“We were not seated, we were pointed to our seats. When asked about the menu, waiter was actually upset. The food portions are quite big, quite salty for my taste buds. The service however is horrendous. No smile, no welcome, it is almost like you should feel fortunate just to be served. The worst thing being, when my wife went to the restroom, a rat ran past her. That gave her quite a fright.”

“Have been going to Fernando's since 2001 now and agree with some of the other reviews here, that though the food is very good, the service has deteriorated a lot. The sheer arrogance of the staff is annoying.”

“Since 1999, I used to go to Fernando's several times. However the attitude of the waiters especially the owners is getting worse and worse. Last April we found a cockroach in our Sangria. The junior owner did not even bother to say sorry. It was really embarrassing, since we had guests from overseas visiting us the first time in Hong Kong and we told our guests that we will have a very nice dinner during our trip to Macau. Food is great, but attitude is getting worse compare to earlier years. Cockroaches can happen, but what bothers is that not even a sorry was said. A British lady who lives at Hac Sa since 2001 said she used to go there often before. Since recent years she isn't enjoying going there often, because especially the junior owner gives guests the feeling that they are not really welcome. Attitude is: 'we got enough guests waiting every day. If you are unsatisfied and stay away does no harm to us'.”

“Staff is slow, the manager is rude and the food really isn't anything to write home about.”

“This is a great place to eat particularly if you are craving for some Western food. Everything is served piping hot if its meant to be and always delicious and tasty. The restaurant is small but always busy which speaks for itself. Equally popular with Chinese, Portuguese and Westerns. The custard tarts are 'out of this world' and a mouthwatering experience. They are the only real custard tarts of Macau the rest are very 2nd rate look alike. A second cafe is soon to be opened across the road by the same owner by popular demand, no wonder. Don't miss this place off your itinerary. The choices are quite extensive too and you can even have the glass of beer or wine as well as a selection of teas, coffees, and cool drinks. Oh and don't forget the Yogurts and fruit cake, very yummy if not on a diet.”

“I had a night out in the Fernado's just a couple of days ago on the weekdays. It was a mid summer night in mid of June 2006, mosquito and moths were flying above my head while I was eating. I was told by my colleague that this is The place in Macau for dinning but I was utterly disappointed. Although the prices are fair it does not stand out from the average Portuguese restaurants found in Macau, e.g. the A Lorcha, The Military Club and the Pinnochio, etc. The owner of Fernando tried to create a countryside ambient but with all these insects hovering above your head, I don't know about you, I did not enjoy my meal. All I can say is that this restaurant is overrated and I have been to a lot better country style restaurant that end up paying less.”

“The atmosphere is everything - not to say the food is secondary, but with the island sea breeze wafting though the dining area, it's difficult to remember the meal itself. Lots of people, lots of wait staff, much to choose from on the menu. The dining area is well lit and large, meaning it's not well-suited for a quiet or romantic meal, rather for enjoying the total experience, including people watching.”

“Lordstone's bakery is the only place to get the best traditional Egg Custards in Macau! not only that but they also the only place that does freshly made sandwiches which I know doesn't sound much but when you cant get a decent sandwich anywhere its a godsend. Likely the owner has 2 other cafe's in macau. one in the city centre which is near dd's the nightclub!”

“some of the best food I have ever tasted. clams, pork ribs, sardines were all exceptional. well worth the drive to the far-side of the island ( by the Westin hotel). A must when visiting Macau!”
