Restaurant RomerbembelRömerberg 20-22, City, Frankfurt, GermanyTel: +49 69 288383 Located on the main square in the historical Altstadt (Old Town), this very popular and traditional restaurant is an equally apt stop-off point for a hot Apfelwein (apple wine) as it to enjoy a plate of good, home-style German food. Specials on the menu change frequently, but you will usually find such items as meat casseroles, cutlets, sausages, hearty soups, salads and thick, juicy beef-steaks served with fried potatos. The Bembel, which the restaurant is named after, is the traditional vessel from which Apfelwein is served, and this hot, spicy (and vaguely alcoholic!) drink must be sampled! One needn't expect to part with collossal amounts of money to eat in one of the older restaurants in the Altstadt. The average 3-course meal ought to cost no more than EUR 20 per head, excluding drinks. This is a good value place to eat, and it's also a wonderful location.
