- I can't get beyond the chowder because it is so delicious!
- Nothing.
“My family and I lived in Corvallis, OR for many years and often traveled to Newport for Sunday lunch at the Chowder Bowl. We would fly our stunt kites in the morning and treat ourselves to a warm lunch afterwards. My daughter was not a chowder fan, but she (at 35) swears they make the best chili in the world. We always followed lunch with berry cobbler. It was the best! Last summer, on vacation, we again spent time in Newport. I told my husband before we got there, he would not have input into lunch - every day would be at the chowder bowl. We have another convert. We picked up two quarts of chowder to bring home and got another convert when our son-in-law also fell in love with their chowder. They need a restaurant here in Colorado - LOL!”

- Food is great.
- Lower dining room had slower service so we moved to upper. Much better.
“The hotel has best food in Newport. The decor is really well-done, and they have added outdoor seating. The food is fantastic! It is known for it clam chowder, which we really enjoyed. We recommend the fish tacos. They were amazing. We will eat here every time we are in Newport.”

- Bread pudding.
- I wish it was in Salem.
“Clam chowder on the Oregon coast has so many variations that it is hard to say what it should be like. Except it should be like the one at the Chowder Bowl. I would put it in the top 2 or 3 that I have ever had. The fish and chips are incredible. I am not sure what kind of fish it is exactly but it is perfectly cooked every time. It is so fresh it almost tastes like scallops at times. But the bread pudding is the reason to go there. I have been to New Orleans for some very good bread pudding in my life. They take bread pudding very serious in New Orleans. They are all in second place to the bread pudding at the Chowder Bowl. We drive about 70 miles for a meal here. You will not be disappointed.”

Shirley's On D Bay

- The food is out of this world fresh and delicious!
- You get way more than you can eat, so don't be afraid to Doggie bag the rest.
“This is a slow food restaurant. EVERYTHING is cooked from scratch! Shirley even sells her Oregon berry jams, salad dressings, crab cakes, batter mixes on her website. I had a mushroom/cheese/tomato omelets and oh, my God! It's huge and FRESH! Another time I had one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever eaten and homemade fries. Everything is HUGE and fresh, so even if the prices are 1-2 dollars more, you doggie bag half of everything. The breakfast biscuit with my omelets was about 4 inches in diameter and fluffy - great with her strawberry jam. I could eat that stuff by the spoonful! I also had crab cakes on my third visit. I had visitors and they insisted on going back to Shirley's for two days in a row. It's that good.”

- Atmosphere, great prices.
- None that I can think of.
“I have been eating at Mo's Restaurants in Depot Bay, Lincoln City and Otter Crest ever since I was a young in' (I'm 43 now). For me, it's more about the ambiance and the beautiful Oregon Coast atmosphere than anything else. I love clam chowder and Mo's serves it up well. Well worth trying. Keep your toes in the sand!”
