Opened in the middle of 1997, Polar has become a highly popular part of the Chorlton cafe-bar scene. With its laid-back staff, stylish ambience and air of subtle trendiness, it is one of those rare places that manages to be both sophisticated, super-cool and warm and cosy all at the same time. The food and drink is also of superb quality and reasonably priced. Choices are varied and cosmopolitan, and the printed menu includes dishes such as red bean and vegetable goulash with chive mash (#6.75) and some unusual open sandwiches for around #5. Wines start from #10 a bottle and various draught beers and lagers (including Stella Artois and Hoegaarden) are also available.
