  • Leaving.
  • Everything else.

“Hugely overpriced $8 for a burger that was worse quality than from any of the major chains. Kitchen looked filthy, toilets were terrible and no baby changing facility.”

Sally Lunn's Tea Rooms
Jan 24, 2008 by mark from stevenage

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Novelty, waiter service.
  • Poor congested passage ways: one way in one way out.

“Most small places dont cater well for large groups. Sally Lunns is no exception. There are three floors with occasional tables and seating. It is busy around lunchtime. Go without expecting to eat straight away and be prepared to wait (outside/ in entrance lobby) and a pleasant meal can be savored at your leisure. Once seated there is no haste to be moved on. I went to taste the bun; yet left after tea, main meal and scummy pudding. Whilst the food is more expensive than say a little chef, you are paying for more than just the food: service, novelty, atmosphere etc. The basement - 4 sq meter - museum had static displays and showed history floor levels. Otherwise it had not a lot to recommend apart from that is where buns are bought to take away. The buns/flavored butters were great and freeze/keep well.”

Sally Lunn's Tea Rooms
Nov 29, 2007 by John from Richmond, North Yorkshire

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Service, food & surroundings.
  • Weather!

“We had a few days in Bath and discovered this great little restaurant. The weather was appalling but we were immediately made welcome as we walked through the door. We had a lovely meal; the staff looked after us well and the surroundings intriguing. If we get back to Bath, this place will be on our list for a revisit.”

Hole in the Wall (The)
Nov 12, 2007 by Bathonian from Bath

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[8] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Quality of the food.
  • Service.

“We were a little nonplussed to find that we had to wait around for five minutes before anyone attended to us at the reception desk. We booked a table the day before, but were a little disappointed to be shown to a table right by the entrance (later on, we had to request that a door be closed because there was a cool draught there). Having sat down we then waited nearly twenty minutes before I decided to get up and ask a waiter for a menu and whether we could have a drink. These were rapidly supplied with apologies. Following that, the food and service were pretty good, although one of the waiters unfortunately had dreadful BO. The only other problem was the presence of a noisy and well oiled birthday party in the restaurant, with raucous laughter every couple of minutes. I eventually asked the waiters to request that the birthday group keep the noise down a little, and they did so. However, the staff should have thought of doing these themselves, since the noise was very distracting. Overall, given that this is a long established restaurant, it was a little disappointing on the service and atmosphere side, but the food was fine. I left a small tip and will probably choose to go elsewhere before returning to the hole in the wall.”

Bathtub Bistro (The)

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Everything.

“Dont go. Rubbish. I had to phone the bar from my table to get a drink. The wrong food came out, the coffees arrived before the dessert and when I wanted to complain they said the manager was to busy to see me!”

Bathtub Bistro (The)
Jun 29, 2006 by steve from bristol

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[4] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • The quirky nature of the building.
  • Food and service.

“Avoid at all costs . During the week the service is slow if non existent . The waiting staff (1 person) was unable to cope with more than a few tables being occupied and the kitchen were incapable of delivering all the food at the same time to a table of more than 2 people. In fact it was 20 minutes between the time a main course arrived and the vegetables arrived. A number of the orders were forgotten and the quality of the food for what is being charged is poor. All in all if you are a party of more than 2 people go elsewhere.”

Hole in the Wall (The)
Apr 18, 2006 by Laurence from London UK

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Wine List
  • Service, Food, Attitude of some of the waiting staff.

“A string of favorable reviews and an enticing menu meant that our visit to The Hole in the Wall held great promise. Unfortunately it failed to deliver. An air of disorganization was apparent from the moment we walked through the door as two of the waiting staff attempted to track down the evening's reservation list whilst struggling to relieve us of our jackets.

The menu was tempting and the initial flurry of service was good if a little hurried and unfriendly. Starters scored average (sorrel and garlic soup) to good (barberry duck and rhubarb) but the wheels fell off when we got to the main courses. The pork steak was pink in the middle and the lamb shank was not just undercooked and tough but positively cold. The waiter's response was argumentative and unapologetic, apparently no restaurant in the world could do it better (funny as no restaurant I have ever been to has done it worse). Sadly, his attitude was just an extension of the overall atmosphere among the waiting staff who had been openly arguing with each other for the past hour.

The cold lamb was duly replaced with a bland (but thankfully cooked) chicken dish and didn't dare to appear on the bill but needless to say that we didn't order dessert or coffee. In fact, we were glad to leave the whole unpleasant experience behind us as soon as possible. Hopefully this is just a one-off bad experience and not a taste of things to come...
