Bicycle Club The
Dec 10, 2008 by Sarah from Wayne
Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[6] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Still close to my job.
  • Pricey, snobby, charm of original Bicycle Club is gone.

“Went on opening night, 12-10-08. The first night they were open after changing hands and remodeling. There's no longer a jukebox. Probably will be no karaoke. The place definitely looks renovated, but strange. It's as if the proportions are all off. The interior is a bit more open and the coziness is gone. It's a more upscale environment, which Englewood Cliffs did not need more of. Enough already. The town needs a comfortable, cozy place to have a burger and watch the game. Or to congregate after work. Not another silly bar full of botoxed posers. It needed a cozy, rustic bar. Just a nicer one than the original Bicycle Club. This doesn't fit that bill. It's a strange collision of Bicycle Club remnants with trendy, upscale decor, and it's just weird. Food is in line with the Assembly, unfortunately, which is practically next-door and is an overpriced restaurant serving mediocre food and offering less than mediocre service. The owner stopped by after numerous wait staff asked us if we were ready to pay our tab, at our table which was not in the dining room, but in the bar area. He offered to buy a drink and then proceeded to buy only 1 of the 2 of us a drink, forgot the rest of the table and we never saw him again. As he darted off we asked him his name. My friends and I work nearby and used to give the Bicycle Club a ton of business and would like to start doing so again, so we wanted to introduce ourselves and wish him luck. He apparently didn't find it important. We never saw the guy again, even though the place had all but emptied out at that point. Granted, it was opening night, and frenzied. We'll give it another chance.”

Assembly Steakhouse
Aug 7, 2008 by Jade
Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[5] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Outdoor patio, live music.
  • Totally overpriced, terrible service, mediocre food.

“I've been to the Assembly about six times; once we sat inside in the dining room and the other five times outside on the patio. Service in the dining room was good, but the food was mediocre for the prices. Definitely nothing special outside on the patio, we've had consistently terrible service. I've been there with 2 people and 20- and either way, you can never find a waiter/waitress. Food is average. and for the prices, it should be better than average. The free appetizers at "happy hour" are greasy and bland, and I suspect, just frozen hors d'oeuvres thrown in a deep fryer at a 500% markup.”
