Al Dente309 Calle Recinto Sur, San Juan, PRTel: (787) 723-7303 Al Dente is one of the loveliest places in the Old City, offering exquisite Italian cuisine in a colonial Spanish setting. This unpretentious restaurant has a decor that evokes a trattoria similar to those found in Palermo, Italy. One might sample the scallops on a bed of spinach, gnocchi with pesto, or well-seasoned calamari. The chef also makes his own desserts, including cheesecake, tiramisu and chocolate tortes. Brochettes of fresh tuna laced with pepper and Mediterranean herbs are an excellent choice. Nearly all dishes are genuinely satisfying, and the restaurant delivers quality food at a reasonable price.

“I used the restroom after lunch and was upset that there was no soap to wash my hands. We returned for drinks and some dessert after 6 pm. Again I needed to use the restroom. It was occupied; so, I had to wait. Our waitress/bartender exited the restroom. I was shocked to see that there still was no soap in the restroom. Now we are hearing about swine flu. I do not think that washing hands after using the restroom should be a luxury and it should definitely be a requirement for employees of a food establishment.”

“I have cooked since I was a child, it is my Zen now. I'm Italian American. I was astounded by the poor service; unfriendly and ungiving; and the quality of the dishes: horrible. My fish smelled of ammonia, the salad was an over greased, fatty bacon affair, over dripping with fat. I was charged for a side of pasta, even though my smelly fish went back to the kitchen. This dining experience was a real disappointing disaster. Dining solo, at the bar, I would have expected some friendly repartee from the bartender. I needed to ask for both water (for which I was charged) and bread with my meal. The bartender's utterances were: I am here for you. She was horrible. Find a little hole in the wall; youd do much better.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Popular Restraurants in San JuanView all restaurants in San Juan
