Antonio Tufaro's faithful group of regulars are still mourning the loss of their beloved pint-size restaurant, Il Porto, but are slowly giving in to the charm of its talented owner's new venture, Il Portone. Situated in the glass-fronted Stadttor, the new restaurant is furnished in contemporary style although the menu is as traditional as ever. The classic Italian dishes are of a consistently high standard, as are the wonderful antipasti (EUR 15). Popular with politicians and other local celebrities, the restaurant also caters to less affluent customers, with pizzas available for just EUR 3.50-9 and a glass of red wine for EUR 3.30.
