Lead Station (The)

99 Beech Road, Chorlton, Manchester, United Kingdom

Scandinavian-style sophistication abounds in this popular cafe-bar, housed in what was once a Victorian police station. The walls and murals are done out in primary colours and there is a garden at the back for summer socialising. In winter, log fires help warm up proceedings. A range of food is available, including sandwiches such as poached salmon with dill mayonnaise for around #4. Starters include Caesar salad. For main course, you should try the Lead Station bangers and mash with onion confit and red wine gravy for #6.50. Wines cost between #10 and #35 a bottle and draught beers include San Miguel.

  • Food ok.
  • Scottish waitress 0/10.

“Hey, we enjoyed an OK meal, wine was also good, but the whole evening was spoiled by a rude waitress, small Scottish, you kind of got the feeling who was doing who the favor? There are so many cool places to eat and drink in Charlton and Didsbury the Lead Station will be off our list from now on. Sorry this lady needs her P45 she really isn't doing your restaurant any favors. ”

  • The fascinating people & really excellent food.
  • Virtually nothing.

“Arrived at a busy time-7.30pm on a Friday evening, but greeted by friendly staff & shown to our table straight away. A sensible number of choices on the menu, implying freshly cooked there & then. Service was a little slow, but it was peak time & the food was outstanding, with a delicious veggie strudel & to-die-for choc truffle as a food. Generous but not overwhelming portions & a mere A#60 including tip for three people. (Main, food, bottle of wine & coffee.) Enquiring, intelligent faces & a clientele of individual, arty style. Intriguing! Will definitely be back.”
