“Java Jazz is a great place for pretty much anyone who likes good food (wraps are unique and delicious), good locally roasted coffee, good service, free Wi-Fi, a deck in good weather. We go there at least twice a week - we are addicted!”

Tools Restrnt
Nov 23, 2008 by Alice from Delmar
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[4] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • When they get the order correct, the food is pretty good.
  • Slow service, rude servers and very rude owner, dirty, terrible coffee.

“My boyfriend and I dined at Tools this morning after having a reasonable experience last week. To be fair, the only redeeming quality of the previous experience was a pair of crudely palatable omelets served in just under 40 minutes. Still, the restaurant is walking distance from our house and neither of us got sick, so I consider that a net positive. However, this morning we were introduced to the owner, a short, thick man with thinning hair and an affinity for gold jewelry. We waited 5-10 minutes before even being greeted by a server, another 5 to get our 2 cups of coffee. As we waited for our food my boyfriend and I explored several topics of conversation, quite confident that we had exhausted each to the point of inane platitudes before continuing to the next. When our food finally arrived after about 30 minutes, my boyfriend dug in, as his order was direct from the menu without deviation. I had ordered an omelet directly from the menu as well, however, there was a selection of cheese and I had specified cheddar. The omelet I received had American cheese. After waiting 10 minutes for our waitress to make another appearance, I explained that the cheese was not American. She proceeded to argue with me that the cheddar that they use is white. I continued to explain that it did not taste like cheddar. She went off in a huff saying that she would go ask. 2 minutes later she comes back, says that the cook did not see that she had written cheddar and that they would make me a new one. She was back with my new omelet in less than 2 minutes. That tipped me off that something was not right. As I started to dig into the food I quickly realized that they had simply opened up the old omelet, tossed in a couple of pieces of cheddar, and possible microwave it for 30 seconds or so. I could not eat it. We got the attention of the owner and quickly told him what happened. He told us to wait and that he would find out what happened. He came back to the table about 2 minutes later saying "I'll tell you what happened" he went on to say that they omelet that was given to me the second time was made new for me (it obviously was not as it had both American & cheddar cheese), that it impossible to mix the cheeses as they are located in different spots in the kitchen, that he watched my new omelet being made, that they do not cut corners. At that point I was just so upset and embarrassed that I just wanted to leave. I told him we just wanted to pay the bill and leave. Hey yelled at us that he did not want us paying and to just go away. He stormed off to the kitchen. I still wanted to pay for my boyfriend's omelet and the coffee I drank as well as the toast that I did eat. After 5 minutes of waiting for someone, anyone, to come out and take our money, we left. We will never go there again and highly recommend that nobody else go there.”

Tools Restrnt
Nov 1, 2008 by Kathy from Albany
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Rude owner, smoked fill back dining room (Illegal in NYS) and horrendous service.

“We went today after good experiences in the past. We used to go after hockey games and had not been there in over 4 years so after today's game my whole family decided to get a late lunch. After ordering and waiting over 40 minutes, my family of seven left after being insulted by the owner. We were there at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday and with me, my husband and our five children we more than doubled the occupancy of the place. The owner told me when my 2 year old son was crying and I quote, "May be he just doesn't like you." Then when the children were cranky after no food had come after 40 minutes of waiting, and I asked how long it would be until we got our food, I was told, "You'll get your food when I give it to you!" Diners that were just seated were appalled. When we were leaving the restaurant, I offered to pay for the drinks served and the one salad that my husband ate (Yes four of us were supposed to get salads, but only one was served!). The owner threw my money at me and told me I needed to lower my voice that I was bothering the paying customers. I guess he was upset that the back room that he and a friend were sitting and having lunch and smoking in had to be used. Never again! I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant and I strongly suggest never going there!”
