait.

“We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. They had several restaurants and offered room service (although we didn't use either). Also had other amenities (pool, tennis courts, and internet). The room was very clean and the front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room attendant was also very helpful. The hotel is in a good, safe location. Close by to a supermarket if you want to buy snacks/water which is helpful when you're there multiple nights; however the only downside is there is no fridge so we couldn't keep our water cool.”

Colony Kitchen The Noisy Goose Cafe
Oct 9, 2007 by Gina from Wasilla,AK

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[4] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Cool decorations.
  • Poor service, bagged salad, food just ok.

“My family took me to colony kitchen/noisy goose cafe to celebrate 40th birthday. We order hot wings. They came pretty quick, but she said she would return with plates. We finally gave up and ate our wings. We were just finishing up when she returned with our plates. We finally got our drink orders after we finished our hot wings. She didn't bring my dinner salad until she brought my meal. We would have asked her for the salad, but she was not to be found. We drop 70 bucks for four people, and the food was just ok. There are not very many choices to choose from in this area, but I will not return again. Oh! Business was way slow! I could understand if it was really busy, but it wasn't. .”

I think we should have been able to carry our tab with us, since we were having dinner here. That had to have been the only thing I found negative about it. The steak was out of this world. Gwennies Old Alaska Restaurant
Sep 6, 2007 by Wendy from tucson

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Children seem to like all the stuffed animals in the decor.
  • This restaurant is past its prime and in full decline.

“We'd been to Gwennies before and had a decent breakfast, so we decided to try their dinner menu. Big mistake. We'll never go back to Gwennies again, and we don't recommend that anyone eat there. My husband and I both ordered the baked halibut dinner special. Before eating at Gwennies, I had no idea that an Alaskan restaurant wouldn't know how to cook halibut, but the cook at Gwennies that night didn't have a clue. We both were served a huge slab of halibut, but the fish was cold and mushy. It looked and tasted as if it had been reheated after being frozen, and it hadn't been completely reheated. How can an Alaskan restaurant serve cold, mushy halibut as a dinner special? We've had perfectly cooked, light and flaky halibut at numerous restaurants all over Alaska, so it was quite a shock that Gwennies was so bad. We spent $50 on that dinner.”

“In town for a business trip and had a free evening. Took a nice walk around downtown and ended up with this. Since I was by myself, found an open seat at the bar and ordered a draft beer. I was told it was from their other restaurant. A very tasty Hefeweizen. Very friendly bartender, mention he had been in town for a number of years and was full of all kind of great tips. Started with a sliced tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil salad, very fresh tasting tomato slices and great flavor. I ended up ordering the Osso Bochco and found it to be outstanding, would order it again next time in town. Carrot cake for dessert and it was one of the best I ever had. Busy place, very nice service, all the staff seemed to be having a good time. Good Food.”

Fat Olives
May 27, 2007 by Elaine from Anchorage

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • The food is great and atmosphere is very lively and fun.
  • The sometimes long wait for a table.

“They make the largest pizzas-to-go I have ever seen. The Noanie's salad, with candied walnuts, crumbled bleu cheese, and thinly sliced apples, is excellent. The pizza is thin and perfectly cooked. The slice-of-the-day is almost as big as a regular 12-inch pizza. Also, the dessert is very good. The last time I went, I had the chocolate cake with more layers of chocolate. The chocolate lover's dream cake. Overall, the place has an excellent vibe, partly due to the neat, original paintings and bright wall colors that decorate the place. ”

We kept saying we needed to try some other restaurants and each time we did we would end up back at cups, disappointed in all other restaurants.”

If I go here in the morning the service and food is what you would expect. But go anytime after 2 PM and you would think you were in another world. I have tried several times to get something late afternoon-early evening. If anyone even waits on you have to ask them to take your order, then when it finally comes it has turned cold from sitting so long waiting on the staff to finish their discussions about who is doing what with whom. They apply no attention to the customers, bring wrong food or ignore you all together. The manager must leave around 2 pm. This is not a single time but time and time again. After 20 years of 5-8 meals a week here I have had enough and will take my hunger elsewhere.”

  • Elegant yet warm and friendly.
  • Doesn't fit every budget.

“This is a classy place, yet comfortable and friendly, not "stiff". The food is elegant and delicious, the wine selection lovely and the booths are very tall. I loved Andy the bartender with so much personality.”

Choffees
Mar 24, 2007 by Jean from Flagstaff

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Excellent food and coffee.
  • Too small.

“Coffees are actually a small soup, sandwich, coffee, and pastry spot. They have a limited breakfast menu but the food that I tried was excellent and very affordable. Their sandwich menu is great. I recommend choosing something from their "house specialties". I tried their ck tuna sandwich and it was amazing. I also tried the jamming' ham sandwich and it was excellent also. The place is small, only two tables and very busy. So it may be best to call ahead and place your order. Oh, by-the-way, they have the best coffee Iżve ever had...”

Cadillac Cafe LLC
Mar 24, 2007 by Karen from Wasilla

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[6] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Nice atmosphere.
  • Sticker shock on the prices.

“I've visited both Cadillac cafes in Wasilla. While I find both restaurants clean, the food decent, and the staff friendly, I am only giving it 5 stars overall because the prices are out of line. Cc prices are in line with more of an upscale restaurant. I was shocked that a piece of pie was $7. As it was tourist season, I thought the menu was set for tourist prices, but I was assured it was not...”

Duncan House Dinner
Feb 16, 2007 by Kris from Ely, MN

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Best cakes and reindeer sausage from homer to took.
  • My waitress called me honey. That's not very masculine!

“After spending the night on the homer spit during a blizzard it was good to find a warm place for breakfast. From the unique table settings (every table has a different salt and pepper shaker, every patron has there own unique cloth Napkin and coffee mug) to the blend of bric-a-brac to the variety of the clientele you know you're in for a unique experience. I had the best pancakes and reindeer sausage between homers and took, Alaska. And my waitress called me hon. "would you like some more coffee, hon.ż”

Pioneer Cafe
Oct 18, 2006 by Alice from Alexandria

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Quick, friendly service.
  • I'm not positive about this, but I think smoking is allowed.

“We were touring Ketchikan in the pouring rain and looking for a quick, tasty lunch. I ordered the fried halibut which was fabulous, and my husband ordered creamed chip beef on toast which came on a huge platter. Service was helpful, friendly and quick. We enjoyed eating is a restaurant that was not "touristy." It was just what we were looking for- nothing fancy, but seemed like "authentic Alaska."”

Jersey Subs Inc
Oct 17, 2006 by jill from soldotna

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[5] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Read review on unauthentic east coast food.

“They don't know how to make a Philly steak sand - they used chunky meat that was overcooked and although the menu called for provolone cheese they put Swiss on instead. I had higher hopes. The owner was not very friendly either a bit gruff actually. I grew up on the east coast and know what this should be like. Wouldn't go again. And I paid way too much for this meal.”

Elfs Den
Oct 17, 2006 by Daniel from Delta Junction

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Quality Food, Service, Consistency, Variety, Clean.
  • Lighting, Slightly dated interior.

“Although slightly dated, the interior is clean and friendly. The salad bar is unique, with pasta, olive, apple salads and other forgotten treats. The soups are both light or hearty - you pick. The fresh mini loaf of bread was warm and had to be held properly to cut - m-m-good! The chicken Cordon Blue was wonderful, and my wife's stuffed halibut was awesome! Just the right amount of spices and natural flavors. Our waitress was busy getting ready for a large group, she still checked on us and made sure we were happy with our food and service. Even though we live 82 miles away, we make sure to have dinner at the Elfs Den about 4 times every year. ”

Collegetown Pizza
Oct 6, 2006 by Erika from Columbus, Ohio

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Fresh Ingredients and unlimited options for combinations. They'll make anything you want!
  • Small; can get packed on a Friday/Saturday night.

“Undeniably family run. The Fuscous are incredibly hospitable and charming. You're dining with the family when you dine at College Town. Great place to have a good beer and pizza by the slice, or a glass of wine and a personalized pizza with friends! The crust is amazing and they have too many variations to choose from. The Gelato is a great way to wrap up the dinner. You will miss out if you don't make it here!”
