“Lively and warm restaurant, to be promptly seated at our table with drinks being served immediately. The staff was attentive all evening and the food was excellent. This was definitely one of the best again.”

• Location.
• Food.

“What a waste of a great window view location of Botanic Avenue. Again, this restaurant was good some years ago. I've been twice again over the past year to give it the benefit of the doubt but both time the food was awful. The sauce was like it came out of a packet like curry flavored Bisto. The chicken seem like it had been cooked separately and the gruel poured on top. Apart from the food all else is fine but whats the point if the foods not good.”

“A gem Darcy's we found by accident. The first place in Belfast we found that has excellent traditional Irish food. A great atmosphere staff very friendly the place has an appeal for tourists.”

• Long wait between courses.

“Fantastic Food, but make sure you're not too hungry before you go. We knew the portions wouldn't be huge but why wait at least half an hour between courses? When you go to pay premium prices you expect premium service.”

• Can think of nothing positive to say about this café.
• Standard of hygiene, attitude of staff.

“Was there today. My partner got a big black hair in her food. When we pointed this out to the manager, she looked at both of us (to make sure neither of us had dark hair) and said "it's only a little hair" (which it wasn't). My partner said that it was still unacceptable, the manager replied "it's not as if it is a beetle, or something". My partner asked her if she would like to receive her food in this way. No apology. No going back for us!”

• Staff friendly and didn't have to wait too long.
• Decor is a bit bland in main restaurant.

“Was in restaurant at lunchtime with friends, tried to "sizzling beef & bird" which was awesome. Friends were delighted also. Great value for money and will definitely be back.”

• Very poor attitude by the manager.

“Good food, decent atmosphere but horrendous attitude by some of the staff. Some of us are asked to leave because we 'have been here for too long' Plates and glasses were cleared off the table before the whole table finish eating. The manager even said 'finish your food and get out'. Very disappointed!”

• Nice food.
• Terrible service. Waitresses need to look for another job. Not in the hospitality business.

“The food here is great, the steaks in particular are tasty and cheap with choice of side dishes. Unfortunately, no matter how yummy the food is (they do a good fry as well), it will always be tainted by the absolutely terrible, yes, terrible service. I have never is my life come across waitresses that really do not want to be there. I have left there on more than one occasion feeling insulted, having been shouted at not to sit in a booth when there were two of us, being interrupted when I was ordering, no pleases or thank you, and generally a look of distaste from her the entire service. Totally spoiled our dining.”

• Music, lighting, atmosphere, drinks (cocktails) everything!
• Queues in toilets. Dates all!

• Nice, friendly atmosphere with superb understated food.
• Can be really busy on weekend nights.

“Hadn't been to McHugh's in a while, because of all the work going on down there with that new square, but it's still as great as it was when I use to go before that. Their food is consistently good and I like the wok place on the first floor where they can cook in front of you. Some of the older faces have left but there are still some really pleasant staff there now and James who served us the night I was there was fantastic.”

• The tea pots were small, but sometimes you got to fill them up again! Yeow.

“The ballad of bewley's (the tea house). Situated in the heart of Belfast, Bewley's was a lovely little place to have a nice quiet cup of tea in. However, in March 2006, Bewley's changed to the 'Tiki Cafe' and closed their upstairs seating, to which many people, myself included, were disappointed. This lead to Bewley's loosing more than half of their dedicated customers (and dignity). So, if you miss Bewley's like I do, go to Delaney's (across the road). It isn't Bewley's, it doesn't look as dirty, and the staff are friendly and polite, but it has one cup of tea. Dedicated to 'Pole', 'Two-Cups'; 'Hulk'; 'Curly-Bap' and 'Piercy' who worked there. ”
