Garage Cafe

This newish bar tries to cram everything in at once: there's upscale dining with quality wines, a big screen to watch the football on and also nights of wild and crazy disco dancing. This place is a favourite for young Hungarians with cash to flash.

This multi-level bar could have come straight out of Greenwich Village, New York. Industrial lamps cast light on old black and white photos of motors on the wall. The auto motif continues with headers, pistons, a muffler pipe and a 'service' sign. Even the toilets are marked with a nut and bolt to designate the sex. Loud techno music and a bustling clientele mean this place is not for the faint-hearted. It is packed on football nights, which sometimes unfortunately coincide with disco Wednesdays.

Despite the designer burger bar-style decor, the menu has higher pretensions and offers some interesting dishes, although you can still get a plain steak. There is also Caesar salad, cream of salmon soup, Tex-Mex ribs and fried carp. The best part is that hints on the menu suggest which wine would best accompany your chosen dish. Main courses cost between HUF 1200 and HUF 2500. Wines cost from HUF 1800.
