Belle Roux2801 Leavenworth St, (at the corner of Beach Street), San Francisco, CATel: (415) 771-5225 This place does a nice job of capturing what it is like to dine in a New Orleans courtyard. Of course, here the patio has to be heated year round and those wisps you see curling around the red brick are fog, not Spanish Moss. Still, there is a feeling of languid humidity in the air mingling with the aroma of Creole cuisine emanating from the kitchen. The Sausage Jamalaya though, (with sausage that is imported from Louisiana), is outstanding as is the Red Beans and Rice, made with the same sausage. The other house specials such as Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Etouffee and the catfish grilled, not blackened, is toothsome with its own ersatz charm. The service is absolutely authentic, though, in its southern hospitality to the tourists that flock here.
