“We went to Cafe Zao before a show and had plenty of time. We first ordered the trio of cake for appetizer, which was a small portion but good. I then ordered the filet mignon (about $30). Once our dinners arrived they looked wonderful, I cut into my steak and all I could taste was burnt. I looked and the filet was black on the top and the bottom and had a burned taste throughout. I had a total of 3 bites just to see if I could stand it. I never send items back but I couldn't even enjoy my dinner it was so burnt. So the waiter finally came over and I explained that the steak was burned. He took it back and had the chef redo the order. I was fine with all the above as I know things happen. The next part is what was so rude and not excepted when you are at a fine dinning restaurant. I received my new dinner about 10 min later and the filet was a about the size of a golf ball. I was stunned since the first filet I had gotten I was actually impressed with the size. The waiter then told me that the chef gave me a smaller portion since I had eaten the other steak. I only had 3 small bites of the steak I had sent back! I was so angry. There was no apology, no trying to make it right. Basically by sending me that steak was a slap in the face and the chef trying to tell me there was nothing wrong with the item I sent back. I bet he did not taste it! We will never go back.” 5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

“A really wonderful meal. Had one of the specials, which was Elysian Fields lamb roasted en route, with goat cheese pine nut stuffing, and finished with a cherry sauce. Fabulous!! The Cafe Zao salad is just lovely lots of great Vegas along with field greens, and a elusive-flavored dressing, which was light enough to let the vegetables shine through. My companion had the menu stuffed trout and pronounced it delicious. The homemade style bread is too good, hard to control diving into it. Loved the wine fleets; we tasted three wines for $10, about 3 oz each. Dessert was a lime tart with fruit, superb; my companion had reduced chocolate mousse, which was just too much. Very dense, delicious, but so rich should be shared by 3-4 people. Service was attentive but not hovering. ” 5 of 5 people found this review helpful.Popular Restraurants in PittsburghView all restaurants in Pittsburgh
