• Food is generous, nicely prepared.
• Terrible service for women dining alone.

“The food is fine and very generous, and service has been adequate when Ive been in a group of 3 or 4. But Ive eaten here twice recently by myself, and I was brutally ignored both times. This appears to be because Im a woman; men on their own who weren't regulars were treated decently while regulars were fussed over. I understand catering to regulars; I was hoping to become one, myself. (Matthews is near my home, and I like eating at a diner sometimes while I work on proofreading projects.) Both times, I made sure not to go when it was busy, didn't make excessive demands, and tipped 20 pct. Despite the way I was treated, in hopes of winning some respect. But it didn't work, so never again.”
