User Reviews for Ottawa Restaurants« Go back to Samsun HotelsResearch User Reviews for Ottawa (1-20 of 27)D'Arcy McGee's Irish Pub
“My wife and I visited your restaurant today at the airport. It never opened on time, the cook was late and my iced tea had at least half a dozen fruit flies in the ice (I realized this after I drank the drink). The waitress brought another drink but I was totally out with my meal. One expects more from a restaurant of your type I would not recommend this restaurant with the current staff (also breakfast menu that you cannot order).”

“Our 3rd visit to this restaurant, first 2 with co-workers and last night on our own. Service has been slow and inattentive each time. Received water, bread, wine and appetizers from pleasant waitress. She returned after an hour to empty the wine into our glasses and go to check up our entries. She then ignored us for 30 minutes after that as did everyone else. We walked our after 90 minutes still hungry, our special evening ruined. Food lacks imagination and overpriced. When you can get a far superior 3 course dinner at Dom's just around the corner.”

“Food was awful, we had food poisoning after leaving here. The service was poor, it was noticed that when people ordered the same thing off the menu, it came to the table differently and in different quantities, the same thing could also be ordered off several different menus for different prices. The waitress was run off her feet trying to serve everyone in the restaurant and outside on the patio.”

“We ate here in Sep 08. Service was horrible. Waitress ignored us most of the time we were there. Requests for beverage refills were ignored and appetizers never arrived. Finally, when I checked my credit card statement a few weeks later, I realized that the waitress had changed my 5% tip to a 10% tip. I was outraged and called the restaurant. The manager refused to speak to me about the matter (said this was restaurant policy - hmmm good indicator that I am not the first this has happened to) and insisted that if I wanted any satisfaction, I needed to speak to the Credit Card company (who credited my account for the amount the waitress stole from me). I have read that the restaurant is being bought by another businessman and will become a different restaurant.”

“The best roast beef I have ever tasted! Terrific location, close to everything with great service and atmosphere. We had a wonderful evening at Fridays.”

“The best Asian inspired food in this end of town. Which is China town. Fresh ingredients, excellent use of spices.”

“Not for vegetarians! The vegetarian offerings are bland, skimpy and overpriced. For example, a single roasted tomato on a thin film of half cold noodles in a ho hum sauce is decidedly not worth $13!”

“Delicious Japanese food. Recommend that you try their set dinner (their version of tasting menu). Sashimi was fresh, sushi was tasty with beautiful presentation, and beef teriyaki was the best I have ever tried. Much good food to mention.”

“The experience of African food is amazing. You get served on a large plate big enough for your group. We were a group of four and our food was all served on one platter with the food onto of this Africa bread. We were to all eat with our hands. It was an interesting experience. We all had fun. .”

“Loved the food and the atmosphere was pleasant. Great to sit down to enjoy food and wine with a good friend. The service however was cold and unwelcoming.”

“Not sure whey this place gets such a high rating, maybe we ordered the wrong thing or went on the wrong night. As an entry we shared the crawfish although we did not like it, it was our first time trying it thus cannot compare or pass judgment. We both had the steak hers came with shrimp. I had as a side fries which were undercooked oven fries, the best thing on my plate was the vegetables (and I'm not a vegetable fan).”

“The meal was cooked precisely to order. If you like your beef solid and tender (with little marbling) you will like Friday's prime rib. The service is super and very accommodating to all people. I felt like I should have been dressed a little more formally for the atmosphere but staff took no notice. ”

“This seems to be a lovely little family run restaurant with great attention paid to both quality of food and service. We had requested a round table when making our reservation for this occasion to allow for better communication and it was provided. We were a party of six business associates/friends for dinner and all agreed it is on the top of the list of great places to eat in Ottawa and we look forward to returning whenever we are in the area. ”

“Our meal, which cost $50 and that was after the coupon, was not really worth the money. Mangia's is a very casual restaurant/bar combo. We both had Seafood Linguine. It consisted of linguine, of course, that was not quite cooked. Not 'al dente' more like 'al chewy'. Not very much sauce, coarsely chopped onion, garlic and plum tomatoes were topped with a handful of mussels, perhaps 5 shrimps, and some broiled, till they were tuff as nails chunks of scallop. $6.50 for a glass of house white, no salad, and two stale, warmed rolls with butter. Our waitress was pleasant. You can eat outside on the sidewalk. Over all, not a good deal for the money.”

“What is more romantic than ice cream. And what could be better than Italian Gelato, the best kind of ice cream. There is something about walking into Piccolo's that really left a lasting impression with myself and my family. I felt like I was a kid again, and the choices of flavors was simply overwhelming. I think I tried at least eight before finally deciding on one, and each and everyone was fantastic. Ice cream should be a comfort food. It makes everything seem better. It reminds of us great moments in our lives, and my lasting memory of Piccolo's, will be of my very happy family, enjoying the best ice cream. Fantastic service, which was friendly and warm. You almost felt like you were friends in their home.”

“Where do I start? The service was amazing. Great waiter. Very attentive. Drinks were never empty for long. The music was great, which made for a fabulous atmosphere. From what I've had on the menu the few times I've been, the food was certainly worth-while. Servings were a good size. Highly recommend it to anyone that's visiting or is just looking for a change. ”

“I went to The Mill expecting the worst...The reviews I was able to find on the web were not very complimentary. I'm happy to report, however, that my husband and I were very pleasantly surprised. We went on a Thursday night at 6:30. The atmosphere was relaxed and romantic. Our server was professional, courteous and helpful. The Mill itself is beautiful, with exposed stone walls. We made reservations, so were seated next to the window overlooking the water. There were perhaps ten other occupied tables. The service was excellent, neither too slow nor too rushed. We were very pleased with the food. There were warm dinner rolls with lots of butter while we waited for our appetizer. My husband ordered the Cajun prime rib that came with baked potato and vegetables. I ordered the lobster tails (2); they came with rice and vegetables and a warmed container of garlic butter. For an appetizer we had the calamari that were served battered and fried and were plentiful enough for us to share. The portions were generous. The lobster was excellent, although my husband noted that his prime rib was leaning more toward medium than medium-rare. The vegetables were perfect...not too crisp, not too soft. We were too full to order dessert. Our server brought us our bill within a few minutes of asking for it. Overall, a delightful experience in a lovely setting. We highly recommend The Mill.”

“The food was only average. The service was terrible. Our waiter was slow and had an attitude. We also overheard a waitress loudly complaining about another waiter. We paid our bill and decided that our waiter did not deserve a tip. On the way out we could not find someone in charge to complain to. Before we got out the door, our waiter chased after us demanding to know why we did not leave a tip. We told him why and left and said we would never return. He said fine with him. My wife and I were upset for the rest of the evening.”

“Great breakfast or lunch joint, and a traditional haunt of the 'got-the-munchies' late night crowd. An Ottawa landmark and justifiably so. Order the eggs-Benny on a bagel if you are Benny fan. Fantastic! Also, the chalk-artwork that doubles as decoration and menus is very entertaining. Wireless internet available.”

“The interior design of the building as a whole is very nice. A combination of contemporary, sleek booths, tables and interior finishes mixed with the unfinished stone walls of the old mill. Tres chic. They also have an atrium with tables that juts out over the river. Regrettably, the menu turns out to be your generic prime rib house served with the usual assortment of over-buttered, boiled to death root vegetables, with nary a green leaf in sight. For an appy, my guest and I shared the only green vegetables on the menu, zucchini sticks, which came battered and deep fried and served with a vat of sour cream. For a moment I thought I was in a rural northern bar and tried to order a jug of Labette Blue. For entrees, I had the chicken breast, over-poached in white wine, smothered in a bland white sauce, covered in asparagus and cheese. My guest had garlic sauteed tiger shrimp, straight from the box, I think. The piece de la resistance came, however, when the dessert menu appeared. It was a plastic-laminated sheet with pictures of cakes, like you get in Denny's. I refused on principle to order anything, but my guest went for the tiramisu, which was a mistake. It was basically sponge cake with topping. The whole experience revived memories of my university days, not the good memories, like drinking beer with friends and seeing bands. But the bad memories of being so poor I had to eat the crap food in the residence cafeteria. The only difference was that this time I shelled out $100 instead of just $10. ”

“Always a reliable place for good music , good food , good drinks. Try the dumplings everyone seems to order them. They make them fresh every day and they are AMAZING. The apple martini is a great drink to accompany the meal. Not a great place for dessert but they do have a great variety of fresh fruit drinks and coffees.”
