Rickshaws Fine Asian Bistro
Apr 15, 2008 by Jason from Reno
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Clean, good value, skillful sushi prep.
  • Nothing. My #1 place in town.

“One of the better places in Reno for sushi. Seems like there are hundreds in town. Menu has all the standards, including Godzilla rolls, rainbow, etc. Some rolls are house specials, and all are very good. Nothing especially authentically Japanese, but the overall value and quality much better than others in town (especially better than Sushi Club). Tell the chef what you like, and custom rolls will quickly appear. Everything fresh and high turnover, which is always a plus when dealing with seafood. In town, Sushi Moto in South Reno is also an excellent second choice.”

Pegs Glorified Ham & Eggs
Apr 14, 2008 by Elsie
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Liked food, service, atmosphere. Very warm and inviting.
  • Didn't like how busy it always is. That's what you get for a great place though.

“I love this restaurant! My husband and I love to eat here whenever we get a chance! I wouldn't consider it romantic per say just because we usually eat breakfast there and it's hard to make breakfast romantic to me but we love to go on weekends and the service is fantastic! Great little place to just drop in and eat. Food is amazing and it really has a small diner feel to it which is nice and cozy. Wonderful!”

La Vecchia Italian Restaurant
Apr 6, 2008 by Food Luver from Erie, Pennsylvania
Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[3] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • The service staff was amazing.
  • The owner/management a major disappointment.

“When traveling through Reno I was greeted by a wonderful service staff at La Vecchia Restaurant. As a food lover, former food review columnist, and food and beverage director for an upscale resort, I am blessed, yet sometimes burdened, with a quick eye for how a staff operates. The hostess, servers, and buzzers were pleasant and refined despite the chaotic and clearly understaffed environment. The first thing that overwhelmed me was the motorcyclists at the bar. The unsettling scent of motor oil from their hands and clothing lingered in the air, taking away from the aroma of the food. Although they were seemingly out of place, I quickly noticed the Ducati memorabilia lining the bar walls, and deduced that there was some kind of connection. Later, while eating my meal at the bar (overcooked spinach ravioli with an uncreative butter sauce) the lovely young woman helping me came to check on my progress. As we were enjoying our conversation, we were rudely interrupted by a rather large woman dressed in what appeared to be, Pajamas! The woman made her way abruptly behind the bar and loudly, devoid of any tact, began spouting off closing duties while I was discussing my dish with my server. I gave her a peculiar look and she waddled off rolling her eyes! I was astonished. I inquired as to her role and after desperately trying to maintain professionalism and avoid embarrassment my server said, "She is our new pastry chef, but is involved with our service staff, too". I can't imagine how this woman's "involvement with the service staff" could do anything but hinder the teamwork and sabotage a seemingly lovely staff. I was, to say the very least, appalled by her unprofessional appearance and careless, obtrusive demeanor. The server apologized profusely and tried to protect the integrity of the woman. While I appreciated this attempt and her professionalism, there wasn't much that could be said to rid of the awful taste that was left in my mouth by the woman and by the food. Then, just as I thought my dining experience couldn't worsen, it did. I encountered the owner. I spotted him making his way through the dining room, certain that he would approach me during his rounds. Much to my dismay he passed me by, going straight to the motorcyclists at the other end of the bar. By this time I was fed up. I watched him interact with his group of motorcycle enthusiasts and was left to feel neglected by the management and that my patronage was clearly unimportant. With a restaurant this size, a new face sitting alone at the bar should be recognized. I quickly asked my server for the check, while the buzzer, with his kind smile, promptly cleared my place a presented a dessert menu. In an attempt to salvage what was left of a mostly disappointing dining experience, my server casually motioned to get the attention of the short, stocky, Italian owner. Not to my surprise, he neglected to take notice. I was thanked repeatedly by my server and I reassured her that no negative aspect of my experience was her fault or the fault of the service staff. I expressed that they all did a lovely job as I was greeted and thanked on my way out the door by the hostess. In my professional opinion, the service staff needs rescuing from the black hole that is La Vecchia. It's as if they are innocent, hardworking individuals stuck in a bad dream, and as indicated by the unprofessional conduct of the owner and pastry chef, La Vecchia is undoubtedly their bad dream that will rapidly manifest into a nightmare if they don't escape!”

Archies Famous Grill
Mar 4, 2008 by Karen from Reno
Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Great Food, Great Service.
  • Music too loud in the morning.

“We love Archie's, especially for breakfast. The only complaint is the music at 8 to 10 am should be softer or not as loud. We usually end up asking them to turn the music down but within 10 to 15 minutes its back blaring again. It's impossible to carry on a conversation. I have heard others ask that the music be turned down also, so I know it's not just us. We have bypassed going there a few times for this reason.”

West Second Street Bar
Feb 19, 2008 by james from sparks
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing!
  • Dangerous place. Felt very unsafe. Don't get too drunk and watch your butt for the bouncers!

“This is a very scary hole in the wall bar. Every time that we go there, it ends up with fights inside with the personal/bouncers acting as if they were "roadhouse" people. The bouncer were drinking. Not a safe place for locals or tourist!”
