This place is a real hidden gem. The tiny bar entrance disguises a larger, superbly appointed pub and wine bar behind, all recently renovated in its original early-Victorian splendour. It must be one of the best places in town for gourmet pub lunches as it's extremely popular. The extensive menu boasts traditional English cuisine, including Mr Thomas's famous onion soup at #3.95. The average cost of a main meal is around #9.95, while salads are available at #8.95 and there is a good selection of desserts. There are always special wine offers - such as a glass of Chilean Andes Peak Sauvignon Blanc for #2.50. Boddingtons costs about #1.70 a pint and there is a range of guest beers available at around #2.
