User Reviews for Glasgow Restaurants« Go back to Indialantic RestaurantsResearch User Reviews for Glasgow (1-11 of 11)Mother India
“Have been a regular diner at Mother India for a number of years. So much so, that I don't mind the 14 mile round trip. Bought a take-away on Saturday and was really disappointed (for the first time). First of all, the pakora was at least a 1/3 smaller than the usual Glasgow sized portions. 2 portions of rice were crammed into one dish. The 2 main courses were very disappointing - Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Tikka Mahkni. Both were lacking in taste and seasoning, the tikka was very poor. The Mahkni sauce was extremely watery and tasteless. Don't know whether I'll be back or not as it is easily bettered by the local 3-in-1. Living on past reputations is not good enough - once the good name is tarnished it's very hard to win customers back.”

“Overpriced and only poor to average food. Staff was rude and almost threatening when it was pointed out the pizza topping was cold. Charge service for more than 5 people but do not provide any certainly will not be back.”

“Agree with previous review, but now closed down. Sad as really good food, cheap and value for money. Bring back the canton.”

“Cheap and cheerful, food is good, so is the portion sizes, although comes across as quite dirty! The toilets upstairs are a put off, viewing the storage of the rice, noodle etc. dont really want to see that side. Good late opening times sit in or takeaway. Use it quite frequently. Used to go to the canton on the opposite side of road, same again good food, cheap and not the cleanest of looking. Problem why no longer open.”

“I and four friends had dinner on 15th December 2007. The staff was lovely, and the food was tasty but cold. Our soup was cold and had to be reheated, our turkey dinner was cold and had to be reheated and the wrong dessert came. Because of this they gave us 30% of our wine. Which was a lovely gesture but when they gave us the bill they had overcharged for the wine by 50%. That was corrected of course with a smile and a discount, but I will not be returning. The problem seems to have been with the chef not plating the food at the right time.”

“Cafe India-Merchant City-amazing! My boyfriend and I recently went to Cafe India in its brand new location in the Merchant City area of Glasgow (It is no longer in the location stated on my travel-those premises burned down). It is now in 29 Albion Street. My friend had been the week before and highly recommended it to me and we had a wonderful evening celebrating my boyfriends birthday. The food was absolutely delicious-I had the Bombay mussels to start with and my boyfriend had the grilled smoked salmon. He loved it and devoured every bit. The mussels were fantastic too. For mains, I had Jingha south Indian prawns. My mouth is watering just now thinking about it. The dish was complete perfection. Overall, I can do nothing but praise Cafe India. Amazing food, a warm, opulent atmosphere and great staff who ensured we had a fantastic evening.10/10!”

“We went to the "chip" expecting very big things from it, when we arrived we were very disappointed, the menu was certainly imaginative, but to be honest it was adequate, nothing more nothing less. The staff were incredibly surly. We waited 15 minutes to order, there were three other people in the restaurant and 4 waiters. We then waited another 20 minutes for our food. We ordered a second bottle of wine and had to ask a second time (after waiting 20 minutes and having our main course delivered) to get it to our table. And finally our bill was incorrect and without an apology of any kind our bill was "re-adjusted". Don't believe the hype there are much better restaurants in the West End of Glasgow with better food, better atmosphere and certainly better service.”

“We visited the cafe as part of the Glasgow Jazz Festival. They advertised "Family Jazz Cafe" at 3.15 on the first Saturday. This seemed ideal and we were looking forward to a laid back, enjoyable afternoon sampling some good music food and perhaps some of the flavored, iced Vodkas that were on offer. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by badly flavored, iced reception that got chillier as the afternoon progressed. This is definitely not a place to take kids and they make no secret of this fact. The experience was one I am trying to forget. The only eye contact from our waiter was nothing short of a contemptuous glower and his tone was sarcastic and off-hand. We will be going elsewhere in the future. For anyone with kids, Glasgow is fantastic, I lived in and around the city all of my life and the majority of restaurants will welcome you warmly but this place was about as welcoming as a Siberian salt mine. ”

“Having traveled all the way from a trailer park in Little Rock, Arkansas in the good ole US of A, did not find this to me particular like, they had no fried chicken, no dumpling, no gravy sauce and I'll be darned no cotton pick in Grits, just what kin of Italian restaurant are these people running! ”

“My experience in this cafe as a sit-down customer was appalling on a whole. The atmosphere was generally unfriendly and priority was clearly given to takeaway customers. ”

“You will be hard - put to find better tasting food or greater value for money, than in the Canton Express. Served piping hot, and prepared in minutes before your eyes. However, this gourmet delight is not a venue for the faint hearted I am still at a loss as to how they ever achieved their license to sell food. The uncooked meats are often visible lying on the floor though one of the many ante-rooms which lead to the disgusting dingle seat toilet, located 4 floors below. The seating is ripped and held together with brown tape, but other than that, this is top tucker! ”
