Mud Dock40 The Grove, Bristol, United KingdomWeb: Visit this site » Winner of Cafe of the Year in 1998, this unique place is a bike shop downstairs and an acclaimed cafe-bar upstairs. Check out the industrial-style decor, complete with bikes hanging from the ceiling, and try to bag one of the best seats - by the enormous round window or on the roof terrace, boasting wonderful views over the docks. During the day it's fairly quiet (except at weekends) and mellow, getting louder and busier at nights, when it becomes full of Bristol's beautiful young things, and there's the occasional DJ set. A great place for a leisurely breakfast, lunch or evening meal, there's a tapas menu, snacks and main meals, all inspired by Mediterranean flavours. It's good quality, if slightly overpriced and service can be painfully slow. There's also a fully licensed bar (beware, all spirits are only served in doubles!), coffees, teas, juices and probably the best hot chocolate in Bristol.

“Bar man took his time chatting before serving me and the waitress avoided me when I pointed out my order wasn't what I ordered. The food was nice enough, but it would have been nicer to have eaten what I had ordered from the menu.”

“What is the best thing about Mud Dock? It has to be atmosphere. Laid back, warm and friendly. That and its superb location overlooking the water and is a stone-throw from the centre of town. Oh, and the bike shop down stairs, the influence of which can be seen throughout the building with bikes hanging from the rafters of the cafe and pictures of Lance Armstrong in the toilets. The food is rather good too. From great-value breakfasts and lunches through to an eclectic evening menu with a strong Mediterranean influence. Visit in the morning and go back again in the evening for two very different takes on the same theme. We love the place, but we are lucky as we are pretty local, so we can go there on a regular basis. If you are just visiting the area, if you miss Mud Dock you miss something that really does sum up what Bristol is all about.” 2 of 5 people found this review helpful.Popular Restraurants in BristolView all restaurants in Bristol
