Scoozzi Trattoria and Wine Bar

Scoozzi Trattoria and Wine Bar

1104 Chapel St, New Haven, CT

Whether you enter from the street level via elevator or from the terrace below, Scoozzi's will delight and surprise you. Despite its location in a post-modern concrete structure, the interior is warm and bright, with a funky vegetable mural in the main dining area. The menu starts with innovative salads and pizzettes and moves on to creative pastas, risottos and a variety of meats and seafood as the main dishes. There is a jazz brunch on Sundays, and great outdoor seating in warm weather for people watching. Cigar smokers are welcome on the patio in the summer.

  • The food is original, fresh, and wonderfully prepared.
  • About the only negative is the size of the dining room; it's quite small.

“If you don't mind small quarters off-season, Scoozi could be your answer for modern, Americanized Italian fare. I've been there several times over the last year or two, and each time the food was excellent. Greens and vegetables were crisp, oils were judiciously applied, and meat and fish were delicious. try the Lobster Ravioli for melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The wine list is fairly sized and balanced between Italin and American vintages.

In the warm season, Scoozi has an outdoor patio which is very private, several levels below that of the street, and is decorated tastefully. It's great for sipping a bottle of sparklin Asti with a cheeze plate.”
