- Good food, service, ambiance, value, and open late. All around solid.
- Can be busy, and some tables are a little close together.
“Puffer belly is the best restaurant in Kent. While it doesn't have much serious competition, the food is very good, the servers are friendly and proficient, and its location in a converted railroad building provides ambiance. The menu has variety, the dinner entries are mostly in the $10-$15 range (in early 2008), and it is one of the few restaurants in Kent open late. In the summer you can combine a meal there with a stroll along the water. If you're dining at one restaurant in Kent, make it Puffer belly.”

Henry Wahner's Restaurant

- The company with which I dined.
- Everything else.
“In a word. Awful. We decided on this restaurant based on a recommendation of a friend. We were celebrating my father in law's birthday and as steak is his favorite, we chose Henry Wahner's. We were forewarned about the need for cash on hand what an inconvenience in this day and age. The first thing I noticed as I walked through the door of this converted "red barn" was a stench of stale water/mildew. Not an appetizing aroma to say the least. Beyond this, the decor is early '60s. It's like stepping back in time through a dirty time machine. The carpets were thread bare and filthy; the table settings were dirty, and mismatched. I'm thinking, "the food must be awesome to garner a good reputation with all it has going against it so far. " my husband and I order a filet, and Orange Roughy to split for our own Surf n Turf along with whipped potatoes. The filet had a livery taste; the Orange Roughy (normally a mild fish) was as fishy as wild cat fish with a gummy texture. The whipped potatoes were flavorless, and very lumpy. Although I didn't care for the meal, nor did my husband, the many flies which accompanied us seemed to enjoy it. The one good thing was the portions of meat I could feed my family of five on one slice of prime rib. The problem is, a lot of a bad thing is still bad!”

- The steaks.
- Price, atmosphere, food, service.
“Henry's has a great reputation in the Greater Akron area so my wife and I decided to go there for our wedding anniversary. As soon as we walked in we both commented on the condition of the restaurant. The carpets were worn, the tables are far too small and packed too close together, the walls need work and on and on. The overall condition is very poor. They are famous for their steaks so my kids and I ordered those and my wife chose fish. One of the side choices was a beet salad and that is what I asked for. What I got was a bowl full of canned beets. I asked for a vegetable side and got over steamed mushy broccoli. The steaks were absolutely fantastic as expected. They were all perfectly cooked and delicious. When I received the bill I handed the waitress my credit card and she informed me that they don't take credit cards because it is a small family business and can't afford the fees. My bill for all four of us was $146.00. Very pricey. Accepting credit cards provides a convenience and safety to customers. Who carries that much cash these days? Raise your prices accordingly and make the customers pay for the convenience. Luckily we had our checkbook with us. Except for the steaks Henry's was a huge disappointment. Price, atmosphere, food and service well below what good restaurants provide.”
