For 27 years, the Astral Plane in Center City has been serving Philadelphia's locals as well as visitors from other cities. This theatrical enclave is a bohemian respite for actors, writes and directors, including Mick Jagger, Bette Midler, Patty Duke, Celine Dion and George Clooney. Soft music, candlelight and fresh flowerets enhance the cuisine. Special entrees include Maxfield Parrish's Blue Salad (spinach salad with blue cheese, raisins, apples and walnuts), Hana's Chicken stuffed with cornbread and pecans mushrooms and a pecan-encrusted salmon filet with maple syrup sauce.

  • Intimate setting.
  • Food, service, everything.

“After reading and hearing from various people that this restaurant was a good choice for a large group of friends, for an intimate celebratory dinner I was very disappointed at the food, the quality of service, and absolute disorganization when it even came to taking orders!! First, the chicken dish came back so undercooked the entire inside was pink. Only to return the plate back claiming the product was cooked, but you couldn't tell because they poured so much gravy on top that the chicken was indistinguishable from the potatoes. Another person's rare ah tuna, was guaranteed by the waitress and the server to be absolutely rare, mean while, there was barely an inch of pink to be seen within the dish. Instead of strip steaks that were ordered, the waitress didn't bother to distinguish the patrons that ordered filet mignon versus strip steak, and brought out filets for all (a big price difference). Oh, and they were all cooked to one consistency...so why bother asking how you want it cooked? They forgot to take people's orders. They forgot to put all of the orders in to the kitchen, so half of the large group didn't have food for a good 20 minutes while everyone else¿s' food was getting cold. They brought out dishes that people did not order. Food was not prepared properly. And the only dish that came out on time was the beef burger. I'm sorry to be writing all of this, but as a place that supposedly has a good reputation no manager/owner ever stopped by to make sure everything was okay or to manage the food situation, especially when the place only seats about 60 people (both upstairs and downstairs). Service was bad, food was bad, and it¿s really unfortunate, because we all had great hopes about our dining experience there.”

  • Like the food the atmosphere is over done.
  • For food this pricey the waiter could lose the levis and sneakers.

“Bad Food. Rude Service.

If you want to go a pretentious restaurant where waiters feel they are too good to serve you because they auditioned for a play last week, then this trying too hard to be hip restaurant is your kind of place.

The food is over spiced. When the waiter asked how everything was, we voiced our displeasure and he dismissed us as if our unsophisticated palates were the problem.

At the end of the night he told us that the 10% tip we left on the credit card slip was too low. When we again informed him that we didn't like our meals he said, well don't come back here.
