Manee Thai
Jun 29, 2007 by Tracy from Kirkwood
Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[9] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great, fresh food, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere.
  • Not very private, bad, inconsistent service.

“I have eaten at this restaurant at least 6 times and since the food is great, I keep coming back but the service is NOT good. There are problems every time I go. The time before last, two couples went and they mixed up the orders, forgot 1/2 of the items ordered then the male server argued with our friends husband and blamed him as though he mis-spoke his order (to save face). Then the other day, we got okay service but the table next to us was infuriated over the ridiculous wait to order food. They sat there endlessly with no service. I thought that they were going to walk out. The restaurant was not full. As soon as the meal was over, they slapped the check down on the table with our filled Togo boxes and never asked if we wanted dessert or anything else, not for probably 1/2 hour. They really need to work on their service-I am not a picky patron and am patient and kind to servers and their service stinks.”

Nippon Tei
May 11, 2007 by Rebecca from Manchester
Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great sushi.
  • Service can be slow.

“My husband and I regularly eat at Nippon Tei. The sushi is wonderful, and I would have to disagree with the other reviewers comment about the miso soup. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but the food is worth the wait. Great atmosphere and we have never had a problem with any of our bills.”

Nippon Tei

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Place.
  • Bad service, rude server, slow order, dull plates.

“Bad food and horrible service the food is really bad comparing to other local Japanese restaurants. The miss soup was so salty that we could impossibly finish it. The sushi was ok. The beef of the sukiyaki was as thick as a steak. The place looked nice but the food really ed. Only rookie eaters would think it's good. Not to forget mentioning the bad service of this place, the petite Asian server (a Thai man), who was indeed the manager, was rude and slow to respond (forgot my coke and never refilled). On my wife's birthday, we ordered many dishes, and the Asian server gave us a dish of sushi roll we didn't order, we didn't realize the presence of that extra dish, he later secretly charged us for it as he said we already ate it, and we had to pay for it. He didn't admit the fact that he sent us the wrong dish. He even said it's our mistake for not telling him we got the extra dish. In fact, we would have paid for it if he told us the truth but he didn't. We never reward liars. More ridicule, he added an 18% tips to our inflated bill, unlike other tables' bills. First, he was not quite willing to take the extra dish off from our bill until we told him we might not go back to the restaurant. Then, he lied again by saying every table had the tips calculated, again, which was a lie (we didn't take a peek at the neighbor table's bill). Finally, he took the tips out from the bill after we wasted 15 minutes arguing with him. Later, we paid the regular bill, headed out, and got into my car at the parking lot; he waved his hands, ran at us, and tried to throw some pennies at my car. He was even rude enough to swear at us. For a few bucks, this restaurant has forever lost two customers and their friends¿ businesses. How stupid was he? Time to go to other Japanese restaurants instead.”

Nicolettis Restaurant
Oct 28, 2006 by Anne from St. Louis
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Warm and relaxing neighborhood place. Good Italian food at a reasonable price.
  • Always busy on weekend nights. Make a reservation.

“This is a neighborhood Italian restaurant that's been in this strip mall for decades. These kinds of restaurants are all over this city, where the Italian tradition is strong and the Italian food is treasured. This isn't gourmet, but it's reliably delicious food at a reasonable price, in a relaxed and intimate setting. This is a restaurant that isn't "romantic", except that it feels full of love. That's because it's a place where families gather, sometimes for generations. My favorite thing on their menu is the tutta mare, which is always yummy. They also do a demon eggplant parmesan. Not really a business traveler's location because it's out in the suburbs, some distance from the business centers, interstates and airport. But it's the real Italian deal. Interestingly, across the street in another strip mall is an authentic Mexican restaurant< El Nepal, which is run by a family who came here from Mexico more than 15 years ago. It's been thriving for more than 10 years. For those who think the suburbs never have any personality, these restaurants give lie to that prejudice.”

Seventh Inn
Oct 28, 2006 by Anne from St. Louis
Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Pretty inside.
  • Horrible, horrible, horrible service. Way overpriced.

“This place is so impressed with its pretensions that it has forgotten about value and arrogant about service. When we went there we were immediately impressed with how pretty it is, but nothing after that can be described as good. The service was the worst I have ever experienced, and we eat out, including St. Louis' best restaurants not less than once a week. We waited 15 minutes to be handed a menu. When we asked the busman for menus he actually stated he wasn't allowed to give them to us! It took them more than two hours from the time we were handed a menu, to be served our entree. (No way was we ordering coffee or desert - we'd still be there!) Every part of the meal required an amazingly long wait. Get the menus, wait 22 minutes to give an order. Order, get your second cocktail, wait 28 minutes for first course - a wedge of iceberg with a dressing. We were not asked our preference. Then came a soup we also hadn't ordered, but it was welcome and tasty after another long wait. By now, of course, we are frustrated and starving. The bread basket was empty and our drinks were dry. No one asked if we would like another. No one asked much of anything because for long periods of time there was no service staff in the dining area at all. Next course was a sorbet which took 20 minutes to arrive! We hadn't ordered that either and were surprised to not be served our entree. We were now more than an hour and a half into this dinner and not happy. Neither were others in the place whose service was equally awful. Our entree's finally arrived 35 minutes after the sorbet. Mine was cold. ”
