  • Warm and friendly Irish welcome.
  • Nothing!

“This is a classic Irish pub, untouched for years. He made us thoroughly welcome. Food as it is basic, only a snack menu of toasted sandwiches, soup and rolls. Beer is kept well. Two large screens for any sports that are on. The upstairs function room has music or comedy every night of the week. We went to both and they were great. It's not a family pub, and it's not a romantic pub, but it is great friendly staff and customers make it a great place to stop by for some authentic Irish hospitality.”

  • Would not want this taken out of context.
  • Greedy management looking for the quick buck, "Irish hospitality" non-existent in this place.

“June 2006: We went to the Ha Penny Pub on a Friday night looking for traditional music. Our guide did not feel like drinking that night, and was asked to order up or leave- even though he'd brought in about 10 of us who had already ordered drinks. In my opinion, this was rude and very short-sighted on the manager's part (For the price of a beer, he may well have lost all future referrals from this guide.) Once the music started, it was so over-amplified that the sound was distorted, and not at all enjoyable, although the musicians were first-rate. As we left in disgust, we realized that the music was so loud it could be heard a block away- obviously the management's intent was to pack in every possible person who would buy a drink before they realized the sound was intolerable. In two weeks of visiting pubs all around Ireland, this place stood out as the absolute worst.”
