Cajun Charlie's

200 Barclay Parade SW, (Eau Claire Market), Calgary, AB, Canada

The winter wind and snow of Calgary is about as far removed from the Louisiana Bayou as you can get, but as soon as you walk into Cajun Charlie's and the sizzle of frying catfish hits you, you're right there on the banks of the Mississippi. The food is traditional Southern fare, featuring crawfish, chicken-fried shrimp and other classics. Comprised of two sections separated by the bar, the dining area and the Voodoo Lounge are decorated in dark, smoky wood. The waiters are dressed in turn-of-the-century costume, and are exceedingly polite. The prices here are possibly the best downtown—although it caters to a mostly corporate crowd, a hefty meal of grilled catfish will only cost about CAD 6.

Located in the Eau Claire Market.

  • Leaving the restaurant.
  • Everything was horrible!

“Salad was withered and dressing was watery. Waitress talked and only visited our table to unceremoniously toss my platter on the table, irritated that I would not agree to order the buffet.”

  • All.

“We have spent plenty of time cooking authentic Cajun food with friends from Louisiana and eating Cajun food on the Gulf Coast and running cooking contests. On our first and last trip here these charlatans tried to fob off dried out old fried rice that tasted like it had been doused in soy sauce as Jambalaya. It was absolute rubbish and anyone who cooked such garbage in Louisiana would be bound up in monofilament line and dragged out into the Gulf behind a shrimper as shark bait.”

  • The whole encounter, re-vamp!

“Thee worst server I ever met, man looked like he needed to be put out of his misery, the ceaser salad had the biggest pieces of salad ever, hardly dressed to. Not impressed what so ever, what a waste of a Sunday.”
