Mud Dock
Jun 22, 2009 by Chris from Bristol

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Choice of beers and good food.
  • Customer service.

“We have been to Mud Dock plenty of times before, and in the past have had good experiences. Before I would always recommend this venue to friends and family. Yesterday we had family down, so decided to take them to Mud Dock for a meal and a few drinks. We noticed that none of the tables were big enough for our group, so proceeded to move 2 tables closer together. Immediately a blond polish waitress appeared and started shouting at us, telling us to move the tables back now!, and never ever move tables closer together! I was pretty gob smacked, and almost couldnt believe she was being serious, as Ive not been spoken to in such a manor for many years. In-fact the last time I was spoken to like this was when I was given detention at school. We explained that the tables were out of the way, and that our group wanted to sit together. She just reiterated what she said shouting at us as if we had just done something illegal. Needless to say we all left with a very sour taste in our mouths, and are very unlikely to return again. Mud Docks customer service has obviously drastically gone down hill in recent months. Thanks to her attitude she lost Mud Dock our custom and I advice everyone to give this venue a miss until they train staff the fine art of customer service.”

Boston Tea Party
Jan 4, 2009 by Eleimon from Bristol

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[7] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great atmosphere.
  • Veggie breakfasts.

“Went there on New Year's Day and in their defense was a bit busy. That does not however mean that they should lower the standards of their dishes or anything like that. We ordered a ham, cheese and tomato panini, which was tasty, although there was not one discerning flavor and a veggie breakfast, which my girlfriend (a veggie with a healthy appetite!) did not finish. The scrambled eggs were unseasoned, the sweet potato did not even look inviting, while the rest was just blunt all put together in a small plate. The atmosphere on a good day is pretty romantic and the decor inspires either couples to come in and gaze at the rest of the world or lonely hearts to read a book in the big comfortable sofas.”

Boston Tea Party
Mar 1, 2008 by H from Yate

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The food was wonderful.
  • The toilet sink was overflowing & no changing facilities.

“Went for Sunday breakfast. The menu had so many nice things to choose from. The food arrived quickly and was beautifully cooked. The fried breakfast was not greasy, the toast was hot, the egg and tomato on toast was lovely. The Irish cream cappacino was as good as Starbucks and the fruit smoothie was a wonderful drink for my 2 year old.”

Bell's Diner
Jan 14, 2008 by Roger from Bristol

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Atmosphere, just like a French Bistro.
  • Need more space.

“We were excited about our visit to what has a reputation as the "best" in Bristol, but disappointed with the Scallop Starter, not impressed with my over baked Halibut main and even more upset when the waiter failed to report back from the Chef after my wife complained about her chewy steak, not impressed! Desserts were delicious, but will not visit again.”

Boston Tea Party
Oct 29, 2007 by Jo from Gloucester

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Good produce.
  • Length of wait, rude and incompetent staff.

“Sunday morning breakfast, it was busy and we had to wait over 50 minutes for basic breakfast. Other people were complaining and some asked for their money back after being served food that had gone cold. Our food was cold by the time it got to us. We had to ask 3 times for knives, there weren't any in the dispensers and apparently every one that they had in the cafe was in the dishwasher so we ate with a metal fork and a wooden knife. Not even an acknowledgement or apology for the length of time taken or that we had had any problems. The food might have been good if it wasn't so cold and I had been able to enjoy it without being so angry about the service. The staff was slow, incompetent and rude with it.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Nice produce.
  • Everything else.

“Went for breakfast on Sunday. The food, although cold by the time it got to us, tasted really good. Completely spoilt by the length of time we had to wait, being served cold sausages, bacon and tomato with hot scrambled eggs, rude and unfriendly service, and incompetent waiting staff, . Heard other people moaning about how long their food was taking our breakfast took just over 50 minutes, it was just a breakfast! Also saw other people getting their money back and leaving after being served food that had gone cold.”

Rocotillos
Oct 6, 2007 by robert from hammers

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Going to Browns across the road for a cocktail.
  • Awful. Cold burgers etc. Undercooked cheese on 'cheesy wedges'.

“I ordered a Veg burger (x2) The food was cold including the chips. Side salad was warm. Luckily Browns was across the road for a nice cocktail. One of the worst meals Ive had in a long time. I used to work in a kitchen so I know what its like when idiots like me complain. So no hard feeling or anything personal to the friendly staff. (Thats why I didnt complain, how terribly British of me). I was fuming when I came out of there! Had to be talked down by my Wife. I wish all the staff the best though. Its hard working in those environments. Pay raises to all kitchen/food staff!”

Henry Africa's Hothouse
Aug 23, 2007 by Kelly from Bristol

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[7] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • The food was lovely.
  • The service was a little poor.

“It was very hot inside and whilst the waiters/waitress' were generally polite, they didnt keep check on whether you wanted another drink, they took a long time to take our orders and they didnt ask if the food was ok. The description wasnt 100% clear on the dessert menu and the person I was with at the time is a celiac and the dessert came with a brownie. This was very difficult to explain to the manager who didnt seem to speak very clear English. Previously they had double booked our table also and didnt offer anything as a gesture of good will. Its nice but not for a romantic / special dinner for 2.”

Mud Dock
Jul 30, 2007 by Lars from Delfzijl

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[5] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Location.
  • Did not feel that welcome.

“Bar man took his time chatting before serving me and the waitress avoided me when I pointed out my order wasn't what I ordered. The food was nice enough, but it would have been nicer to have eaten what I had ordered from the menu.”

Mud Dock
Feb 18, 2006 by Jeff from Bath, UK

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Atmosphere: warm, friendly, relaxed.
  • Nothing.

“What is the best thing about Mud Dock? It has to be atmosphere. Laid back, warm and friendly. That and its superb location overlooking the water and is a stone-throw from the centre of town. Oh, and the bike shop down stairs, the influence of which can be seen throughout the building with bikes hanging from the rafters of the cafe and pictures of Lance Armstrong in the toilets. The food is rather good too. From great-value breakfasts and lunches through to an eclectic evening menu with a strong Mediterranean influence. Visit in the morning and go back again in the evening for two very different takes on the same theme. We love the place, but we are lucky as we are pretty local, so we can go there on a regular basis. If you are just visiting the area, if you miss Mud Dock you miss something that really does sum up what Bristol is all about.”

Planet Pizza
May 5, 2005 by Dave L . from Bristol

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Huge portions, freshly prepared and cooked. One of those places where all generations feel at home.
  • Not really any cons. Careful with the doggy bags - they are not leakproof.

“Bargain time is Sunday-Wednesday 5pm-7pm when you get two pizzas for the price of one. Guaranteed you will need a doggy bag, which is willingly provided on request. Pizza toppings are generous and there's a good selection for both meat eaters and veggies. Usually a little wait 'cos it's all prepared to order. If you like olives and find it a lottery in England where they can be washed out in brine, try a very pleasant bowl here while you wait at a reasonable price. This place is just as great outside in the street on a sunny day as it is inside, where it can be very full and lively.”
