“No half portions for kids. We were charged for a plate of potatoes and vegetables. My 7 year old does not eat meat.”

“Food was excellent and service was top class, but this place is expensive - for example 16 for a crab claw starter is very steep compared with other restaurants we've been to in Ireland and in Dublin. Tables were very closely set together. We were nearly sharing our dinner with the people on either side of us.”

“Food is good and simple, but you get the feeling that the staff is worked to the bone, which can make it difficult to enjoy your meal. The lunch chowder is fantastic as are the dinner steaks. The Carvery not so good. Many of its ingredients arriving already overcooked. Plenty of space. Perfect if you are sick of being jammed in restaurants for Euro per head!”

“This is a great place for authentic food. Not the type of place you would sit over a bottle of wine afterwards though. The food is wonderful. Try the starters spicy salad ($5) and the pork dumplings ($6.50). The fried noodle - chicken prawns dish is great. If you want anything extra hot, just ask for either chili sauce or extra green chilis. The chicken noodle soup is the best. Don't get the white wine with the Chinese sounding name. Not the best. There is a very limited wine list. I go there very often and the owner scares the wits out of us. So if he is abrupt, just take it as part of the experience.”

“Everything was clean, and the toilet facilities were fine. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant. We had a single waitress servicing us in the whole process, and she did the job acceptably, but in no way perfect when it came to small-talking and smiling in between the formal service as you usually prefers a good waiter.”

“Avoid, I'm an amateur cook only and I sat through my meal thinking I could have done better staying in and cooking for myself.”

“At first we werent sure what to expect from a Cantonese restaurant in a major tourist town but once my girlfriend and I stepped inside we were transported to the orient. The service was excellent. We were seated immediately and looked after in every way throughout our meal. The food itself was excellent. I had chicken curry and fried rice and my girl friend had sweet and sour chicken with chips. Not the most extravagant but its the basic meals that make or break in my opinion. For desert we had ice-cream and coffee which finished the night nicely. The decor of this restaurant was perfect. The tables and chairs seemed to come from the orient themselves and the surrounding partitions finished the illusion. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.”

“This place was absolutely awful. The place itself is great but unfortunately the service was quite possibly the worst I have ever experienced. Chaotic and unfriendly. Table next to us was served bread with teeth marks in it! And instead of apologizing the waiter was rude to them! Will not return.”

“Dan Lowreys is a nice friendly place to relax and enjoy a drink in pleasant surroundings. The food is good overall with a varied menu available. It has a regular cliental but also seems to have a steady flow of tourists. The food is good value for money and the portions are good. Friendly staff. I would recommend it.”

“Founded in 1992, is still going strong, and still offering good food at decent prices. Take the current early bird as an example. You can pick from about six starters. Mine was simply described as: Pork and Veal Terrine on a Burnt Orange Glaze. But it was much more than that. It was accompanied by a generous crunchy salad and a few tasty strawberries combined well with the terrine then on to the main course. Again, there is quite a choice about prices. I picked the Baked Fresh Salmon in Dill and Cream Sauce, served with a Croquette and Puree of vegetables. The fish is served on a beautifully flavored mash potato and, is warned, meat or fish portions are generous. Being generous is not much good if the food is poor. Have no fears here though. Brendan has cooked around the world and this salmon dish was excellent. Too full to chance the desserts (this man puts sherry into his sherry trifle), we took our time and finished off the wine, which was the house white, a Domaine Virginie Terret/Sauvignon sur lie. It is a rare combination in these parts but is appealingly dry, fruity and with good lasting favor. The four Liars is a BYO restaurant which means you can bring in your own wine. Brendan has cooked for George Bush, Liz Taylor, Willie Brandt, Jackie Kennedy, Elton John, Richard Burton and Queen Elizabeth II to name but a few. He is also a keen artist and drawer and many of his works can be found on display on the walls of the Four Liars Bistro.”

“This was one of our most favorite restaurants in Ireland - warm, responsive service, delicious food, engaging atmosphere. We went twice in 4 days. I highly recommend it.”

“My wife and I fell upon "The '98" 3 years ago! I am song smith and found great pleasure and grace being allowed to sing for the wonderful friends of the '98. We sang "Lass of Isle McGee" ( A song for my father) and "Stairs and Stepping Stones" (for the homeless of the Island)... songs that were received with kindness! Therefore, we will be back in spring of '08 and hope to sing "The North" and "Call My Name" Thank You !”

“Bland food, one main course sent back as the bacon in the sauce could hardly be found. Having eaten in better and cheaper elsewhere what should have been a special evening was a let down. ”

“This is a classic Irish pub, untouched for years. He made us thoroughly welcome. Food as it is basic, only a snack menu of toasted sandwiches, soup and rolls. Beer is kept well. Two large screens for any sports that are on. The upstairs function room has music or comedy every night of the week. We went to both and they were great. It's not a family pub, and it's not a romantic pub, but it is great friendly staff and customers make it a great place to stop by for some authentic Irish hospitality.”

“A wonderful restaurant with delicious food. An Australian friend of mine said that he had never had such a good steak even in Australia; witch is a good review if any I prefer the fish; perfectly cooked. the bistro also serves a small but very nice variety of selected wines.”

“3rd day in Dublin, and I have yet to be impressed by any of the places I've eaten, despite looking online beforehand. This place had great reviews, but I'm starting to wonder if the same person (sans taste buds) is reviewing the places I've eaten at. Pizza was so , and my taleteller ala pollo fungi ('souse my Italian) was bland beyond belief. No flavor whatsoever. And what kind of Italian eatery is it where you have to ask for grated cheese on your pasta. Oh, and pepper for that matter. 2 out of 5, and I'm being generous at that.”

“We visited the BA Cafe for a quick meal on a busy Saturday night. We had pre-booked a table for 16 people which was not quite ready when we arrived on time, despite me booking and re-confirming an hour before. We ordered some beer and nachos immediately as we were on a tight schedule. The nacho's were delivered before the beer, the nacho's were OK, but nothing special, I've certainly tasted better. We then ordered the mains from the polite waitress who spoke fairly mediocre English. 14 of the 16 meals were delivered in good time, although there was a fairly long wait between the first and 14th meal. As for the last two... Had to ask for them again, the burger turned up very rare and the fahita's turned up after the rest of us had finished eating almost half an hour later. To mess up an order is almost understandable, to then send out undercooked food and take an age to rectify the other mistake was very annoying. In general the food (apart from the rare burger) was edible, but not particularly spectacular, it was mass produced with very little flavor. However the worst thing about the evening was the waiter on a power trip yelling at one of our party in a completely unacceptable manner. The BA cafe, has the word Ass written everywhere, so if you are easily offended you wouldn't choose to visit, it was after 9 in the evening, and there were no children in the Cafe. One of our party had a drinking fine to carry out, so he duly stood on his chair to down his pint. He did admittedly drop his trousers (leaving his boxers firmly in place), which is perhaps not the best idea in a food establishment, however, the reaction from the rest of the customers seemed fairly positive, with lots of cheering coming from other tables. At this point one of the waiters literally pulled him from the chair shouting at the top of his voice, thus was met with boo's and a groan from the rest of the customers. He then returned 5 minutes later and had a second shout at the person involved. Now I can understand that the behavior of our friend was possibly a little OTT, however the reaction was completely over the top and unwarranted. If you want somewhere relaxed to go to eat then you may have to find somewhere else, and to be honest the food doesn't make it worth a visit anyway.”

“June 2006: We went to the Ha Penny Pub on a Friday night looking for traditional music. Our guide did not feel like drinking that night, and was asked to order up or leave- even though he'd brought in about 10 of us who had already ordered drinks. In my opinion, this was rude and very short-sighted on the manager's part (For the price of a beer, he may well have lost all future referrals from this guide.) Once the music started, it was so over-amplified that the sound was distorted, and not at all enjoyable, although the musicians were first-rate. As we left in disgust, we realized that the music was so loud it could be heard a block away- obviously the management's intent was to pack in every possible person who would buy a drink before they realized the sound was intolerable. In two weeks of visiting pubs all around Ireland, this place stood out as the absolute worst.”

“We saw Robertino's reasonably priced menu on the street and decided to try it that evening. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We returned two nights later because we were convinced that the food and service would be the same. It was.”
