- The best crab cakes ever!
- Wish they where open more often in winter.
“I am in the food service industry. It has a reputation for quality food and freshness as well as homemade. I love the homemade soup in the cafe. The chef in the dining room will accommodate special orders as well as his own fabulous creations. I have read your 2 bad reviews which are the same person. Its a shame someone makes special request of the chef and then when their party comes for dinner they don't order what the Chef went out of his way to order fresh for them. Then weeks later makes the same request is denied and bitter! We Love the food as well as the staff! You don't last in Margate if you don't have both!”

- Great food while it lasted.
- Chef and service are awful.
“This review applies to the upstairs dining room part of the restaurant (it has a casual downstairs bar area and outside deck area too). My family and I are locals who visit this restaurant at least once a week, all year long for the past 6 years - we are there in the winters when we are many times the only table in the place! We used to call this our favorite restaurant because we were treated like family by all of the staff for being so loyal - my parents had even gone to the Ventura's restaurant in Berlin, NJ (related to this one) for over 25 years! However, we will never set foot in this restaurant again after the way we were recently treated. We had made a special request ahead of time for a particular seafood item to be ordered with the other weekly seafood items when the chef placed his order for the weeks fresh fish as usual, and after a few phone calls to the friendly hostess/manager, it was accommodated, but with an attitude and vulgar language from the chef. The next week, we requested the same item to be ordered in advance of dining there, and it was once again accommodated, but in the middle of our dinner, the chef stormed over to our table and screamed at us that he was in charge of the kitchen, that patrons come there for him, that he decides what food is served, and to stop harassing his employees for special requests. We were so disgusted that he made a scene at our table in front of the entire restaurant that we just got up a left without even finishing dinner, and we will never patronize this establishment again. I am writing this review to make any tourists aware that this crazy person is the chef cooking your food, and while we've had some great meals there for the past several years, it is not worth being ridiculed and screamed at in a fine dining establishment by a psycho chef (or any other staff member), and I certainly wouldn't want to eat food cooked under his direction ever again! We have lots of other fine restaurants where the owners and staff treat us with the respect and kindness we deserve for being the locals that keep them in business long after the beachgoers have gone home after summer and the bleak winter sets in. There are many other great restaurants (where both food and service are great) in a 15-minute radius that are much better than this place, just ask the locals. And by the way, the food and drink on the deck bar is frozen food quality and overpriced, and the drinks are just as overpriced and watered down, and the downstairs bar is a claustrophobic low-ceiling dive bar with the same overpriced food. The dining room was the only part of the restaurant worth going to, that is until now after 6 years when we find out what kind of person is running the kitchen! Save your money for a good drink, satisfying meal, and top-notch service for one of the many other deserving fine restaurants in the area- my family and I eat out at fine dining restaurants 2-3 times/week and know what great food/service is (we often drive over an hour to some of our favorite restaurants away from the shore too), so I cannot express enough how honest this review is and how we honestly will never go back to this place after such a negative experience. At least we won't miss it too long since we've already heard from numerous local sources that the property will likely be sold to become condos in a few years or less anyway usually around the time when the service gives out and things like this happen.”

- I was starved and thirsty. They took care of that.
- Better to poop your pants then enter the restrooms!
“We decided we were hungry for lunch. Just decided we would like drinks. The beer was good and cold. My friends drink was quite strong. The girl that served us was nice, but seemed like she was new. She did her best. The food was quite tasty. It is a bit of a rough, local crowd. Don't bring your kids! British tourists get stabbed in the heart! Don't try and break up a fight. The toilets are the most disgusting in the world! If I was the owner, I would leave town.”
