As soon as the first rays of sun announce the end of the winter, locals head out of the city in droves. And many of them end up in this traditional beer garden, a leafy oasis with stunning views of the River Rhine. Situated north of the city, Brand's Jupp is popular with walkers, cyclists and day-trippers who pop in for refreshments after a day out. The coffee (EUR 2.80), cake (EUR 2-3) and hearty local dishes like sauerbraten (braised beef, EUR 14) are sure fire ways to regain your strength after an energetic walk. If the weather is bad or the beer garden is full, there is plenty of space in the bistro, which is decorated in typical Rhineland style. The German wine (EUR 5.50 per glass) is excellent.
