Oasis Bar & Grill At Medina Lake
Jul 31, 2008 by Heather from Houston
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • The view, the bar outside and band on Saturday night.
  • Everything else!

“When we arrived the restaurant was 84 degrees inside. We know this because we saw the thermostat. When we informed the manager of the extreme heat she said that it was because the doors to the outside were constantly being opened. This has never been the case in any restaurant that I have ever been to or worked in and I thought this was a poor excuse. If this is the truth then either the AC units need to be changed to accommodate the need or the ceiling fans need to be turned to high. The waitress that we had was way too inexperienced to handle a 12 top. Also the meal was horrendous. It goes as follows: I had the Spinach salad. This consisted of a handful of bag spinach salad, a hand full of sliced mushrooms and a handful of croutons that most likely came from a box or bag. Missing the pecans and I had asked for no bacon. This cost $6.95. My husband and brother-in-law originally ordered the fish tacos. When their meals came out they looked inedible and asked for the manager. When she came over they told her that they would like the hamburger instead and she, with out hesitation said oh yeah, no problem. Obviously, she didn't like the look of them either. When we received the bill my husband and brother-in-law were charged for both meals. Tacos cost: $13.95 each. The hamburger basket, which was burned to a crisp cost: $9.95. My father in law had the Tossed salad which was so drenched in salad dressing that he couldn't finish it. The salad dressing was so thick that it made the salad itself soggy. It was also at room temp, not cold as a salad should be. The cost of another bagged salad: $5.95. My other brother in law had the Lobster Ravioli which consisted of a plate covered in sauce and 6 small ravioli on top. There was no pasta or salad or anything else. I would seriously doubt that the meat inside was real lobster. It also came out Luke warm. This cost: $15.95. My poor 2 1/2 year old son had the kids menu pizza. It came out and was a small frozen pizza that looked so bad that I didn't want to serve it to him but he was hungry and what choice did I have. The cheese wasn't even melted and you could totally tell it was frozen 10 minutes earlier. He was never offered a drink (good thing I always carry a back up) and was never offered the ice cream that came with the meal. Cost for kids meal: $5.95. Needless to say that everyone else, that I haven't mentioned choked down there meal but absolutely didn't enjoy it. We feel that we were severely over charged for a sub standard meal. It was that awful. The location of this restaurant is wonderful and the potential is there for a successful business. I would suggest that they make some immediate changes for this to be a possibility. My husband and a few family members are from out of town but my father and mother-in-law along with my sister and brother-in-law are locals. I doubt that any of us will come back to the restaurant and the word around town will not be favorable.”

Monas Taco House
Jan 17, 2008 by Crystal from Castroville
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Hot, fresh food, and friendly service.
  • The appearance on the outside could use some work. But hey what can you do.

“If your looking for good ole Homemade Tortillas, and fresh food, than this is the place to go, everything is made fresh to order as you go. In all the years that I have eaten there, I can honestly say it has never been a bad experience. Now the appearance on the outside could use a little work, but its like that saying "don't judge a book by its cover, that goes a long way. So if you are in the mood for an authentic homemade Taco this is the place to go. Mona's is by the best place for Tacos all the way around not just in Castroville.”

Oasis Bar & Grill At Medina Lake

  • View.
  • Food.

“This is a great place for a first date or an evening out with your love one. You can have a seat inches away from the water, sit up on the deck or be in the nice and cool indoors. First time visiting was with my husband. We sat on the lower level and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. 2nd time was with my 2 daughters who enjoyed playing in the small play area by the upper deck where I could keep an eye on them. We don't care much for the food though. There was nothing that my husband or I liked on the menu specially for the price, so we ordered some appetizers (not worth the price). 2nd visit I ordered a chicken burger which wasn't that good specially since they left the paper on the cheese so I lost my appetite. Basically this is a great place for drinks and hanging out with friends. last I heard they have a live band on weekends. They also have weddings on the premises which, again, very romantic, no garden though. The drive in/out is very curvy so keep your eyes on the road. We're going back tonight with my sister and her husband.”

La Normandie Restaurant

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The food, the service, and the Atmosphere.
  • Don't accept credit cards, but the due take checks.

“The food here was wonderful! Its food that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The service was unbelievable! Were are usually served by either Barbara or David. They make sure you feel at home and take care of your every need. I can't express how much I enjoy my visit every time. I have yet to have a bad encounter. The decor isn't like a typical restaurant, its more like a French village! ”
