Sahara East184 First Avenue, (between 11th and 12th streets), New York City, NYTel: (212) 353-9000 This East Village restaurant is essentially a pretty garden with tables, as well as plenty of good food. Try the lamb and couscous, served on a terracotta plate. Wine is available, but the best experience is reserved for smokers-they can order a hookah, an elaborate water pipe taller than your table. There is a choice of honey or apple tobacco (the honey is stronger). Belly dancers are there to perform on some nights as well. Cash only.
