“What a disappointment! We went to special restaurant, Turkey dinner. Turkey was Ok. Not sure if it was roasted today or not. Mashed potatoes were instant and tasted watery. Dressing- was almost tasteless except for being too salty. Gravy definitely was not homemade-almost looked gelatinous. Green bean and cr. of mushroom casserole had a funny taste. I don't think it was a spice or anything-maybe the quality of ingredients used. Rolls were warm and good. Coconut cream pie was not what I hoped for. Cream filling didn't not have much taste. Certainly didn't have much coconut in it. Peanut butter choc cream pie was good. Salad bar wasn't much. Had head lettuce that looked a bit under the weather and the usual vegetables. - cukes, tomatoes, carrots, onions, cauliflower and broccoli. Homemade chicken noodle soup was ok. Prices were good but food wasn't.”

“Their road sign proudly displays an endorsement from KDKA TV. I hope the reporter and his crew ate somewhere else. We love diners and seek them out all over the country. Dean's was name I remembered from my past and we decided to stop. Seeing a full parking lot around noon was a good sign. As soon as we walked in I knew we should leave. We got a funny look from the elderly crew as being out of towners - but we are used to that. Scanning the room to get a good look at the food on the plates, I didn't see anything that looked appealing. It is almost worth a visit to see the last restaurant on earth where the servers wear white nurse uniforms. The server attentively stalked our table but when the food is boring and skimpy we had a tough time being enthusiastic. We held out hope that the vast pie menu would be a hit. No diner can produce that many different homemade pies in a day and Dean's doesn't either. Commercial pie shells filled with Canned Pie Glop covered in whipped topping is not pie. In short, Dean's has name recognition and location. If they only had food.”

“My husband ordered the special - Pot Pie for $6.95. What he got was a little Marie Callendar's Pot Pie straight from Sam's Club. Our waitress was not friendly and said we should expect the store-bought pie. That's a diner, she said. Huh? The inside of my fried chicken was cold. The dessert pies were homemade and were very good.”
