“The food was great. Although we're not vegetarian it was great to try something different and very tasty. The walnut burger was lovely, as was the brownie to finish. Hard to judge the atmosphere as there were only 3 other people there during our meal. There was an optional 10% service charge which was added to the total bill - hard to refuse. We'd have given a good tip anyway but resent it being forced on us. Waitress was a bit miserable but polite - a bit of chat would have been very welcome.”

“Place is awful, dirty windows and need of an update. Still stuck in the 80s. Should gave a realize how bad it was as empty and took a group booking late. Wouldn't go again and no one liked the expensive food. Plates dirty to.”

“We have been to Mud Dock plenty of times before, and in the past have had good experiences. Before I would always recommend this venue to friends and family. Yesterday we had family down, so decided to take them to Mud Dock for a meal and a few drinks. We noticed that none of the tables were big enough for our group, so proceeded to move 2 tables closer together. Immediately a blond polish waitress appeared and started shouting at us, telling us to move the tables back now!, and never ever move tables closer together! I was pretty gob smacked, and almost couldnt believe she was being serious, as Ive not been spoken to in such a manor for many years. In-fact the last time I was spoken to like this was when I was given detention at school. We explained that the tables were out of the way, and that our group wanted to sit together. She just reiterated what she said shouting at us as if we had just done something illegal. Needless to say we all left with a very sour taste in our mouths, and are very unlikely to return again. Mud Docks customer service has obviously drastically gone down hill in recent months. Thanks to her attitude she lost Mud Dock our custom and I advice everyone to give this venue a miss until they train staff the fine art of customer service.”

“Lively and warm restaurant, to be promptly seated at our table with drinks being served immediately. The staff was attentive all evening and the food was excellent. This was definitely one of the best again.”

“We had the unfortunate experience of eating at this restaurant this weekend, and it is certainly not an experience we will be repeating. We needed somewhere to eat after the Grand National, and since there was 9 of us we were looking for somewhere simple, and good value. For this sort of food we usually go to Casa Italia which offers good quality, reasonably priced Italian food, but could not get a table and so headed into Casa Bella on Spec. What a mistake. We were greeted and told that we would only have to wait ten minutes. 35 minutes later we were seated, with no apology. We ordered our food from the menu, which made the food sound delicious. The starters arrived, and since we had only ordered olives, garlic bread and calamari, there was not much which could go wrong. Then, our mains arrived. Out of 9 of us, nobody was satisfied. I had ordered king prawn and monkfish skewers which arrived with no marinade, no side orders and no taste. On top of this, we paid £16.95 for the pleasure! Another member of our part ordered a chicken dish, which arrived greasy and overcooked and was served with a plate of microwaved vegetables. Even my boyfriend and his friend who ordered filled pasta and pizza respectively, were very disappointed. The pasta was stodgy and the pizza was dry. After we had eaten what we could of the terrible food, the bill arrived. They had the cheek to add a 10% gratuity on top of the already ridiculous prices for what we had received. I decided that I just had to say something to the restaurant manager, not to try and get money off the bill, but because I like to receive feedback in my line of work and thought that they may appreciate hearing the truth about the substandard food that they were producing. The staff was most unhelpful and the responses I received seemed almost rehearsed. They told me that over the weekend they had had over 600 diners and not received one complaint ( something I doubt) and when I questioned the prices, the manager started to tell me that it was because he had bills (rent, electricity and gas) to pay! Clearly as a customer this is not my concern! This restaurant left a terrible taste in my mouth, not only for the awful food but for the rude and blind sighted attitudes of the staff- avoid at all costs!”

“What a waste of a great window view location of Botanic Avenue. Again, this restaurant was good some years ago. I've been twice again over the past year to give it the benefit of the doubt but both time the food was awful. The sauce was like it came out of a packet like curry flavored Bisto. The chicken seem like it had been cooked separately and the gruel poured on top. Apart from the food all else is fine but whats the point if the foods not good.”

“Went there on New Year's Day and in their defense was a bit busy. That does not however mean that they should lower the standards of their dishes or anything like that. We ordered a ham, cheese and tomato panini, which was tasty, although there was not one discerning flavor and a veggie breakfast, which my girlfriend (a veggie with a healthy appetite!) did not finish. The scrambled eggs were unseasoned, the sweet potato did not even look inviting, while the rest was just blunt all put together in a small plate. The atmosphere on a good day is pretty romantic and the decor inspires either couples to come in and gaze at the rest of the world or lonely hearts to read a book in the big comfortable sofas.”

“Have been a regular diner at Mother India for a number of years. So much so, that I don't mind the 14 mile round trip. Bought a take-away on Saturday and was really disappointed (for the first time). First of all, the pakora was at least a 1/3 smaller than the usual Glasgow sized portions. 2 portions of rice were crammed into one dish. The 2 main courses were very disappointing - Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tikka Mahkni. Both were lacking in taste and seasoning, the tikka was very poor. The Mahkni sauce was extremely watery and tasteless. Don't know whether I'll be back or not as it is easily bettered by the local 3-in-1. Living on past reputations is not good enough - once the good name is tarnished it's very hard to win customers back.”

“The only good thing about this restaurant is the building it is set in. The service is diabolical and the food is mediocre. One of the worst meals I have had for a long time and would never go back here.”

“I went to Kro the other day with a group of friends for one of my friends' birthdays, during the usual student lunch break of 1 till 2. We arrived at Kro at about 1:10 and by 1:25 we were still waiting at the bar to be served. The place wasn't exactly busy and there were about 7 of us in our group, yet none of the bar staff seemed interested in serving us and there was no such thing as first-come-first-served - it just seemed to be a case of whoever shouted the loudest got heard. When bar staff finally acknowledged our presence, they told me it would take 15 minutes to prepare the meals that we wanted and so instead, we decided to just order a drink and go without food, as we all had lectures at 2. However, one of my friends, who was feeling unwell and had intended to eat lunch at Kro, bought a salad elsewhere and came back into Kro to eat it with the rest of us, who had all bought drinks, including one for her. When she had almost finished eating it, a very rude member of staff approached her and basically told her off for eating the salad in the restaurant. I tried to explain, but the member of staff walked off, completely disinterested. When he passed by again, he complained a 2nd time to my friend for eating the salad. I tried to explain the situation for her (she is not a native English speaker), but the member of staff was completely disinterested and repeatedly spoke over me saying 'no excuses, no excuses' and so wasn't interested in listening to the fact that it was their poor customer service which meant that my friend had no other option but to get food elsewhere. I immediately regretted having brought so many friends to this restaurant/bar. Aside from this particular instance, I have generally found most of the staff to be very rude and abrupt, generally giving out the idea that they would rather be anywhere but there and that customers are just an inconvenience. I would say, especially to all students, save your money and go elsewhere. The food is certainly not cheap for what you get and when there is no customer concern or service, why would you bother paying more than average prices? I don't know what Kro's official stance to customer service is, but from my various experiences, it seems to me that at Kro the customer is never right basically, one to avoid!”

“Today (1 Nov 2008): had to go and find a waitress after waiting 15 mins at an unclear table. The food was served 5 mins later, but without clearing the table. Fast service? Yes - but it was inedible. The chips were very cold, the beans were at best tepid, and the bacon was burnt to a frazzle. Even though I leave near Stratford, I have not been for 10 years after a similar experience, but we went today in the hope that it had improved in 10 years. It hasnt. It must rely on the innocence of tourists, rather than locals. And the tourists must go away with a truly terrible impression of Stratford. Not recommended at all!”

“Fantastic Food, but make sure you're not too hungry before you go. We knew the portions wouldn't be huge but why wait at least half an hour between courses? When you go to pay premium prices you expect premium service.”

“Being Italian I was looking forward to it so the opportunity arose when I visited the Edinburgh festival. I have to admit that it is very difficult to find a proper Italian deli in the UK. All my hopes disappeared when I entered the Valvona & Crolla shop, when I started reading the label and found that the product on sale were all average Italian supermarkets products with a very dear price, and not the one I would buy. The Valvona & Crolla branded products were made by big Italian companies and the only few good wines they had, but nothing more than the ones available from supermarkets, had an excessive high price. As this was not enough, we decided to stay for a coffee, it was 4pm and when reading the menu we found the affogato and ordered it. Again, another big disappointment. The affogato we received and we paid £3.95 was not more than a ball of vanilla lost in a poor espresso. Luckily, for us Italians looking for something to remind us about our country, there are other places that I would recommend.”

“My husband and I visited Cafe Pasta on Saturday the 28th of June. We found the service excellent and the food at the time of eating tasted excellent. However during the early hours of Sunday morning it because ever apparent that perhaps the kitchen cleanliness left a lot to be desired! I suffered terribly with food poisoning and spent the rest of the weekend tucked up in bed!”

“I and some friends popped in for some lunch. It wasn't a busy day and the bar wasn't overrun with people. We ordered food and drinks and sat down and waited. It took 30 mins for the food to arrive. Some other people who had ordered after us at the bar had received their food 15 mins earlier. We queried this and were told it would appear in the next 5 mins. 10 minutes later still not food and had to ask them again. When the food had arrived. All the orders were wrong and the food was cold. I had ordered a baked potato with baked beans and my friend had ordered a brie and tomato wrap. The bake beans were cold and were so few I could count them on the plate. The potato was the size of a new potato. Quite pathetic. My friend is a vegetarian. She was given a brie and bacon wrap rather than a brie and tomato. When we asked for this to be changed they told her to just take the bacon off! I think they missed the point! I will not be eating there again.”

“This place looks classy from the outside, and the decor is reasonable inside too. But appearances can be deceptive and unfortunately both the food and the service were disappointing. This is Chinese food from 1980s Britain - soggy veg (if you can find any), neon sweet and sour, and everything bathed in gallons of soy sauce. Come on guys - you wouldn't eat this! The waiting staff were surly, and weren't even bothered enough to ask whether we enjoyed our meal. We won't be going back and ”

“Was there today. My partner got a big black hair in her food. When we pointed this out to the manager, she looked at both of us (to make sure neither of us had dark hair) and said "it's only a little hair" (which it wasn't). My partner said that it was still unacceptable, the manager replied "it's not as if it is a beetle, or something". My partner asked her if she would like to receive her food in this way. No apology. No going back for us!”

“This is a truly awful pub. It's not really the bland decor but the staff that made this place so bad (the food should be avoided at all costs). The owner/manager is the ruin of the Cadogan Arms. Surely, brash, rude, unfriendly - all things that a good landlord should avoid, and all things that this guy is. If you happen to approach the door of this pub, stop! Go somewhere else - go anywhere else. Awful - avoid at all costs.”

“Went for Sunday breakfast. The menu had so many nice things to choose from. The food arrived quickly and was beautifully cooked. The fried breakfast was not greasy, the toast was hot, the egg and tomato on toast was lovely. The Irish cream cappacino was as good as Starbucks and the fruit smoothie was a wonderful drink for my 2 year old.”

“Quite busy. Numerous items on menu not available. When food did arrive some 50 minutes later, food was unimaginative and less than average. Part of the pub (top area) was sealed off so that customers could not access seating, many people came in and left the premises. Tables dirty, seemed to be insufficient staff who were trying hard but not competent to deal with the business. Quite sad really. This establishment is in a great location on The Albert Dock area but is a long way from realizing its sales potential. I would not revisit this pub. This establishment is a poor reflection of a facilities offered in a city celebrating Capital of Culture.”

“Sandwiches were very poor as the bread was moldy and the lettuce was brown, they took too long to come, as for the roast and the jacket potatoes they were excellent, the timings were good. There is some bad waitress especially the girl that is normally in the green room. The girls in the shop were very pleasant and very understood they took the complaint well. They were very humorous and the customers found them friendly. The manager was very rude and talked to them unfairly.”

“Most small places dont cater well for large groups. Sally Lunns is no exception. There are three floors with occasional tables and seating. It is busy around lunchtime. Go without expecting to eat straight away and be prepared to wait (outside/ in entrance lobby) and a pleasant meal can be savored at your leisure. Once seated there is no haste to be moved on. I went to taste the bun; yet left after tea, main meal and scummy pudding. Whilst the food is more expensive than say a little chef, you are paying for more than just the food: service, novelty, atmosphere etc. The basement - 4 sq meter - museum had static displays and showed history floor levels. Otherwise it had not a lot to recommend apart from that is where buns are bought to take away. The buns/flavored butters were great and freeze/keep well.”

“Although the restaurant really lacks atmosphere and intimacy, they did try with a few candles on the tables. The very uncomfortable wicker and pine chairs made the place look more like a cafe. However the staff were friendly enough, if a bit scruffily dressed but the food was excellent.”

“We were excited about our visit to what has a reputation as the "best" in Bristol, but disappointed with the Scallop Starter, not impressed with my over baked Halibut main and even more upset when the waiter failed to report back from the Chef after my wife complained about her chewy steak, not impressed! Desserts were delicious, but will not visit again.”

“Lovely building but we had a dreadful experience, despite advertising the fact they are family friendly and they heat baby food, the waitress would not do it. (It was in a sealed shop bought jar) as she said it had meat in it, something I would think appropriate if there was no meat on the menu, but there was. Our food was cold too, so our baby was in good company. Not as advertised.”

“Cheap and cheerful, food is good, so is the portion sizes, although comes across as quite dirty! The toilets upstairs are a put off, viewing the storage of the rice, noodle etc. dont really want to see that side. Good late opening times sit in or takeaway. Use it quite frequently. Used to go to the canton on the opposite side of road, same again good food, cheap and not the cleanest of looking. Problem why no longer open.”

“I and four friends had dinner on 15th December 2007. The staff was lovely, and the food was tasty but cold. Our soup was cold and had to be reheated, our turkey dinner was cold and had to be reheated and the wrong dessert came. Because of this they gave us 30% of our wine. Which was a lovely gesture but when they gave us the bill they had overcharged for the wine by 50%. That was corrected of course with a smile and a discount, but I will not be returning. The problem seems to have been with the chef not plating the food at the right time.”

“Where do we start, the staff have attitude problems including the "manager", they will serve you when they can be bothered i.e. when not chatting too each other or using mobile phones. The food was cold the fist time it came out and had to be re-heated, and must not have been cooked properly as my partner was very sick about an hour after leaving the place due to what must have been food poisoning. My partner was also "propositioned" while trying to use the bathroom downstairs too, this was by the "manager" who clearly had other interests rather than his work. The whole experience was so bad we thought it was April fools day, and someone was having a laugh. Just don't waste your time here, lots of other nice cafes in the area who do have customer care.”
