Hofbrauhaus
Mar 21, 2007 by Scott from Dover, DE
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Food was outstanding!
  • There was nothing I disliked, other than it being so far from my home!

“I'm not sure I went to the same place as Thomas from Delaware. I travel for a living, and visit Germany on a regular basis. I totally enjoyed my visit, and will drive the 193 miles there just to eat again. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was authentic. What more could you want? Sure, the place is old, but I believe it was opened in the 1950's. It has old world charm in a time when all people want is flash.”

Hofbrauhaus
Sep 24, 2006 by Thomas from Delaware
Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Diversified German and American offerings. Excellent beer selection. If the facility were fresh and clean, wait staff pleasant and food given more care as classic German dishes, the pricing is well within a rating range of "high value for the money."
  • Unclean facility, poor food, unpleasant wait staff

“German specialty food was mediocre and bland at best when compared with other German restaurants both in the USA and Germany over 36 years of experience. Service was course with what appeared to be an impatient waitress even though it was mid-afternoon and we were the only customers in our dining room area. The impression we received from the waitress was not relaxing and left an impression of, "this would be a great job if it weren't for the customers!" The facility, inside and out, was well worn, tired, in need of a good cleaning and paint. A few pieces of flatware had baked on food from previous use requiring opening four flatware settings to get two complete clean settings. Unless all of the above areas for improvement are addressed, we would absolutely not eat at the Hofbrauhaus again. Current comment as of September 2006. Have visited this restaurant a number of years ago and enjoyed that visit in the 1990's.”

Hofbrauhaus
Jun 15, 2006 by Alfie from Lionville, PA
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • It has the look, feel and taste of a great German restaurant but with Central PA friendliness.
  • Sorry, I can't think of one bad thing about the Haufbrauhaus.

“The Haufsbrauhaus is the best German restaurant in Eastern Pennsylvania. Their food is authentic, delicious and plentiful. Located about 14 miles east of Gettysburg, PA on US Route 30, the restaurant is a little enclave of Germany. They make their own Bratwurst and Knackwurst. The most expensive thing on the menu is the Haufbrauhaus Special, which gives you a sample of four different kinds of meats (3 sausages and smoked pork chops) along with soup, salad, and your choice of German vegetables for about $15, I think. Most dishes are considerably less money. Add a great German beer and you've got a real feast for not a lot of cash. I've actually traveled 120 miles out of my way just to eat there. It's that good.”
