• Service was great.
• Food was horrid overall.

“Excited about finding a local eating establishment, we followed the sign on 29 to the Pig and Steak. The atmosphere is terrific! Service is great. The food, with the exception of their Mac n'Cheese, is unfit to eat. The barbecue tasted like it had been cooked over gas, with an overwhelming taste of fumes. Hush puppies were very undercooked and the greens were canned with a few pieces of fat thrown in.”

“While nothing compares to German food while living in Germany, this place feels almost like home! Excellent food, great atmosphere, good people, and great fun!”

• Ambience, staff and food are all excellent.

“This has long been my favorite restaurant. Anywhere! My wife and I have been going for years from the time when we lived on the East Coast and each time it has been fantastic. We previously the Bavarian chef as a splurge eating establishment when we would go on hikes in the Shenandoah's. We always felt strange going to such a nice restaurant after a long day's hike but the staff never looked down on us and was always friendly and welcoming. The prices are not the cheapest but you can't walk away hungry and the food and family style sides are top notch. My wife and I went last year, with our kids, after not visiting for quite some time and it did not change at all. It is now our kids favorite place as well and helped make our '07 Shenandoah experience.”

• Food serve.
• The price is somewhat high but worth it.

“Have never had a bad meal food is always very good save room for desert, but you can't it is all so good. They did charge for sharing, my husband was not able to eat big because of cancer treatment but would never tell the server, it was 33rd anniversary and he was going into the hospital the next day so could not take leftovers, oh well I still have that memory! It is a wonderful restaurant.”

• Not many toilets!

“Brilliant! We have been here twice as we have friends who live in Bright wood. The kids love it because it's so informal; we love it because it's a really welcoming place full of "local color". You'll see the Highway Patrol eating in here as well (just a warning if you've been bad). Food is down to earth, no frills but we love the atmosphere - true America.”
